Holy cow....we did it!! We are not tech savvy at all and the step by step video was awesome!! It took my husband and I a few hours because we were so afraid of breaking/cracking something, but your directions were spot on! (2018 Suburban Premier.) We just bought this car in April, and by May the glitches and chirping started! Augh! It took us a few hours to change it out (sad to admit that), but it works so far. We bought the digitizer off of a trusted site on E-bay per the part number we got from a GM forum we found. The dealer first wanted $1300 to change out the screen and said it was back ordered with no arrival date. For less than $50, we did this ourselves (with a hairdryer) and can't thank you enough for your guidance! Praying this is all the fix we needed!

Never thought I could fix my suburban touch screen for under $100 - this terrific video and Jason’s help did the trick! Although my suburban is a 2019 and the replacement screen only indicates compatibility with 14 thru 18, Jason volunteered to give it a no risk try and shipped the part with a free return option if it didn’t work. And it paid off - everything is again working perfectly. Thx Jason!
One comment on the video - I’m always nervous about disconnecting electrical plugs and I avoided unplugging all the plugs under the center console and the bottom of the radio and had no problem just setting them aside without disconnecting all those plugs.

Just replaced the screen in our 2017 Suburban Z71. This video was a HUGE help, very easy to follow. I will say that we went ahead and pre-ordered the complete digitizer/screen assembly instead of just the glass digitizer by itself.. made the whole job easier. If you're reading this and your radio is doing the ghost touch, spend the extra cash and get the complete assembly. Our radio works flawlessly now. Thanks for the video!

What works for me and it's free. I had the same problem with my 2018 Tahoe. Sometimes the touch screen worked fine then sometimes it would act like you described and worse. This is what I did to "solve" or at least stop it from happening. I have a touch button ignition. What I do is when I first enter the vehicle I wait for the logo that shows on the touch screen to disappear then push the ignition button to "On" without touching the brake pedal. This allows the vehicle to turn on without starting the vehicle. Then I once again wait for the logo that shows on the touch screen to disappear and then I simply start my vehicle. My touch screen acts "normal" again. It's worked for me every time and it has allowed me to cancel my new $850 (plus $300 to install it) touch screen that I ordered from the dealership. I hope this helps any and everyone who has had issues with these touch screens that I believe should have been recalled.

Thanks. It might eventually do as you say but it's been over 2 years now and my touch screen has not glitched even once when I do this pre-trip process where it was glitching almost every trip before. Could be it's just my Tahoe that reacts this way. @@jasonateam

Thank you Jason for taking the time to create such a detailed video for this fix. It's fantastic and I truly appreciate it.
Just fixed our 2017 Tahoe "Premier" (I use that term loosely given that GM customers have to deal with silly issues like this) and everything went off without a hitch.
A couple of notes from my experience in case it helps anyone else that's going to tackle this:
    - Total time from start to finish was about 2.5 hours. I was intentionally slow on everything and I kept referring back to your video. Having done this once I could now probably do it in an hour
    - By far, the worst part for me was dealing with the cup-holder center panel. That thing is on there *tight*. I also had an issue putting it back on. I didn't realize this but there's a "notch" on the far-right bottom part of the panel (near the passenger footwell) that actually needs to slide into the panel on which the overall piece is attached. I could have left it this way (no one would have noticed) but it was bugging me so I had to take it off and re-seat the whole thing
    - The plugs on that very panel (4:45 mark) don't actually need to be taken out. You can just pull the panel back a bit and rest it over the open center glovebox
    - The plug on the push-button start (6:11 mark) does not need to be unplugged. You can pull that panel off and just let it dangle
    - The control panel plug (7:56 mark) also does not need to be unplugged. You can just pull it back and away from the console then rest it on top of the cup-holder panel and it will stay out of the way
    - When I first watched this video, I wasn't comfortable with the idea of snipping the brackets as you do at the 11:40 mark. However, I realized that it was necessary and it didn't matter in the end - that cover still "snapped" back on to those clips even without the plastic brackets being intact
    - Between the 24:45 mark and about 24:47, it looks like you actually screwed the back of the screen into the metal bracket before you put the screen into the plastic black frame. You didn't mention that you did this and I thought it was odd because that's not how the screws came out. I suspect you did that to make putting it back into the frame easier at the 24:59 mark. Those screws then disappear at the 25:22 mark and you do eventually put them back in once the protective plastic backing is in place. Not a problem at all but just pointing that out in case anyone else is confused by that. I didn't screw those in before putting the screen into the black frame but it was also a little dicey because the screen wasn't at all secured to the metal bracket. Just needed to be really careful so it didn't fall out
Again - thank you for such a great video! Spent $40 for the part and a couple of hours. Way better than $1500 at the dealer! :)

Perfect, I’m very glad you chose to remove the bezel from the LCD screen. This is the famous ghost touch problems of the Chevys. On my truck, I was getting random commands, as if a ghost was touching the screen. I was actually able to source the LCD screen with the touchscreen directly from China, that’s where they were originally made. My problem was the screens refresh rate did not match the original board on the truck. So I just swapped the brand new touchscreen onto the old LCD monitor.

Update: Fast shipping. Digitizer came in 3 days. The center console cupholder assembly was the hardest piece to get loose but other than that. Make sure you test before buttoning everything up. I had to call Jason twice because the first time I put everything back the screen was totally unresponsive. Took it all apart again to check the ribbon cable connection where the digitizer connects. The 2nd time it worked but glitchy and phantom button clicks like before (the original problem) . Took it apart a 3rd time and checked the ribbon cable again. The 3rd time it worked. This leads me to believe that many problems people are having with the digitizer may actually be issues with a bad connection of the ribbon cable.
I am going to give it a shot. This has been driving me nuts.

I have a similar experience, purchased a new digitizer for my 17 Sierra. Installed it, everything seemed great again for about 30 seconds, Touch Screen worked as it should and then bam the phantom button clicks started happening again (even worse then before) I was bummed out but may take it apart again after reading your comment. It could be a bad connection of the ribbon cable? Hopefully so. I guess I will double check it.

I was tempted to go with the Chinese LCD module, but thought, heck I can do this! $31.49 and a couple of hours labor and it was fixed. Come late spring/summer, it turns into an annoyance once again. So now it may be temporarily inoperable on a hot day, parking in the sun, but the fan cools things off and gets it working again.

Hi, Great Video!! I have a 2020 Tahoe doing the same thing. Most touch screens listed on Ebay are for 2015-18 are they the same for 2020 and is there a difference if the vehicle is equipped with Nav.

My screen had been going phantom glitchy for a year, until in a moment of frustration I smacked the dash over the screen. After that it went black but would flicker on occasionally, but less so every day it seemed like. I replaced the whole screen and LCD. When I plugged it all back in and turned on the vehicle it flashed very briefly the Chevy logo and then went black. I opened everything back up and all the connections seem good, so I’m perplexed. Any chance it could be the circuit board or something else? Or should I just triple check the ribbon connections again? Thanks by the way. This is the most helpful content I’ve found on this issue!

Great video! We just bought a new-to-us 2018 Tahoe. When we test drove it everything was working fine. Literally as we were driving it home it started freaking out. Navigation was showing the vehicle driving off the road, the radio started switching from station to station and nothing worked with us touching it. We texted the sales guy immediately and he said they'd take care of it....a month ago. Now they are saying it's not a safety thing, it isn't really covered, etc. Jerks.... Anyway, why does this happen in the first place? Is there something that can be done to prevent it from happening again once it's replaced?
