  • I'm certainly not letting this go completely to waste. For all your viewing pleasures, I've remade my old Double King video to be both audible AND more visually appealing! Crazy what a little time off can do for the ole' inspiration glands. Anyways, I haven't edited the script too much for good reason... which you'll all soon see...
    Follow my twatter for updates on that:

    This video was made for critical and entertainment purposes and falls under fair use. Double King is a work of Felix Colgrave, and I encourage everyone to check out all of his work. The sudio in this video is from properties owned by Gorillaz, Nintendo and Konami. Plz don't sue guys. Also, look into Englewood, he's who makes the outro music to these videos. He's great.

    I mean, the "opening to the underworld" does look like it has the Double King's mouth, as seen when he threw his temper tantrum. His people lived in the caves and did not venture outside into the sun. Mayhaps they had a reason/purpose for staying inside the caves, they are people of the underworld, and yet he refused the way of life of his people and wanted to rule the surface world....

      That's ridiculous, the opening to the underworld "looking like him" is like saying a dog is a cat just because they both have 4 legs, it's obvious it isn't

    I would say the Double King's matching death carpet is just a "red carpet" that is uniquely tailored to welcome whomever is entering the room, as if their arrival was expected or prepared.

    I looked at it from a different angle:
    The crowns are power
    The double king is power thirstu, but for no good reason, and even tho he already has power of his own ( his original crown ) he wants more, so he goes on to steal other people's power, the hooded individuals showing at his doorstep are not subjects from other kingdoms, but rather a representation of his sins queuing up at his doorstep, and him trying to put a mouse trap when the rats show up is him trying to do a half assed solution to make his sins go away, like putting tape on a breaking dam, eventually in his chase for power, he is tricked by the bird into thinking it has a crown, but it does not, and while chasing it down, he becomes insane, and at the end he is unable to destinguish his own power from another person's "his finger" and thus cuts it off.
    The message of the story would be that seeking power just for the sake of it without putting it to good use is meaningless and long term, dangerous. Like having a flamethrower made out of paper

    • @bestaround3323
      @bestaround3323 Před rokem

      Yeah, a flamethrower out of paper wouldn't be able to hold the fuel all that well so it wouldn't really work.

    I think I can explain the "extra hand"
    Watching the Double King, it seems he has four hands. Two he uses for normal hands, and two he uses for feet (but can use as hands as well)
    In the scene where he cuts off his finger you can count four hands. One holding down the other, the one off to the side (the "foot"), and the one with the knife.
    It sort of seems to imply he's naturally a quadruped, though if all his hands were feet it might make more sense. It's an interesting character design choice and could say a lot more than what was intended.
    Somewhat unrelated, he's clearly shown with a black button up shirt (at the very beginning, and when he puts the fly crown on his finger) that disappears later on, apparently replaced with a mouth later in the underworld. Probably just a stylistic choice on that last part but it's weird how the shirt never appeared any later than the fly king scene.
    Also, the other kings and queens are depicted as how they died, but Double King is not missing a finger, or bleeding profusely. My only guess is maybe he rotated around his hands so a whole hand took the mutilated hand's spot, though I kind of doubt it.

    • @esper4605
      @esper4605 Před 5 lety +9

      I would be inclined to agree with you about the quadrupedal status if not for the fact that he has more digits per foot than per hand.

    This is a good video and i enjoyed watching it and listening to your theories a lot, but i personally think you're taking the story rather too literally! here's my interpretation:
    The entire story is a metaphor for addiction to a drug, represented in the story as crowns. But in this case its not about being a king or a tyrant, or even about actual power; in the double king's case, his "drug" is literally crowns, specifically three pointed crowns. When he takes the first crown, the rat king's, it slots perfectly into place and his pupils dilate, this is his first and perfect high which from this point on he is desperate to recreate. The second crown he gets is the pumpkin crown, and at first it seems to fit just like the first, but it quickly rots and fades. The third crown is the fly king's crown, much smaller than the first crown, and it doesn't satisfy him. The next crown he attempts to get, the fish king's crown, eludes him completely. All this time, every time he kills a king, a group of their people show up at his castle seeking shelter, they represent responsibilities and problems he creates on his quest for more crowns, and the fact that the double king leaves them outside represents him ignoring his responsibilities in favour of feeding his addiction for crowns. Next, he tracks down the caterpillar king, but ends up chasing the wrong person because the crown was passed down, the crown eluding him again as he goes on a wild goose chase and eventually discovers that there was no crown to find. He sees the giant crown mountain and figures there must be a crown which will satisfy his addiction there, but when he arrives all he finds is the tiny mushroom king with his round crown, which doesn't interest the king because it isn't pointy like he wants, he scratches his head with confusion because its meaningless to him, then he is totally entranced by a parrot with a plume of feathers that LOOK like a pointy crown, so he drops the mushroom crown and chases the bird with the fake crown feathers. He eventually loses the bird in a field of flowers, but by this point he is so desperate for another high that he sees the fly king's crown on his finger and cuts it off, making himself bleed to death. As he is transported to the underworld, he arrives in this horrible place filled with monsters, and it doesn't really phase him or upset him, what upsets him is when he realises he no longer has a crown at all, he has been separated from his drug that he craves so much. he is shown the way to the royal banquet, and is immediately overcome with jealousy that the king of death has a crown which he likes, so he tries everything to get it, eventually flying into a rage because he is being refused his drug, and isnt even allowed to make a fake crown of his own. finally, those around him see that he isn't going to change, and the king of death gives him his crown to calm him down, since hes quite literally ruining the party for everyone else. He runs out the door with the crown and jumps into the void, because he would rather be alone with his drug than face the responsibilities of his action.
    BUT HEY, THATS JUST A THEORY

  • @uncledubpowermetal
    @uncledubpowermetal Před 6 lety +5

    I find a few more subtleties in here; thencave people seem to resemble him and perhaps the reason they hid in caves is because they the know what the king is like. I also think perhaps the fish king was not the king at all but the crab was the king.

    • @moondewan
      @moondewan Před 2 lety +2

      The fish was the king because it was holding the golden staff and not the crab. Also the fish was the one transported to the king part of the underworld meaning it is the king.

    I love that you keep remaking this video... just... seeing a video I liked become better is so... I dunno it's just good, I'm not saying that everyone works agree with just remaking the same content over and over but I do appreciate this one since it's more watchable then the previous version. Also thanks for your insight on this animation, I have a whole knew way too watch it now, which is cool.

  • @kewlkrew100
    @kewlkrew100 Před 6 lety +12

    I don't think there is much meaning to this animation. There is a lot of DETAIL sure, it's actually very dense with information, but I wouldn't say there is a meaning. The king just wants more crowns. He doesn't even give a fuck about being a king, he just wants crowns.

    I would say that the cockatoo serves as the official initiation into his own madness. That once he has everything even him self is subjected treason. Even more so at “the last feast” he eats with his fellow fallen and the world continues to turn as he fades to obscurity. In a way we are all double king 🙏 ✨ 😂

    Interesting , about the cave dwellers ......they DO have identical eyes and hands as the King .
    As far as the robes matching the carpet ........you have an interesting idea .
    My take was .....he entered the Underworld through a door , the exact same shape as his body , and his path matched the robes , as you said .......perhaps , one enters the land of the dead , on a path made ONLY for them .
    As far as Felix saying there was no intention for deeper meaning .......to this I say .......
    Consider , that the stream of consciousness , is often the very means by which , ideas or meaning are manifest in ALL forms of expression ........
    Often WITHOUT the intention , or awareness of the artist .
