    Just wanted to comment. I was using 2qts in about 7-800 miles after buying this thing used. Found your video. Performed the sea foam trick. It has used about 1/2 qt in about 1500miles. Much better. However, fuel is still mixing with oil. I only have 100k on a 2011. Selling this thing as soon as possible. I will never buy another GM product. Thanks for the help

      If gasoline is mixing with the oil, one suspect is the high pressure fuel pump. Changing that worked for our 2.4LUK.

    • @timhiller1029
      @timhiller1029 Před 5 měsíci +2

      High pressure fuel pump will allow gas into the oil, shaft seal leaks, replace high pressure line if you do the pump, it connects to the pump

  • @timhiller1029
    @timhiller1029 Před 3 měsíci +2

    Sounds like the P0 171 is a oxygen sensor or map sensor, from what I understand the high pressure fuel pump has O-rings on the shaft, and when they leak, it will inject gas into the engine, that little piece or a little cylinder you pulled out is called a followerand it supposedly rubs on the camshaft, I have been told those followers can go bad too, it is recommended when you replace the high-pressure fuel pump to not only replace the high-pressure hard pipe but the follower also, not sure if this helps, hopefully I had answered your questions properly. Thanks.

    Nicely done!! We have a 2013 Chevy Equinox with the one quart per fill up consumption. I confess, when you said you were going to put pistons and rings in it if it didn't work I was rooting for it not to work! Reason is, I thought if you did a video of it, it would be great to watch before I did mine. However, the sea foam looks like it solved the problem. I didn't do the fill the cylinder thing, instead added 5 ounces of the high mileage seafoam to the oil as described on their website. DIY Dave seems to have had some success with it. After 300 miles I'll let you know how it did.

Started the engine held my finger over the intake port that the PVC hose went on run it some shut it off and sprayed more in let it set about 5 minutes each time. Hooked back up the PVC hose and run it. Doesn't use any oil now. After 200 miles it is still on the full mark.

    Majority of our issues stemmed from fuel in the oil from a high pressure fuel pump and camshaft follower issue. It was still running and not throwing any codes but had a slight stumble on startup and fuel in the oil. I replaced the HPFP and follower and for good measure added seafoam and the oil usage has dropped considerably. The fuel in the oil seemed to be a contributing factor.

Found out that it had a random misfire. Plugs have been burning oil. Blow by is terrible. He wants to unload the car, I told him to give a couple of days with it, and I believe that he will like the results. Only has 127K miles on it. No need to check the cylinder leak down. Nope. the PCV was not plugged. An easy test for the PCV hole being blocked or not is at this link: czcams.com/video/knnQWAtp0ik/video.html . Much less oil. 1 quart down between oil changes. basically, I'm changing the oil when it needs a quart (at 4800 miles this time). I am also adding a 1/2 can if seafoam to the oil and driving 200 miles or so before the oil change to do more cleaning.

      PROCESS: → Fill spark plug holes with Seafoam → Create some movements to get Seafoam to creep in → Let it sit in there overnight to let Seafoam work its way down to the oil pan → Install spark plugs & all removed items → Change oil/oil filter → Start the engine & test drive it.

I don't think GM likes cars that go over 100K to be still on the road! Good thing I do my own work!

    @MicheluceRizzuto Před rokem

    I just did a leak down test today on a 2010 Equinox and I played hell to get the sweet spot for maximum pressure to build up. It's tricky to get the piston in the correct position but it's a limited window. I had my tech watch the gauges while I moved the crank with a long ratchet to where it had max pressure build up. My point is that it's a limited crank position where it's sealed all the way. How I determined the correct angle was to put 20 psi into a cylinder and just after the crank stopped pushing the ratchet down and it loosens up and then go approximately 30`-40` more and I found this to be the best crank angle for max pressure. My 2 cents. This engine is burning about a quart every 300-400 miles, but leak down with 100 psi was only at 94-95 psi., which is strange to me. I just had the head machined due to the timing chain breaking. It broke 3 rockers and bent 4 valves. So I know my top end is good. I put a product called Engine Restorer in the oil and I'm going to run it for about 200 miles and see if it lessens consumption. Even if it lessens, I'll do the Seafoam thing.

    • @ryanl6722
      @ryanl6722  Před rokem +2

      Ya, I did not do the after-treatment leak down test because it was such a pain. I figure, if it's the oil ring that's gummed up, the leak down won't show it if the 2 top rings are good. I'm now at 3500 miles from the Seafoam treatment and I'm down 1/3 of a quart. I change the oil every 5000 miles so at this rate I'll be down about 1/2 quart between oil changes and I'm very happy with that!

      @@ryanl6722 Apparently it's not that the oil rings get gummed up. They lose tension because of a terrible design. What's strange is that the exhaust isn't puffing blue. I remember seeing many Dodge Caravan's from the 80s and finding out that the ones with the Mitsubishi 2.6 were the ones that would smoke.
