  • We Loved Spanish Wells Bahamas!
My folks wanted to come visit us on the boat in the Bahamas so we thought Spanish Wells seemed liked a good place to visit with them. We spent about a month, perhaps more, at Spanish Wells. Again, we were also working for a good part of that time so while this seems like a long time, once you take out 5 days a week of working, it's wasn't really that long.
We decided against taking the boat to Harbour Island through the Devil's Backbone in fear of all we read online...in the end, after speaking with a bunch of fellow cruisers, it seems to be much less of a challenge than we read. Maybe next time.
We Loved Spanish Wells, but it is a little funky. Everybody is really nice...apparently, it's such a small tight-knit community that everybody knows everybody else and that crime is pretty much non-existent. The large grocery store, Spanish Wells Food Fair Limited, is very well stocked and you can find pretty much anything you need. But, like everything in the Bahamas, it can be very expensive as compared with the mainland USA.
Buddas Snack Shack, Wreckers, The Sandbar Bar & Grill and The Shipyard didn't disappoint.
    Thank you for watching.

I’ve got about 4 or 5 more videos to finish up last year and then will begin 2023/2024. Once we return in April, 2023 from Cupertino, we had some friends visit us and we headed further south in the Exumas. It wasn’t long before we needed to start make our way back up north to Virginia to store the boat for hurricane season. This year, we decided to do more of the Bahamas because frankly, with working and all, we really just didn’t get to explore as much as we wanted. We’re talking about the following year and possibly heading further south into the Caribbean…and perhaps not make the trip back north…but who knows

Enjoyed the video. Although it seems incredible, I visited Spanish Wells as a teenager in 1965 to learn how to scuba dive at a now-extinct resort called Lloyds. I loved Spanish Wells, but due to generations of inbreeding some of the residents were, well, a bit weird. Everyone is named Pinder. Like several islands in the Abacos, Spanish Wells was settled in the 1700's by pro-British Americans who fled the USA after the revolution. The island is quite prosperous and well-maintained.

Thanks so much for the details on Spanish Wells. I’m a little surprised by just how many people are interested in Spanish Wells. We made it back there again about 3 weeks ago and I’ll be creating an updated video on Spanish Wells. The people are so nice and it’s very beautiful there…it feels utopian to me. Thanks for watching!

What do you mean with funky?

Everybody we’ve come across is quite nice there. But, the history of how the island was founded and the fact that it is mostly Caucasian is very interesting for being in the Bahamas. I feels a little utopian-like there.
