    Travelling this fall to Italy via Frankfurt. Never been to either before. After watching this glad that I gave us over 3 hours transit time. I hate tight connections, especially in places where I don't know the infrastructure.

      You are doing the right thing three hours is going to be fine, but I find it strange that airlines will allow people to make non viable short FRA connections in their itineraries. The airport itself can make themselves a lot more friendly for passengers as well. Other airports are not nearly as bad as this.

      Other than connecting through Frankfurt airport, I love being in Frankfurt for my Aviation trips.

    Did a similar trip like this two years ago. YYJ-YVR-FRA-GLA with Air Canada Q400 and 777 and Lufthansa A320. Transferring through FRA wasn’t great but not as bad as your experience Henry. I think it was suffering from post-pandemic problems at the time, you’d have thought things would have improved, not got worse.

      Frankfurt has gotten worse there’s no question about it. Making a transfer from one international flight to another requires an overnight in my honest opinion at this underwhelming airport.

    I was there in April, 2.25 hours to connect DTW flight to Bucharest, had to run, hassle, sucked…yeah 3+ hours is needed…

    • @JetFlix
      @JetFlix  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The airport is very unfriendly for connections because they put lots of hurdles and great distances to make it extremely stressful and difficult and if you’re not physically fit, it’s going to be impossible and/or dangerous.

    • @mzrzfxr
      @mzrzfxr Před 2 měsíci

      Yes it was quite a run, rushed not fun. Made spotting near impossible as I was just worried about my connection.

    Oh crap, I am flying into FRA from Toronto in September and have one hour and 30 min layover there for connecting flight to MUC.

      I would say that is an impossible FRA connection.. but good luck.

    Doubt I'll get over to Frankfurt but good advice. What is the ding that always dings just after you leave the ground? 6:12 I heard that many times on planes. The view from the bus is great, you get right up close to the planes.

    • @mzrzfxr
      @mzrzfxr Před 2 měsíci

      Very cool view! But really Europe, what the hell is up with all of the buses and remote stands at airports? FRA, CDG, really all of them? For a bloc so obsessed with green initiatives, I cannot imagine a bunch of buses running around a portable power units/HVAC is green at all… do better…

      I invite flights attendants and pilots to chime in on this matter, but is my understanding that whenever the gear up or geared down is indicated in the flightdeck, that chime sounds and it tells the entire crew that the emergency lights in the cabin are on or off with gear up and down. It also tells the flight attendants when they are landing .. that the landing will be happening very soon.

    That’s FRA… the regular security and/or transit security are by far the worst in the whole world! The wait at the passport control at such a so called /modern country is so unacceptable… I avoid FRA or just give myself 5+ hr connecting time as I missed connections in the past…

    Frankfurt is a fantastic airport for spotting, with its huge variety of airlines and types including the Lufthansa B747. I recommend the German state TV documentary series about Frankfurt Airport. - it's great! With English subtitles: czcams.com/video/DRv73rewtBw/video.html

      No question about it for spotting, Frankfurt is absolutely wonderful. I’ve been doing spotting at Frankfurt for 40 years myself so I’m well experienced in the various locations this amazing airport can offer us avgeeks.

    Connecting in FRA can be stressful but if you set the expectation bar correctly, it doesn’t have to be. My experience recently at FRA back in April had a one night stay built in because I was coming off of a 13 hour flight and had enough flying for one day. When comparing FRA to LHR or CDG when making a connection, I’ll choose FRA every time. There are however better options within Europe to connect. ZRH and MUC are both better than FRA and at the same time part of the LH group of hubs. Avoid MAD, LIS, FCO, ATH to connect especially in summer due to overcrowded conditions.

      I think you’re right David if you put a overnight in, it’s completely a different story. And I’ve had many flights through Frankfurt where I’ve done just that and it’s wonderful as I love having schnitzel at the Pailener steakhouse at the FRA train station. You hit the nail on the head .. schedule overnight and it’s wonderful.
