Passengers Stuck on Cruise Ship Because of Fungal Growth

- The Viking Orion cruise ship was prevented from docking Down Under due to fungal growth on the ship’s hull. It was supposed to visit cities like Melbourne and Christchurch, but instead the Orion’s 930 passengers were stuck onboard. According to a statement from Australia's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, this was done "To protect the marine ecosystems within Australian waters.” Inside Edition Digital has more.
Good job to those authorities who detected the fungal growth. Imagine the disaster that could have happened if something foreign were to come in and wipe out other species not prepared for such an invasion.
Right
Na
@@Pack_Watch sorry no one cares about your 300$
Is this an analogy for the us Mexico border crisis or?
Imagine the disaster that would happen if we polluted the air to the point of no return. Always funny to see governments prioritizing the small issues.
I feel bad for the people, but we have to save all ecosystems, so this was the right thing to do.
Why feel bad, they’re still privileged and on a nice ass boat.
@@hctib_ fr😂
@@hctib_ That cruise is not even that expensive.
Refunds. NOW!!!
@@hctib_ privileged? Get a job, work hard, and you too can also experience a “nice ass boat.”
There’s definitely worse places to get trapped consider it a required vacation
Right
I personally wouldn’t mind being trapped on a luxurious cruise ship.
Its crazy how much people committed $uicide During that 2 month cruise ship lockdowns when covid started.
True
@@agentone8511 absolutely. They shouldve never been forced back then to quarantine that was rediculous
@@flameepidemic4839 COVID’s coming back and it’s worse
It's on my bucket list 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What’s the worst thing about being stuck on a luxurious cruise ship? They’re fine but this was the right choice to keep the ecosystems safe thank you for making this choice. 💙
They didn't say they were not fine. They said they were disappointed. There's a difference.
@@maplenerd22 When did I specifically indicate that they reported feeling not fine? I did suggest that they would be fine because being stuck on a luxurious cruise ship is hardly the worst thing that could happen to someone. I don't need you to explain anything to me, but if you don't want to appear stupid, you COULD improve your reading skills.
Good for them catching that! Better safe than sorry! The environment is so important.
Reminds me of a similar situation on the us Mexico border but with people instead, invasive fungus=catastrophic world crisis, illegal immigrant invasion= ehh whatever
I feel really bad for the passengers and the shipping company BUT this was an accident that was caught before it became a tragedy. Everyone did the right thing all the way around, it would be hard to blame the ship company and even though they did not get their day in port (s) they still got the cruse and and everyone should be glad for that
Who was responsible for making sure that the ship was cleaned in the 1st place? Blame them for not doing their job.
Unless it's the case of said fungal growth growing some time after the fact.
Fungus can grow even in the cleanest envoirment. Think of it as an invasive species.
"that's nasty" - Cleveland Brown
Shouldn’t the ship be checked and clean before allowing the ship to sail
That ship is gonna be loaded with clickers!
😂
Clickers?
@@andreasanchez1453 probably a reference of The Last Of Us game
5 clickers would be hell😊
Happy 15th anniversary to Julie Reby Waas and her spouse! ❤ I'm sure this may not be the anniversary you imagined, but it's memorable and you're together! Good on all the people involved, the inspectors, crew, boarding dock, and pro divers for clean up. 🤗👏
well maybe if these people understood the affects of invasive spiecies maybe they will understand just how serious this is, all it takes is one,
First off you’re trapped in luxury so don’t complain and number two you didn’t get to go shopping but our ecosystem got to stay and not die.
I think it was very worth it.
Why do I feel like this is some sort of reference to another game....
The Last of Us part 3: Ellie goes to New Zealand in a cruise ship 💀

Be glad the fungal growth is on the outside of the ship and not in one of the passengers cabins or on their feet.
Fungal infection. Not likely. Algae, most likely.
The ship has come from another part if the world, bring the growth from there.
When operating in AU and NZ waters, it is prudent to get a "Clean Hull Certificate" to ensure no extra costs.
Exactly why I won't go on a cruise, can become your prison way to easily
Yup. That covid mess sealed that for me.
Right
bro it rarely happens, i went on a cruise ship 3 times and did i get stuck on the ship? No. How much times have you heard of these stories
@@Agenteviee waaay to many.....not risking it. One story of a ship not being able to dock because of sickness.....is one to many in today's world

