- Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! CZcams's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look at the 2005 Chevrolet SSR. During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

A lot of people say this truck is ugly but I really like it.
A lot of people hating on this beauty of a car.
I really like it and would not mind owning one.
It's nice to have something different.
But I guess people are just quick to dismiss things because they are different.
The ssr looks awesome it even has 50s styled speedometer
I like it but my moms car is faster i mean the ssr goes 140mph and my moms 2010 mazda 6 goes 160mph
But the ssr has way more horsepower
+Justin.R Gaming Play the speedo may have that as the max on the gauge but the vehicle is limited to a certain speed plus i may not even get up to that speed with the limiter off

I remember as a kid i loved this truck. Every time my mom would drive by my local Publix store i would always see the SSR in this black color parked in the back. I was so amazed because it looked like something a bug would drive so i called it the bug truck until i figured out the name of it later.

I think that the more people hate a good vehicle like this, because of its looks, the more fond I grow of it. Cars like this, the Mercury Marauder and the Trailblazer SS are awesome cars that get hated on because of their looks and old school tech. Because of that, I want to buy every single one of them....😏

John Lawry It's a retro look, gives off the "old Chevy truck" look adding some modern features like a hard retractable top and a giant trunk. I've driven 2 of these and in person it's a lot larger than you think, sounds great too. But the styling you can tell was purely to give off a retro look.
MAN_ON_WHEELZ I understand the retro look. I love the plymouth prowler but this i just can't get my head around.
John Lawry lol why not? ok it's not the most practical car I'll admit that, and maybe not necessarily the prettiest but you got to admit it can turn heads, it doesn't look like your average cookie-cutter vehicle. They made something that stands out in a crowd... but hey I guess I see where you're coming from, I'm one of the few that don't find the Bugatti Veyron all that visually appealing. Looks like a big lady bug.
MAN_ON_WHEELZ Yeah i don't find the Veyron that good looking of a car ether its fine just not that great there are plenty of better looking super cars out there. But yeah i don't know what it is about this truck car thing that i don't like its just something about it.

If it looked more like the holden utes it would've probably sold really good and they might've kept em in production

@paul austin I've recently gotten a soft spot for the crossfire it looks pretty goofy and it works for sure, although I will say I'm pretty biased, almost everything mopar has made looks good in my opinion

BornToBeFamed it is a cool car, but every time I see one on the road I can’t help but think all the money that went into it from the engine, the drive wheels, and the styling could’ve easily gone into other vehicles people actually wanted

I don't see why the hell everyone thinks this is an ugly car...??.. I love this vehicle! My next purchase for sure. Whenever I see one (especially if it's the purple color), I gotta slow down and check it out. BEAUTIFUL CAR!
its not ugly, its kinda like a futuristic retro, I like it.
I applaud GM for taking a chance and actually producing this vehicle. Maybe not the sales and critical success that we would've liked but still very cool and unique. Current retro cars like the Camaro probably owe a bit of debt to the SSR.

I love my Asphalt Black Supercharged 2005 SSR. Most fun car I ever had. I have a 2012 Raptor for a daily, but the R loves to come out and play on nice days.

Very nice professional video, That SSR reminds me of the 48 Chevy pickup truck. But
with the size of the engine in that SSR it moves very fast. What a hoot it must have been to drive.
Ahhh the years. I was in middle school when this came out. I remember my mom taking me to the boardwalk, and I walked right by a brand new one. I can still smell the new car smell coming off it to this day lol
@saabkyle04 You tell them Kyle! We watch your videos for the huge amount of detail and information you offer about the cars ,not the amount of tire smoke ,0-60 times or any other stuff like that. For all that ,there are other channels like you said.

I own a 2005 war with the 6 speed and supercharged. If you like attention own one of these. They draw attention where ever you go. Lots of fun to drive

I love this car....i would love have this car....i like it becuz its different compared to everything i have seen. i drove one about 3 years ago and fell in love with it ever since...i would gladly buy one of these and do my best to keep it up for the rest of my life..... i hope that one day i can afford it...i may just put the money down and get it

The SSR was styled after the Chevy Pickups of the 1950’s. There was a guy where I live in Canada that campaigned a red one with the LS Power Package at our local Drag Strip

This vehicle had a V8 engine and can be equipped with an automatic or manual transmission. I can tell you that no one liked it because according to Wikipedia: The 2004 model sold below expectations with under 9,000 sales at US$42,000 each.
Also everyone loves the Impala SS from 1994-1996. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo & Pontiac Grand Prix were GM's vehicle choices for NASCAR competition. what do these 3 vehicles have in common: they are loved by many, and were all powered by V8 engines and were RWD
the Impala, and street legal Monte Carlo & Grand Prix were powered by V6 engines, were FWD, & automatic. This meant that the Impala was actually a downgrade from the 90s model (minus the transmission. The 90s SS was also automatic) and the production Monte Carlo & Grand Prix did not have the same drive wheels & engine from their NASCAR counterparts which were powered by V8 engines, RWD, and had a manuel transmission

Haha, I feel like it's dejavu since I saw the two previous videos SSRs that you did (the 2005 black one you did 3 years ago and the 2006 silver one you did two years), and you said the exact same thing. At least it was nice to see a driving portion that was missing from the other videos

What a cool unique car. Who wants to drive a car like the corvette or mustang.....thousands upon thousands of those things on the road. GM took a chance, listened to car folks and built a concept car that they asked for. Perhaps the biggest failing was pricing it so high or that was part of plan? Produce a few thousand for a few years, get publicity and create a future collector car?

those things are a hell of alot lower than they look. I'm 6'1, and got in one that I saw at a dealership, and was suprised at how low it really was. That running board is also pretty wide.

My dad worked in the Craft Center plant where this was manufactured. Sadly they demolished it as well as the Fisher Body plant after the financial woes.

I remember a Zimbabwean has an LHD SSR here in South Africa, brought over from Zimbabwe. It is parked on a sloped driveway with bricks in front of the wheels. The brakes are fried as hell, it's probably because it's a model not sold in South Africa, so there are no spare brakes.
This "pick up truck" was originally made to pay homage to the 1950s Chevy trucks. My father had a nice truck back then and wanted one of these when they first came out because he though it was neat but it was just not economical to buy a 2 seater vehicle for a 4 member family. It is still a cool and unique ride though.

Unique Vehicle...only downfalls i can think of are the 4 Speed Transmission (in Automatic form) and the cheap low grade materials used in the interior.

Perfect for me, I live in the city so I don't need a proper country-side truck, but I do need something that hold lots of clean, typical cargo like groceries or small furniture, I can do without back seats, I'd like a convertible, and I'd like a truck, and I want a muscle car, and I would like to turn heads when I drive by. This is pretty perfect! This doesn't really have any direct competitors.
