On the first day of our trip of Gangtok, we began our day at the well-known M G Marg in Gangtok. Due to the inclement weather, we were unable to carry out our plan for the day, which was to enjoy the ropeway in Gangtok city. Instead, we chose to tour the city on foot. We saw some lovely valleys and viewpoints, and we had lunch at a restaurant with a gorgeous view. We went shopping in the Gangtok Lal Bazar in the evening. The experience of exploring Gangtok on a wet day was wonderful.

The capital and most populated city of the Indian state of Sikkim is Gangtok, which is also a city and municipality. It serves as the Gangtok District's administrative center. Sikkim made the decision to continue as an independent monarchy with Gangtok as its capital when India gained independence from the British Empire in 1947. Gangtok continued to serve as Sikkim's state capital even after the state united with India in 1975.
The primary hub for Sikkim tourism is Gangtok. The two busiest travel seasons are the summer and spring. Many people who live in Gangtok work in or own hotels and restaurants, and many more are directly and indirectly employed in the tourism sector. In Gangtok, the Mahatma Gandhi Marg and Lal Market are well-known commercial and tourism destinations.
The centre of Gangtok and its most active area is M G Marg. With several stores, restaurants, and hotels lining both sides, it serves as the state capital's main shopping district. The best place for tourists to shop is on M G Marg, large open mall or boulevard area that is regarded as the heart of the city. This is a wonderful location for a leisurely stroll or to simply relax on the benches and soak in the unique atmosphere.
The cleanliness of this roughly one kilometer length of road is the first thing that one observes. The words "Welcome to M G Marg, Spit and Litter Free Zone" are posted on signs all throughout the place. There are no vehicles, smoke, or trash anywhere in the area. Vehicles are not permitted in this zone; it is a pedestrian-only area. In accordance with the government's green policy, the buildings in Gangtok on each side of MG Road are painted green. The Gangtok Food and Culture Festival, an event hosted here every December and attended by gourmets from all over, is another thing that makes this location famous.
Lal Bazaar, where local farmers from the Gangtok area gather to sell their wares, captures the actual brilliant colour of Sikkim. The majority of the hotels in the area of Gangtok are within walking distance of Lal Bazaar, which is situated just beneath M.G. Marg. The Khangchendzonga Shopping Plaza, a modernised version of the Old Market, was built there. In 1956, the market was first constructed and given the name J. Lal in honour of the Chogyal Dewan. Vegetable businesses make up the entire first floor of the building, while clothing shops primarily occupy the second and third floors. It is the perfect location for purchasing everyday necessities and local products from local vendors.
