@@dakotaj4150 The confidence level doesn't depend on the number of tests, it is a parameter that is selected to be 0.95 in this example. You can construct the 95% confidence Clopper-Pearson interval for any number of measurements, but they'll be useless if the sample size is small.

Man, hearing “stop using full choke on shotguns” feels like I just lost an old friend. Tough to swallow but nice to hear that I can spec more into handling and stop worrying so so much about maxing out the range bar. What an excellent video, I’m going to have to rewatch to pickup everything but that won’t be an issue with how well presented and organized this video is. Been an absolute treat to watch

Just remember that stats still operate in a vacuum with 0 confounding. On paper full choke does nothing... but when you account for latency, tick rates, engine constraints, and the rng compounding on top of that... yea full choke can still matter.

-> on April 21 Bungie announced a TWAB with some shotgun updates coming in the future. Fortunately, the changes don’t affect this video that much! All of the findings here remain accurate and useful, but a new video may be coming eventually regarding icarus on shotguns. Also, full choke and smoothbore remain poor choices. Besides that, you can continue to rely on this video for shotgun mechanics.
-> Well, a new season with the airborne changes are here, and that made spread shotguns even less reliable in air! Icarus is probably a great choice now. But you do you. As for range, you need about 10-20 more range this season to make up for the range nerf. More and more, it seems like getting cleanup kills is the way to go for spread shotguns.

Great style of transitions
Heads up, weird things start to happen when you stack past 100 handling. It sometimes causes it to bug out and actually end up slower, depending on what else you’re swapping to. Very noticeable when swapping to a sword with eager edge.
Really happy this is out, I’ve always primarily shotgunned as my special weapon of choice, and all the changes-alongside my general playing less because of how rough a ride 3.0 seems like it’ll be-mean I’m all ears to a vid like this
Just on the lookout for tweaks to adjust my play since it feels like one misstep with pellets anymore and you either die to a fusion or slug, or suffer a pellet spread so wide and random it looks like a sneeze and couldn’t deal more than 1/3 HP if it tried
imo I feel like the slide change was a miss now that they all have a way more punishing and universally similar range ceiling anyway
They’re more limited to a specific rather short range band, but if I slide to get myself within that narrow range, I get screwed for it? These changes were a one-or-the-other thing in my eyes, and I think the universal range ceiling lowering was the winning pick.

Please excuse me nerding out. I think this is instantly an all time great Destiny CZcams vid. As someone who’s currently taking economics in Uni, dealing with this short of thing can get mind numbing after a while, but dude this was entertaining and extremely informative through and through. You went above and beyond to source everything, and I’m sure you spent an unimaginable amount of time to put this all together. Hats off to you man! I’ll be sharing this w everyone in my clan and although this is the first video of yours I’ve watched I’ll definitely be subscribing for future content!
Some things I missed in this video I would have liked answered;
- By how much does Smoothbore widen the pellet spread? Is it just as little as Full Choke tightens it, therefore still making it a barrel to consider?
- Freehand grip is tossed up as ‘minimal upsides, not worth it.’ What does Hip Fire Grip do in-depth though?
- Is Slideshot a viable trait to ‘combat’ the slide nerf and is the range increase noticable?
- Is ‘Firmly Planted’ a viable trait to combat the slide nerf?
- Is the Adept Handeling mod better then Quick Access Sling?
I can only answer 1 thing, slideshot wouldn't do anything bc while sliding you nerf your pellet spread so the only thing that would help would be fullchoke (if any, this wasn't tested so it could be nothing)
if you slide youre probably barrels stuffing the opponent anyway so it doesnt matter
@@kawaii_kraken it definitely, DEFINITELY does matter. It happens very frequent that you will close the gap on an enemy with your shotgun by sliding, and your shotgun is within OHK range but it doesn’t kill due to the slide nerf (pellets missing where they would normally not bc of wider pellet spread during sliding)

@IvanFKaramazov - D2 would probably have to set up a macro to slide and shoot at the same distance consistently, maybe use a corner to line yourself up for the tests.
@IvanFKaramazov - D2 I’m in agreement with everyone else who replied. Sounds like a tough thing to test consistently to have the same degree of confidence in the results as the methods you guys used for this video. I don’t recall whether Bungie has said the magnitude of the effect full choke has on pellet spread, if they did we could extrapolate a bit.
Full choke is actually working against the slide spread penalty but not anywhere near countering it. Like gjerda says here, just take your shots standing if you can, it's way more consistent
@@nelsongodoy5101 well yes that’s what we already know. The question is how much? Is it enough to be noticeable? Being able to slide and have some decent consistency with your shotgun is something people might want to have as an option.

