    What I use to hold pots from tipping over is metal planter stands with legs flipped upside down… placing the pots inside the stand. The legs now become a sturdy support beam against the pots. Literally making them unmovable. This is visually more pleasing than staking, bricking or using other heavy objects. Otherwise invest in a heavy ceramic pot. Which is quite expensive.

    I’m scared of overwatering my maples now, so this meter would be helpful for me to learn!

      Watered mine yesterday, some dry some still wet, the meter takes the guesswork away. Best few £ I’ve spent 👍

    Another Great video Carl!👌🏻 we just had some frost last night in the netherlands.. and some maples are really drooping their leaves:-( is this something that will recover of are those leaves done for this season? My bloodgood has some drooping leaves, but luckily not all. But my laceleaf dissectum shows drooping leaves all over the tree… Im hoping they will recover, interested in your expererience. i cant imagine you putting all of your trees inside when frost is forecasted..

      We have been really lucky here in the the middle of the UK, no serious frosts at all this year. So they should regrow their leaves as they kind of have a second set available, although they might not be as strong. Adding a little fertiliser once the frosts are over can encourage new growth, which helps. Carl

      @@Japanesemaples should I add fertilizer even though I added fertilizer a couple of weeks ago when the spring started? And should I cut off the leaves that are damaged or just wait for them to fall of naturally? Cheers

    • @Japanesemaples
      @Japanesemaples  Před 4 měsíci

      @@ferrydejagher2033 if you have just added fertiliser that should be fine. I would leave the tree alone for a week or two and see what happens.

    -With smaller plants nurserymen go by weight of the pot as to whether to water or not.
    -As much as wind is a nuisance, it does send a message to the plant to strengthen its limbs.
    -Sad of character be he who doesn't stop to admire the spring colour of Mr. Jordan. I wish I could find the critter that is having a jaw on my Jordan. I guess if I were an insect, I'd choose that plant for a snack; can hardly blame it.

      I was speaking to an Acer grower a few days ago, who had a friend in retail that just potted trees up to make more money! Cheeky really selling a pot with hardly any root system!

      @@JapanesemaplesAs you stated in another video, when buying plants, always pull the pot and give the root system a thorough inspection.

    Hi, is it okay for bark to my touching the trunk? I see a lot of conflicting opinions and I'm not sure what to do, thanks.

    • @Japanesemaples
      @Japanesemaples  Před 4 měsíci

      I always try and leave a small gap and it’s certainly not a good idea to pile bark up against it. Carl
