  • Stained Glass is a wonderful hobby. What deterred me for a long time was the unusually high cost of the grinding machines. I decided to make one and pursue this hobby.
The start point is to find the right motor. This video describes how I made this grinder machine.
    Hope you like the video.

Excellent Video, thank you very much. Very well presented, so professionally done. I think I'll have a go at this myself. As you say, the motor seems to be key. I'll probably keep the power supply outside of the box as I try and keep mains voltage and water far apart.

I used a polulu 12v 5.5 A electric motor. They come with different gearboxes. I chose for a motor with a 30:1 ratio. The rpm is relatively low (330 rpm) but I connected the motor to the shaft that holds the grinder head via a belt. I attached a large gear on the motor shaft and connected it with a belt to a smaller gear on the shaft that holds the grinder head. This resulted in about 1000 - 1200 rpm with is fast enough. You can also choose a motor with 6.3:1 gearbox if you want to put the grinder head directly on the motor. The motor is strong enough in my experience, just make sure you have a 12v 5 A power supply. Most standard power supplies for laptops for example just go to 2 or 3 A. It took me some time to find the right parts (i'm just a hobbyist) so if I can give you some tips let me know!
