Thanks Corin for this wonderful instruction. I‘m the guy who visited your shop last Monday. Hope to visit you again next year. Regards from the south of Germany.

You know I think a lot of people like this kind of project because most people can’t afford to buy. I only work with nursery stock, trees from the wild, or the bargain dead rack I often find good stuff I can bring back to life. Plus there is more to learn from that sort of video. Most people can’t pay the price of a finished piece. Let alone ones like you have in you collection, and there is nothing wrong with you owning your collection. You’re at the top of your game in you’re field, and easy to listen to. But a lot of us could only wish to work on some of the trees you have in your collection.

I love watching these videos and the tips he gives in other videos. One of the reasons I've ordered 2 trees from Greenwood just yesterday.

A great follow up video Corin and a really good explanation of the 'Nursery Stock' and 'Pre Bonsai' terms, thanks for sharing.

I'd take that thick root off now, because in late summer - early autumn they produce a lot of root, and the tree would be able to compensate for the loss. But I may be wrong, of course

Nice and interesting video; again...! Personally, I would almost certainly leave that root above the surface: it looks rather nice. Looking at the tree from a certain distance, it seems to "give some extra support" to the heaviest part of the tree that is "leaning over" it: I hope you understand what I mean. Nice balance, in my opinion. Anyway: thanks for sharing again.

A question came to mind at the ending. Is it possible to cut and graft the upright root back into itself. Would be interesting as an experiment.
Thanks for the vid though. Thought provoking.

Saw the date you first trimmed that juniper was in April. Was wondering if you had used the new substrate on it? Or, did you start the experimentation with new substrate in April, 2023?
