I took my kids 25 yr old Scalextrics track out of the attic. It had been in our basement in a cold climate, our attic in a warmer climate. Our attic gets really warm. One lane wouldnt work. Unscrewed the terminal wire cover and one of the power lines to that unworking lane had come off. I resoldered the wire and it worked! Pretty sure somebody must have stepped on the track at some point. Took a while of cleaning the track and running cars to get it smoothly running. The boys came home for Christmas and were amazed.

Super childhood memories flooding back with Scalextric, it was an awesome part of my childhood. Definitely find myself reliving my childhood after getting back into it with my kids.

Indeed. I did HO as a kid. Found my old HO tackle box of cars. Setting up the Scalextrics brought all that back. My sons Fiancé heard the commotion and asked what was going on? I said, this is what we did before computers. lol. Yep, researching what to do next.

@@shiftintohigh5564 my plan to keep the kids in and keep them off the IPads is to let them build a scale world around the track as they love painting and making things. Another few weeks and I'll split the garage in 2 and build a scalextric / hobby room for them. The possibilities are endless.

Thanks for the share. Definitely interested in how to fix the car itself, not just change the braid, but trouble shooting the car not working. Thank you in advance.

    Hi
I have a car that works perfect with the rear axle out so the motor is good as soon as I fit the axle and wheels in its jumpy and stalling ? I cannot see any thing obvious and it spins fine by hand any ideas ?

Sorry for the very late response.
How's your track looking? I've had this issue before and it was a combination of track and car, start with the car, make sure the wires from the motor are making good connection to the braid plates, also install new braids. On to the track, start by cleaning the rails, i first vacuum off the whole track then use a small amount of autosol (metal polish) to clean the rails and after that I go over it with electronic cleaning spray and then finally a microfibre towel. Over time the rails get full of dirt, continuity is reduced causing connection issues and jumpy cars. If you're using the track a lot then regular cleaning is a must.
