how can mil-dot master tell the bullet drop without knowing the cartridge ballistics, caliber, velocity, tempature, angle etc.
Forgot to mention: This thing is built like a tank... the one filmed in this tutorial video has over 10 years of stupidly ridiculous abuse on it - its still working - batteries never ran out - never failed.
+Jarred Long nope :-)
+TiborasaurusRex I just got the Windows updates on mine and it's better than ever.
+TiborasaurusRex thanks for all of the videos the religious ones too you are a great teacher this is a simple but valuable tool your videos never get old
You got a "Windows update" on a slide rule? Wow. Is the "update" automatic when you connect it to "Wi-Fi" or what?
I’ve had one for over 15 years and it’s so well built it’s just fantastic. Once you understand how to use it you are golden.
Thank you Rex! The biggest testimony for your personal convictions (be they religious or otherwise) is you sharing your knowledge...your experiences...this more than anything else hits home with me.
Your fulfilling your calling brother! Thank you!
THANKS Rex for this one, I have been waiting for a while for your review on this. I love this thing
Thanks for all of the videos
+ratled1Rex, the work is very appreciated.
Just got mine. Read the manual and now I'm watching your video again. For the third time!
I bought one of these over a decade ago...before all the digital gizmos......still use it......great tool!
I love my mil dot master. thanks for all you do
I wish I could like this vid twice. Thank you for the tutorial. I just ordered one of these. I can't wait to use it.
Thanks for all your work! Love the vid at the end, too!
Rex, you are the man for doing this vid. Thank you sir!
Thanks for the explanation Rex. Been looking forward to this one since the field kit vids. Had this basically figured out from the distractions... instructions. Problem is, I'm a "monkey see, monkey do" guy. Unlike my oldest boy who's a "monkey read, monkey do" type. Must get it from his mom. Just got my new USO ST-10 (per your recommendation) delivered and installed today. Shooting tomorrow. I can say, without question, you're the sole individual that's inspired and taught (relative) me to do this stuff. Appreciate you sharing.
thanks Rex for a awesome video. keep them coming.
I allways learn so much from your vedeo s .
Thank you. A mildot master has been on my list. Now I will make the purchase.
Awesome! When I get the notification of a new vid. I stop what I'm doing and watch!
Thank you so much I've been waiting for this video to come out.
This whole series is pure gold
Thanks for taking the "mystery" out of the MilDot Master. Great video.
Great and simple explanation! Thank you. I bought one and have had it for a while. I guess now, I should start using it!
Me too.
Rex great video you explained the Mil dot Master functions very good nice tutorial thanks.
I know this is an Old Post but the information is excellent I just ordered one of these cards off Amazon a few hours ago and there are around $32 now I just received my first Mil Dot scope of course with Mil Dot adjustments 6×24×50 Second focal plane it's all I can afford at this time.
Mil dots are true 18 power.
Thanks for the Information
Just got mine for my M24 SWS. Love it.
Amen Mr Rex. I don’t know what I’d do without my MilDot Master. Was hunting with some friends and my rangefinder failed cause the weather. It over heated. When I pulled out the old trust Civilian sniper log book I’ve made, my friends looked at me a little funny. 997 yards coyote down. But it does take a lot of practice.
You need to get paid by Mildot Master for advertisement. I was considering buying from Amazon for 32.95. You sold me. Thanks Rex.
Heard about these but never seen in action. Awesome tool to have
Also very handy in certain hunting situations when you have antler restrictions, like Alaskan bull MOOSE. Must have 50 inch spread or larger. Just need to know range to Moose and measure antler spread in mill. Line up range to target and read size next to mills. Can save your butt a lot of money in fines.
Great video was looking for good gear to fill out my kit for my first long range precision class im taking next momth and i instantly ordered one after seing your video
I hadn't seen this review before, but after watching I went and bought directly. 35 for a plastic slide rule sounds expensive, but if expensive stopped me from buying gun stuff before, it didn't stop me for very long.
I’ve been using one of these since 1998 and I wouldn’t trade it for any reason. As long as you know how much your round drops you just can’t go wrong. I made a drop info card and taped it to mine and have never failed to engage whatever target I needed to.😎
I'll give you $2,800 for it. They are sadly no longer on the market.
You are a good sales man ! make your own and put your name on it !!
love the videos ! many hours of them ..
Always wondered about these doing business with SWFA and their offerings of the Master. Thanks for the info, way cheaper than a Kestrel and faster than a pencil. Still waiting for an M1A rig review.
Really wish I had the chance to shoot long distance, good stuff as usual Rex.
Your a good teacher man!
Thanks for the class
I need one! Arrggghhh! Thanks Rex! 🇫🇷🎯🎯🇫🇷
Awesome tutorial!
Trigonometry I'm out lol,I love all your videos bro
I am buying one of these for ARMA3 haha.
I don't get to the real range as much as I like but i do a lot of virtual long range shooting.
MrAwsomeshot this comment wins the internet.. that is such a good idea.
awesome video thank you.
Thanks kind drill sergeant, Sir!
