John Huston interview, Ireland 1981

Film director John Huston, hunter and Irish citizen by choice.
Patrick Gallagher talks to film director John Huston about being an Irish citizen by choice, and his new autobiography ‘An Open Book’.
Huston now lives in a remote part of Mexico but lived in County Galway for fifteen years. He became an Irish citizen and was made a Doctor of Literature at Trinity College Dublin.
Ireland was and is an abiding love of his.
Huston discusses his memories of his life in Ireland and his reasons for leaving. While living in the west of Ireland he was joint master of the Galway Blazers, which he describes as the happiest 10 years of his life. He also talks about his film career and his latest work on ‘Annie’.
Huston also has had a long love for Mexico and he describes his somewhat unconventional home between the jungle and the sea living in relative isolation from the rest of the world.

When I was a boy John Huston the great director and Molly O’Rourke that fine huntswoman once passed me by as I walked down a country lane as they rode out with The Galway Blazers, hunting the fox.