Rich people problems.
and this is why ive been seriously avoiding cruise ships. haters, its not about the money.
For real. After that quarantine mess ive decided im not really into cruises anymore. The fact they can pretty much do anything they want to prevent you from leaving is terrifying. Its not right at all to force people to stay somewhere against their will
You have to be suffering from HPD to apply such a nasty epithet to a story about cruise ships. Weird person.
Right
I mean I just came back from a cruise a few days ago. it was AMAZING. there’s nothing else like it.
u poor. that is ok
New Zealand & Australian bio security is no joke!!
Good on them for detecting it and protecting our waters !!
Resident Evil on a boat.
Oh no! Now you’re stuck on a luxury cruise ship. It must suck eating steak and lobster every night.
I’m so thankful they caught that, cleaned it up, and ultimately protected the ecosystems there! It’s a must!
Who's surprised when anything bad happens on a large cruise ship 😂😂😂
I’m sorry this happened but It’s another reason why I’m not jumping on a cruise ship
I like how they act like it was the worst experience ever 😂 ❤
isn't this how Covid started..?????
It's a good thing that fungus problem has been taken care of, and I know them missing out on visiting the cities is a major let-down, but at least they're not going through the nightmare experiences these southwest airlines passengers have been going through from late December 2022 to early January 2023.
Right
I don’t understand how they can be tired of it and keep their composure and kinda be in good spirits all at the same time it’s almost like arguing with yourself and not getting the results you want ‼️
"Either 'Shape Up' or 'Ship Out'"!
All about perspective. Is it annoying sure. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s not the worst things in the world to be stuck on a cruise ship. Basically a floating hotel. Ya you don’t get to see the city. But again, could have been worse 🤷🏻♂️
Right
Imagine if that was a Carnival cruise ship! What would have happened then? 😄
riots
The last of us prequel has amazing graphics
I thought that one of the passengers contacted some kind of fungal growth, not the ship lmao
Another ship in New Zealand experienced the same treatment. Christchurch NZ is deserving of pure waters.
I'm just glad everyone kept the cool and was safe overall
Hey, Extended cruise for them!
They must be so happy!
Especially in Aus bruh , protect em at all cost, its the most natural and beautiful place ive ever been
Gee I feel so sorry for them. I hate it when I drive by Melbourne but can't get out. My soul weeps.
I hope everyone is safe
Here come the people who think they’re edgy and say “oH tHiS iS wHY i wOuLd nEvER gO oN a cRuIsE”
It's crazy people still take boat cruises despite all the horror stories that plague the industry.
Oh no what a horror story, they got a few extra days on their luxury cruise, what a nightmare.

So...how do divers clean fungus off a hull in the water, without the fungus contaminating the Australian waterways??
It said in the video it had to be done outside Australian waters.
@@NessyPerth Yet…it’s still in their waters

My wife keeps wanting to go on a cruise. She can go without me.
Interviewed passenger said it was a NZ/AU issue. It was a cruise line issue.
that’s rubbish for the passangers not to land
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard ships have been going there for hundreds of years this is crazy
Passengers, stop complaining !!
GOD bless the crew/servants.
Sucks for the people on board, but good job to Australia protecting its ecosystem.
Imagine being stuck on something you choose to pay your money to spend a lot of time on!
Why does anyone go on cruise ships after all the nightmares we have heard about in the past few years???
You're a million dollar Cruise line you know the rules of every port and yet you don't take care of your ship to make sure you can make port yes I would say I would be tired of it too and the compensation had better be good to keep me from complaining 😂
Hence why you only go with well known brands from big corporations
I've always found cruises disgusting
Me to
Hope the passengers get compensated.
Its also the first tike hearing a cruise ship halted for fungal growth.
Why didnt they have the equipment to try to remove it if this was i assume an international cruise ship?
Long story short they had to scrub the Barnacles off their dinghy.....🤣
Should get a refund
This honestly sounded like a setup for a resident evil game for a second
If this was a Carnival cruise ship the passengers would be rioting 😂
With all the horror stories that come out of these cruise ships,.who wants to vacation this way?!
Thanks vidio sharing
Oh dang, that's messed up.
I don't know why they couldn't ferry the passengers to shore. When our Navy ships weren't allowed to dock in port, we would be ferried in.
First time in my life I ever heard the word biofoul. Even CZcams thinks it's a typo.
I dont feel too bad. They were on a cruise ship, not stranded. Its a problem that wasn't caused by any person. If you can afford a cruise, you can afford to stay on it. Be thankful the ship didnt sink like the titanic and only had fungal, not an entire hole ripped in it. You got to stay on the ship and not sink with it. Put it into perspective.
Ahh so this is how The Last of Us started
Joke: Why did the passenger stay on the cruise ship? Because he was a “fun guy!”
They renamed the ship to the Great fungal growth😂
I've been on that ship before. I can say I wouldn't mind being stuck there for a few more days.
You'd be better off taking your vacation in a petri dish rather than a cruise ship.
There is a fungal growth on my prostate
It’s the clickers starting
I could certainly thing of far worse places to be stuck at than a cruise ship.
13 Days at sea with 6.5 hours off the ship for $19,000.! and that’s one of the cheapest cabins.. Yes we were fed, had sheets and towels changed daily, but $19,000.?
Their was fungal growing in my basement i was living in, i was getting sick and didnt know what was causing it and now im due for surgery to remove the invasive fungal disease that attached to my sinus.

HELP WE'RE STUCK ON A SHIP DUE TO FUNGUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While I'm glad the ecosystems were preserved, to all the people saying "I wish I was stuck on a cruise", you should ask if you wanted to take a trip somewhere, would you like to spend your entire vacation in the hotel? Even if it's a nice one, the answer is probably no.
So did they detect it before they even set sail and chose to rip off the passengers? Or did they detect it while they were out in the middle of the ocean?
Trying to prevent a fungal infection down under. 💀
Modern Titanic, let's just hope that the Fungal Growth gets contained and they can be free, stay strong fellow passengers, god speed
Oh no. Now it’s the Last of Us.
Am I the only one who wouldn't mind to be stuck on a luxury cruise ship?
Yes it’s great if we didn’t pay $19,000 each for staying for 13 days on the sea with 6.5 hours ashore in all that time. Going nowhere for $19,000. It’s not so wonderful.
That's gross.....
Why can’t they just offload people onto other boats and go to shore
can't you shuttle passengers from the cruise ship to the Marina on the small boat like they do at St Martin?
This ain't good
