  • i filmed this video with a HD hero with the Eye of mine corrective flat lens. I had the little camera riding shotgun on my sony HD unit, and thought it did a nice job.
    If you watch carefully, you will see walleye, perch, a steelhead, bass, muskie, a mudpuppy, emerald shiners and spot tail shiners, and gobies

    June, and within sight of Strawberry Island. We prefer that drift, and between the bridges on the Fort Erie side for filming Walleye, Bass and Musky. Fair amounts of fish and generally good vis. with interesting reefs and wrecks.

    Jim that's a great video. I had no idea the bottom looked like that. Wow tons of minnows and no shortage of Muskies. Good to see because someone told me they were on the decline. That mudpuppy seemed to be enjoying that current ride. Hope to see some more videos from you. Cheers.

    We take turns.There is someone up in the boat, keeping an eye on our float. We surface after a set amount of time, or low air, then the boat putts up to us and we climb in. It is easy diving once you learn how to work WITH the river. This was shot up by Rich. we were out there today too. Dove the morning, fished the afternoon, and biked the riverwalk from NT to Ontario st and back this evening. Enjoyed every minute of it.

    while we can get the occasional smallmouth to eat, muskies are just not that aggressive when it comes to eating.

    @pmc291 On the U.S. side, there is Isle View and Niawanda parks. This is a frequent drift made by many. The Discover Diving shop often has events on this stretch. I would recommend the Ontario side in the Area of Frenchman's Creek, however. The visibility is always better, some times dramatically, it is all parkway along there, and there are some nice fish, with a chance for an old bottle or two.

    I believe that's a mudpuppy with gill issues. It could be a hellbender, as they are similar. Those Red October Monster tubes offer a reasonable representation of a dying adult goby, a bullhead, or a hellbender/ mudpuppy.

    I did, but it's been a few years. We dove Navy. I saw a few bass, nothing special that day. I remember when the waters around the Island held some big Muskies. Back in the Early 90's

    @zyxwfish They are actually the toughest fish to film. They spook very easily. Check carp and sturgeon on my channel, there are a few in that one.

  • @jimkinner
    @jimkinner  Před 13 lety

    @trappage: I'm not quite sure. Was concentrating on getting the shot, but between 12-20 feet, as this is the common range of depth on this dive.

  • @Dingleberry69973
    @Dingleberry69973 Před 8 lety

    I was told it's illegal to dive there. Because the turbulence from the falls would push you straight down to the bottom

    • @jimkinner
      @jimkinner  Před 8 lety +1

      There is a keep out zone that starts about a half mile north of Grand Island, and the river is too dangerous to dive again until about a half mile downstream of the Lewiston, Queenston Bridge. As far as I know, that is the only restricted area.

  • @jimkinner
    @jimkinner  Před 11 lety

    it's shallow diving, 25 feet deep,or less.

      Thanks! Found a bunch at freemusicarchive.org/music/Kevin_MacLeod/ Do you do group dives? I was thinking about getting back into diving a while ago but didn't get around to it, your video piqued my interest again. I was thinking about trying to do a dive through Dan's Dive Shop... Is there a group you'd recommend? (id need to rent gear, but am PADI certified) dansdiveshop.ca/ Thanks again!

    • @jimkinner
      @jimkinner  Před 7 lety

      Unless I am on vacation, and going out on a charter, i usually avoid group dives. You just don't see the fish life when so many people are in the water, and exploring a shipwreck with just one other diver has a completely different feel. I'd suggest you take a pool session with a shop to get re-aquainted, and do an open water dive with them. If it turns out to be something you want to do more of, I would suggest checking out the Niagara Divers association, and, or the Fort Erie underwater recovery unit and scuba club. Before you buy anything from a shop, Check E-Bay and Craigslist, along with online shops like Leisure Pro. Lots of guys buy 2 k worth of gear, get out a few times, and then it sits in the cellar until the wife wants it gone.

    • @jimkinner
      @jimkinner  Před 10 lety

      Upper Niagara river. I don't get too specific. It's not fair to the fish, or the people that suggest good spots.