This video made me feel like a real caveman, I've been running a big range ragnhild with full choke this entire expansion and all this video did was make me realise I've been shotguning in the destiny stone age. I even removed Icarus for the first time. I am a changed guardian!

It was so hard to break the sliding habit on shottys. I still like the perk for the reloading portion but it's noticeable how much worse it is when trying to 1HKO.
Yeah there have been so many times I slide out and my shotgun blows them a kiss instead of killing them.

I have a few questions
1. does hipfire grip's accuracy boost only effect the center pellet or all of them?
2. how big is the accuracy cones per archetype? you specify they have different sizes but do you know the exact sizes?
3. how big exactly is the aim assist cone? you say the numbers but how exactly would someone visualize that?
some of these might have been mentioned in the video and flew over my head, sorry for that if so.
I also want to know about hip fire. i quite like it on my riiswalker but i do not own a non hipfire equivalent to see if its placebo. based on the aim assist cone range i suspect it really does next to nothing. However, hipfire does boost stability by 30 and according to this video it seems like it makes follow up shots wayy more consistent, effectively counteracting the negative stability from iron reach
1. Only the central pellet is affected by accuracy, all the others are generated around the location of the first.
2. Genuinely, no one knows exactly how big the cones are, though you can get an idea based on the accuracy stat.
3. Refer to 2. It's likely in degrees somewhere, but the gist is that you want more accuracy on any other weapon class other than spread shottys. They have high inherent accuracy, and little deviation, so it's not worth building towards it
THey follow the center pellet so it seems like it would, but he stated not much.
1. just center pellet
2. we don't but hope to have a better guess one day! great question.
3. it's a small cone in 3d space that shrinks and grows, and hard to visualize without animating, which is why I'm considering hiring someone to animate such a thing.

I watched your and Patty’s pellet shotgun tier list where it seemed like you guys were in agreement about full choke being the best barrel option above all others. Did the additional testing disprove this?
yeah, sorry for the confusion, Patty and I recorded that *before* Ivan and I discovered the full choke findings! I think full choke is not the play these days, but on thursdays twab or a future update, I'm guessing they''ll make it matter again.

A question about lightweights: Have you tested them with and without full choke too? I only see precision and aggressive in the video. I want to know if it's not important on them either, since people often have said that full choke is extra important on lightweights!
I’m pretty sure he touched on this, think he said that because lightweight shotguns already have the tightest spread of pellet shotguns, full choke is pointless. I’m no math wizard but I definitely go back to my old CQC shot gun as it feels more consistent than the full choke roll xur was giving out.

I feel like I have noticed some major inconsistencies without icarus grip and since I spend most of the time with a shotgun in the air I am really not sure if I should be using it or not.
I've used shottys with and without Icarus
It makes a big difference in concistency as far as i've noticed
So i went back to running it
I guess this is related to accuracy and its interaction with aim assist, as described in the video. With icarus, the accuracy in air is boosted, and because of higher accuracy, the center pellet is more likely to be aim-assisted and thus all pellets are pulled toward center of target's body.
Which makes icarus more consistent
It helps but not that much you may want to use it on a shotgun with base high handling like a lightweight but no for a found verdict there are just better options

amazing vid, was super confused when getting back into witch queen after a years break of destiny about what shotgun i should use and this video clarified everything.
respect the hustle with this video. methodology, research and explanations are incredible. thorough and pure objective views. not much of a shotgun guy myself but felt this was necessary viewing nonetheless.
I will never use a lightweight without full choke, it is not placebo these things feel way worse without it
It's not. Full choke is still a great barrel for consistency. The 7 meter test is to far to test lightweight shotguns.
And to counter that guy, minimum spread distribution will either make it useless past a certain point, or make it useless closer than a certain point and that the area where it's making a difference is so small that just having the statistical benefits of the other barrels will make more difference in more fights.
i have been on the run with my sons for over 7 months now. we have been operating under false identities, paying with cash, and finding food in the rivers. we have stopped at this no-tell motel to watch your video, "THE SHOTGUN GUIDE (Destiny 2)", and it has been so illuminating! i speak for myself and my sons when i say that this will change how we play the game going forward!
