  • Another balmy Summer evening spent at the 44th ANNUAL KBIC (Keweenaw Bay Indian Community) POWWOW in Baraga-opening Grand Entry on Friday evening is always special! Wall to wall people many in regalia (Powwow clothing) -lots of good frybread smells permeating the air as well as the aromas of many other food vendors tempted the palette. Colorful Native jewelry and clothing and other Powwow items -line the walkway in the Ojibwa Campground. An exciting evening in Michigan's Upper Perninsula!

It is very important to keep these traditions passed on thru the generations especially if they move away from the city or reservation where there is a bond Saw a sad show on PBS about the Canadian Indian Schools where children were taken from parents and taken to schools to have the native ways driven out of them. Many died and many others drifted on to abusive relationships. Therefore this gathering needs to be presented and enjoyed.
