  • Looking back at Miikka Kiprusoff's time with the Calgary Flames.
The Flames had missed the playoffs for seven consecutive years, and were destined to make it eight, when Darryl Sutter traded for a little known goalie named Miikka Kiprusoff.
The Finnish goalie took the Flames all the way to Game 7 of the 2003-2004 Stanley Cup Finals, and gave the Flames incredible goaltending for nine seasons.
The Flames will retire Kiprusoff's jersey number 34 on March 2nd, 2024.
Includes NHL highlights, Calgary Flames highlights, and Miikka Kiprusoff highlights.

Even as a diehard Tampa fan, Kipper got me into hockey as a kid, I loved the netminder position since I first started watching and it was around #34s rise to power, I was in awe of him. Still have my #34 CCM jersey I wear every now and then even though its going on 20 years old. Forever happy I got to watch this man.

There is a lot of finnish players who aren't looked Like That even when should. Like just Selänne who had a craazy career from the start to being able to play at that level in later years and everything in between. Having records. Still isn't mentioned much in like all time greats by just someones opinion.
I don't know what it is. Maybe since it's kinda trait of being humble so players from say US or Russia comes to peoples mind more easily for the entertainment factor of not being at all humble. It might put finnish players a bit on the back of the mind.

Didn't give a flying sh*t about what people thought about him outside the team. They both are INTERESTING people! He's one of the great players of amazing era of TPS players. S. Koivu, J. The last Flames game I went to was at 6:00pm on Sunday, March 24th, 2013, against St. Louis. 19,289 in attendance.
Kipper got the first star of the game that night with 36 GS and 2 GA for a .947 SV%. The Flames scored once in each period, the first by Roman Červenka with assists by Dennis Wideman and T.J. Brodie. The second again by Roman Červenka with assists by Jiří Hudler and Mikael Backlund. Jarome Iginla scored the game winner at 12:58 into the final period with an assist by Alex Tanguay.
Seeing Iggy and Kipper not only play in their final years as a Flames, but to see Kipper stand on his head, and to see Iggy score a GWG….nothing will ever top that in my life as a Cowtowner.
