    Alie,take off all your rings when you do maintenance, you don't want to RIP a finger off if you grab on to something if you slipped and caught the rings. Think safety all the time.

      Hell yes as a retired engineer here in New Zealand I've seen some very nasty results from welders having arcing across a ring and basically burned to the bone instantly to having their ring caught in a machine and actually left the guys finger hanging by a bit of skin, all jewelry was band in my workshop

    • @jefflangille2882
      @jefflangille2882 Před 2 měsíci

      Totally agree. It only takes like 30lbs of pressure to deglove a finger with a ring on it.

    A heart felt AHHHHH! I got me some Breaking Waves. Alie up the mast, swinging around, camera in one hand and tying a knot with the other. Another example of having balls without testicles. Hope your illness passes quickly Ben. Have fun and stay safe. ❤🙏

    Alie, you’re a MONSTER!!!
    - great filming to boot🎉
    Watch your main halyard for chafe at various reefing heights (can hit sheave support at top of mast) plus sheet halyards where they ride over pole.
    You can buy chafing sleeves sized for various size lines worth their weight in gold on long offshore passages.

  • @sailing.not.dreaming
    @sailing.not.dreaming Před 2 měsíci +2

    I had two halyards chafe badly and I discovered it was the wind rattling them against a point on the mast that was sharp. Took my mast down and filed and sandpapered every place that was right angled.

    Bit of advice on halliards chaving. These simple things getting a halliard from inside the mast to outside will kill any halliard. You bend it a couple of degrees, depending on the lenght of the metal thingy. Chave will occur. Even with dyneema lines. A halliard can come from inside the mast and out to have a straight angle to the winch. That takes two rollers, top one to take the halliard under while the lower takes the halliard on the top of it. To bridge the angle and have less chave. Nevertheless, one should always check for chave. And, what Ialways did.....Buy 5 meters extra length for your halliards. Use swivels on the head and tack of the sail and use a bowline to attached halliard to the head of the sail. Most importantly: When you drop the sail, check for chave at the top end of the halliard. You can also check chave on the bit in/out mast. Thin line on end of hallaird, hoist, and the part that might have chaved comes out.
    As soon as you see chave.......shorten the bowline on the head......and you are good to go. And then......repeat. Hope this makes sense.
