It’s actually a clone specifically of the Browning Hi-Power MkIII, a somewhat modernized version of the original that came out in the late eighties and was adopted by the British military as their standard sidearm until they were replaced by Glock 17s only a few years ago.
The only differences between the basic Girsan model you have and the original FN Browning MkIII is that first, the front sight profile on the original was a kind of stubby rectangle, whereas on the Girsan, it’s a shallow right triangle, and also the original had a spur hammer whereas the Girsan uses the rowel hammer of earlier Hi-Powers. Aside from those two differences they are virtually identical, including the same grips, same ambi thumb safety, and the same sighting system, those three white vertical stripes that form the sight picture.
I have one as well and have not experienced any hammer bite issues. I agree that ergonomically, the Browning Hi-Power is among the finest 9mm service pistols ever made.
Speaking of when it was made, no, it wasn’t designed in 1935; that’s when the design was completed and it went into production. The design work began in the early 20s as a collaboration between John Moses Browning and his Belgian protege, Dieudonne Saive. After Browning died at his desk - some say while actually working on the Hi-Power - in 1926, Dieudonne was left to complete the project himself, which he finally did in 1935. This pistol went on to become the most widely used military sidearm in history, adopted for police and/or military use at one time or another by about 90 countries around the world. It is still used by a number of militaries, and remains the standard sidearm of the Indian army, the second largest standing army in the world, where it is built under license. Another fun fact: Dieudonne Saive went on to design the FN FAL rifle, the iconic Cold War era “right arm of the Free World”.
The magazine for the Girsan is made for them by Mec-Gar of Italy, and you can easily order spares from Mec-Gar’s website. Just look for their blued 15-round Browning Hi-Power magazines; that’s exactly what came with your pistol.
You didn’t mention, and perhaps didn’t notice in your owners manual that this Girsan Hi-Power is NOT rated for +P ammo; these are standard pressure only nines. Just thought I’d give you a heads up on that.
One last thing, if you’ve had it to the range by now, you’ve probably noticed that there is virtually no discernible trigger reset. You have to simply let the trigger all the way back out to ensure a proper reset. You may think that’s an issue with the Girsan in particular but it is actually a characteristic of the Browning Hi-Power design; just a quirk you would have to get used to with any Hi-Power.

I might have to find one of these. Part of my wants to save for a real Browning HP but they are just so expensive.

You mentioned the finish of the Springfield SA 35- blue- what is the finish of the Grisan? Word is the SA 35 imports Turkish frame and slide forgings and they are finish machined here.

He isn't in a field, so it isn't a field strip. (you are being a pedantic moron).

@@TheKoba49 I hope so. It's really frustrating trying to find actual disassembly videos when there are 1000 people calling field stripping videos "disassembly"... (when any fool knows how to field strip a modern firearm or can figure it out... Not to mention it's like the first thing in every manual after the warnings ...and on top of that, I'm failing to see why we need a 1000th video on how to field strip any specific firearm). I was certain that a 20 minute video by a supposed reliable source would be an actually disassembly video and not just a massive waste of time made by someone that doesn't know the difference between field stripping and disassembly.