Thanks man I just have to look at this again and again. - you go to fast 4 me.
Just getting into precision shooting. I've got mine ordered. :)
cool video, worth picking one up.
Great info !
I need to get me one of these ..
Wow Rex !!! 221 Views in less than 1 hour... Nice job !
Thank you sir!!!
Word up!! Rex 💯🤙🌎
Just wanted to say I have watched all your sniper 101 videos and have gotten a lot of useful information. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. You seem like a really cool guy as well. You remind me so much like Ted Nugent. It would be entertaining on one video you scream out WANGO TANGO!! Haha.
Stranglehold for reals
Very cool tool I can use some of the of the advice my new scope that is coming is Mill. Thanks for the advice I did subscribe and I will keep watching very interesting have a good shooting day bang bang bang he he he
that thing is awesome.
Very cool Ty
Thank you man
Hey Rex, thanks for the vid! I was wondering if there is possibility on a follow up to this tutorial on how to use the MilDot Master for use on an MOA based platform? I understand that this is doable.....or have I been misinformed?
GREAT INFO, TNX REX, YOUR INFOS ARE A BLESSING, THE ONLY question I have, how would you know your target's exact sizes? Is it just guessing, or you have to have all these info, when you enter a battle zone?! Because sometimes in the desert, you don't have anything to measure a d verify your distance. I just want to know how do you manage in those situations.
Thank you again for all your info and hard work.
P.S. DOES THIS WORK WITH THE ROUND MILDOT SCOPE RETICLE AS WELL?I HAVE A FEW SCOPES THAT THE MILS ARE PERFECTLY ROUND, NOT IN THE SHAPE OF THE MILS YOU ARE SHOWING HERE ON THIS CARD.
Good stuff. Thanks. Amazon has the Mildot Master for $32.
I got one its awesome.
very nice
Nice tool to have when the batteries stop working in electronic tools, indeed !!!!
YES!!!
For those of us using an moa/moa scope, is there an moa dot master? Thanks Rex! These videos have convinced me to get into long range shooting! Putting together my first rifle system!
The same one is built to work in both units.
Is there a distance at which rangefinders have maxed out. If not, a rangefinder would be easier-although maybe it's more fun to do distance calculations.
I use one of these with an MOA recital. Now I have an MRAD recital. How do you range when using the Mrad recital?
I have another request...How do you feel about the kestrel devices? I'd like to hear your opinion on both the Kestrel for atmospherics and also the Kestrel that includes the built in ballistic solver. I use a log book currently and get a baseline with jbm online, but was curious about the Kestrel devices. I'd kind of like to hear your opinion and get more information on them before dropping that kind of coin.
+ValueofLiberty That was coming up very soon for comprehensive review :-)
Can one order this, it would be great if one can order one to a country outsise america, its realy handy. Good vid.🤜🤛
I think I have it!!!
Fourth.. Woot woot.. Drop everything, it's sniper 101 time...
I love this video Rex. I've had one for years and never used it. But if the electronics goes away it's a great back up. Question, when determining the down angle the string works good but when you point the card up hill the string gives you nada...do you just which to the other hole when looking up hill or do the makers of the card assume you will have the high ground and will be looking down on your quarry?
+Mickel Burgess Just turn the card around and look along the top from the other end. As long as gravity is still working, it will too.
Hahahaha...thanks man. Funny how I over thought that one...I need more chocolate obviously...have a great day, it's looking like a nice day here in Wyoming.
Rex , in your opinion, how accurate is this thing , 1 to 10 ? Thanks 👍👍
I just don't think I'll ever understand mil-dot reticles. So far the primary arms ACSS is the only one I can truly use and feel good about. I'm new to long range and scopes and shooting in general though. I need a hands on training course to learn mills I think.
For Rex and all the precision guys:
A sniper challenge.
1) put down two man size targets space them ~100m apart (side to side and distance),
2) drive to a new (unknown) shooting spot at least 900 meters away,
3) make a 1 shot hit with first bullet,
4) if you miss you must do the second shot on the other target. (to simulate a moved target)
The clock start ticking from the moment you exit the car until you hit a target.
Can you do it?
How fast is your team?
Off cause weather etc is going to make a big difference, but I think it's a nice challenge, as it involves the whole system.
+ookiemand Nice drill. Thanks for the input! Keep them coming.
+TiborasaurusRex This brings up a good topic. Could you do a video of some different ideas of drills to do to improve our shooting?
I would like to know where the mensures start from the dot one stating from the botton or from the line in the bottom
Im sorry for the question but i am a noob with mildots at what magnification must the scope be set for this to be accurate?
Can it tell you the rang in yards too, or would you have to convert to yardage yourself?
I’ve got the Mil-Dot Master. But I’ve recently gone over to MilRad. Do they have or will they ever make a “Master” for that?
width or height. Which is it? First you did it with height and then with the car, you did it with width and called it height. Plus, what power of magnification do we use. If I look at something at 4x and then at 15x. The target will cover more mil dots at 15x changing the calculations. Right?
