      He also knocked out the 2 guys who went to WAR with the Goats. Reyes vs Jones and Maldonado vs Fedor were both controversial decisions and if you ask anyone Fedor and Jones are the Goats of MMA. Jiri knocked out Reyes and Maldonado cold. After that anything but a title shot would just be wasting talent.

    22:30 that’s exactly the point. Rizin, the organization Jiri fought in, is the biggest MMA promotion in Japan.
    They host some of the best non-ufc fighters in the world. Because of Jiri’s success in Rizin, he gained a reputation and became one of the UFC’s biggest free agent signings in the last few years.
    That, is why he got a title fight after 2 wins in the UFC. He already beat fighters in Rizin that are arguably UFC caliber already, and then went and SMOKED, 2 of top #15 ranked UFC light heavyweights.
    One of them (Dominick Reyes) having had given Jon Jones his toughest fight of his career.

      Rizin is good but not that good man, don't lie, they went on to go like 9-2 in the bellator vs rizin card, and I'm not sure if bellator is even the second best promotion knowing the talent in One

  • @Swurv
    @Swurv Před 5 měsíci +17

    Basically because he rose up in another famous MMA organization and faced good competition outside of the UFC in the biggest MMA organization in Europe, Rizin, it was much easier to get a titleshot, especially since Jones left the Light Heavyweight division and at the time, there werent many contenders. When you come from an already established MMA organization its much easier to get a titleshot. Love the vids keep up the great work!!

      Rizin is in Japan and used to be top 3 organization on the world. Back at Czech republic he fought in GCF which was probably best MMA organization in Czech at that time, but MMA as such was pretty much unkown to general public in our country, so even the organization wasn’t on a high proficiency level. Still it was probably perfect for him to test his early abilities and gain some experience and confidence.

    Dominick Reyes was a 2 time light heavyweight belt challenger and the toughest fight of Jon jones’ career. By beating him Jiri got the opportunity to fight for the belt. It’s not that he just had 2 fights before a shot at the belt but the people he beat. Alex Pereira also got fast tracked for a title shot because of his accomplishments in kickboxing and because he beat top ranked fighters and former champions in the few fights he had before his title shot. Most mma fighters who have a bunch of wins but haven’t got a title shot are in that position because the people they beat weren’t top ranked fighters

  • @VeanBain

    At the time the two guys he first fought in the UFC were both in the top 15 of light heavyweights. Don’t worry Mookie your right, but that’s what made the two fights so crazy. Ozdemir (the 1st guy) was ranked 10, and Dominick Reyes was 3rd. And you saw how he ended Reyes 😬. When they saw him smoke 2 of the best guys in the division, they let him skip the line.

    He was a big name coming from Rizin to the UFC so him taking out two top LHW contenders in spectacular fashion was more than enough for a shot and then he proved he deserved the opportunity by taking out Glover (one of the UFCs toughest) in a fight of the year title fight win . Def doesn’t happen for everyone but his fast rise was well deserved

    You are correct - he wanted to get ready in other league before he steps into the UFC, he already had offer to come to the UFC few years earlier before he came but he declined.
    They are not small leagues - if you are champ in one of those leagues you are basicly in top 10 in the world.
    Pro competition is pro competition .....
    That's why Jiri got to fight Volkan in his debut that was ranked 7 place , after he won he should fought Rakic N5 but Rakic declined to fight lower rank so he got Reyes instead N3
    and Dana White said before the fight that winner gets tittle shot.

    @dunsonhouse Jiří received an offer from the UFC already in 2016, but he turned it down on the advice of the coaches, saying that he would first win the title in the RIZIN. Which it did, and the second offer from the UFC already included a title shot within 3-4 fights.

  • @elcrucius
    @elcrucius Před 5 měsíci

    To clear up the confusion about UFC policy on title shots a lil more, the reason it works a little different than boxing (especially in this case) was cuz he was a proven champion outside the UFC and he came into the UFC and immediately fought two of the toughest ranked UFC contenders the division had at the time which basically earned him the title shot quickly. For a boxing analogy, imagine Ngannou had came in and beat Joshua and Wilder in his first two fights. That would 100% earn him a legit title shot with Fury. The UFC usually makes their title contenders earn their title shots a lot more. Usually.