Can this tool help you estimate the size of the target you are shooting at? Say the spread of a mule deer buck or elk? You have ranged the target with you or rangefinder, took the # of MILs then will it give you an estimated size in inches?
Thanks for the tutorial Rex. When you were milling your dinosaur and viper with the M-D Master, in reality, you're gonna want to do that with your actual reticle in your scope, right, the mils on the card aren't actually for measuring? just ask because I'm a little slow sometimes and unsure whether I'm taking you too literally.
+Mike Melina Hahaha... indeed, sir. You will be using the optic to measure the target - NOT holding the card up to the target. :-) I love it!
Do you zoom all the way in on your target when you measure it?
PS...throw a link up for donations will ya?? I am more than happy to fill the plate.
+Austin Midway (Sparky123) There is a PayPal button on the my channel's main page... :-) Thanks for the operational support!
Can't do math to save my soul - but now I CAN do this. Thanks again for more good stuff Rex.
since this is old 8 years do ppl still use this , where to buy or is there better option now?
Great video as always but the biggest question goes unanswered. What if you don't know the dimensions of your target, how can you possibly find the distance?
juncho1977, you have to simply go by averages. Like the average height of a buck deer. Or average height of a barbed wire fence and so forth.
a bit confused, what if you don't know the size of your target, a steel plate at unknown distance?
Do they make a Moa master? My scope doesn’t read in mils so this is obsolete to me then?
Gold.....
Long range shooting seems very complicated in my opinion... I think i have to stick to "Kentucky Windage" until i learn more, alot more...
Complicated and EXPENSIVE
Honestly much of the power of the mildot system is lost when doing conversions like this. It makes it way more complicated than it needs to be.
Forget inches. Memorize the size of things in millimeters and divide by the number of mills. Breathtakingly simple. If you see a rather tall man (1800mm) 3 mils tall in your scope, he's 600 meters away. If you see an average size passenger vehicle (5000mm) 10 mils long in your scope, it's 500 meters away.
If you want to do less math rather than more math, just know the size of things in millimeters. Write the sizes of things down in your book in millimeters.
Does zooming scope affect this math?
@@silvawill89
It depends on if your scope is a Second Focal Plane or a First Focal Plane. Scopes that say SFP is second, FFP is First. The SFP scopes usually have to be zoomed all the way in for your reticle to be accurate. A FFP increases the reticle size when you zoom in. So if you're on 4 power, your reticle is going to be small. When you start to zoom in, your reticle will get bigger until you're at your max zoom setting. It doesn't matter for FFP scopes because the reticle adjusts for this automatically. Unfortunately SFP scopes can't do this. But you have to read your scopes manual because they "can" call for a different zoom level for your scope to be accurate. So it depends on which type of scope you have, SFP vs FFP. You also have to read your manual on the reticle distance between each dot. One dot to the next dot may be 1 mil, or it could be 1/2 mil. So yes thats important and can definitely change your accuracy.
@@ibanezrg320fm my scope is a hawke vantage 6x24x44 with SFP half dot reticle. Unfortunately the owners manual says nothing about the distance between the dots ans half marks in the reticle.
@@silvawill89
It's located on their website. I found it in 10 seconds. Go to their website and choose Products, Rifle Scopes, Vantage, Vantage SF and then Reticle Information. It shows everything there.
@@silvawill89 One mil is 3.6" @ 100yds not meters. So simply go out to yur favorite range, put out a target at 100 yds, measure 3.6" elevation from yur target zero make a mark on the target. Go back to shooting position and adjust yur scope power until the cross hair is on center and the second dot is on yur mark, Viola you now know what power setting the scope is calibrated for. Most variable scopes are factory set at 10x, but dont bet on it. SFP in a nutshell. Good hunting.
now days every hunter has a range finder .... now explain to me if Bear is at 460yards (my rifle is zeroed at 100) how many mills is that (can't figure out how that work ) tnx
Does it work with FFP and SFP scopes?
Rex... dude, I can't find the battery compartment on this thing... =)
Mine is solar.
Check instruction manual.
Torch TorchWood - What? Batteries not included?! 😏
😂
Can anyone help me better understand how to use the mildot master (I recently purchased one) in regards to angle when shooting up hill or downhill? I see how Rex has mounted a string and weight but not sure exactly how to angle the card in relation to the target from where I"m prone to determine proper angle... any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks
Simply align the straight edge of the card with your bore, read the degree measurement. Cosign of that angle is multiplied by the true "lased" or measured range. This new calculation is the range that you adjust your elevation for in order to achieve proper trajectory.
Can it be used with MRAD scopes?
where can i get this awsome tool
at what magnification is this chart made for
Would love to have this in centimeters and meters then inches and meters on The scale.
Jakelol1980: The sliding card inside the outer housing has yards and inches on one side. Meters and centimeters on the opposite side. Just slide out the inner card and flip it over. Best of both systems. Plus, no batteries that quit just when needed the most. Well worth the $30 cost.
so when are we going shooting???
Does this come with grid squares?
Where can you get this?
Hi, where can I find a mildot master card.
Thanks.
