    Having used a number of these plugins myself, i can say i'm still thoroughly impressed by what you can get for free compared to a number of the paid VSTs i own. What i'm very much unimpressed by are those IRs. Most of them sound like the kind of thing you'd get preinstalled in a Mooer multiFX unit from 2016. Despite already 18,600 IRs, i don't feel the need to add these to my collection.

    Perfect timing, I was just looking into doing some recording again. Hesitant to spend any money since all the previous gear n software i bought won’t even work on a modern pc. At least with an amp it’ll still work a decade later.

    Also, precision drive works surprisingly well as a boost or od for bass. Turn up the gain and either put it in front of the sansamp, or run it in parallel with the gain cranked.

    What i kept hearing in my head during all this, was that these wouldn't be the star of the show. However, they are absolutely the perfect thing for adding to a mix for that extra umph. For instance, that capture that feels a little empty if you will. Nice clean, articulate, and perfect, but still lacking that nastiness. When adding that nastiness to the original track, goes way off course. Add another track and use one of these, and at a lower level, just to add that spice...

    If I recall, for the Precision Drive, the Q for the tone knob is more aggressive than on a standard tube screamer, blues driver, or SD-1, and the pedal has more gain on tap than a traditional tube screamer, to point putting it in front of an edge of breakup amp makes full on distortion if the attack is all the way down and the volume and gain are both above noon. That makes it better than any other overdrive and also make it able to pull double duty into the territory of a basic 3 knob, medium gain distortion pedal, and THEN you add the gate.

  • @squeezenor
    @squeezenor Před rokem +1

    How funny this show up now- I downloaded the free nembrini pedals last weekend. And yeah, just like their amps, they're perfectly fine but not better than what I'm already using (softube's amp room, usually). Didn't connect with the klon at all; wasn't bringing anything new to the table for me. The TS and rat were cool (as metal boosts), but the softube ones were just a bit more aggressive and alive.
    I also tried their Quinta and that thing is a mess, but still kinda fun. The pitch shifter in amplitube beat it easily, though it only gives you one extra note, while the Quinta can do three. But it has plenty of artifacts and latency of you're into that.

    Pretty awesome stuff. I like the Nalex Amplex quite a lot. It's a quick tone box that gets there with minimal tweaking.
    Definitely have a look at TrueSim at some point, it's been improved and there's quite a few circuits for it.
    The Nembrini stuff I can take it or leave it. Honestly Mercuriall and Ignite have better stuff. I've not yet found a convincing Rat pedal in plug format. The NDSP Gojira's Dirt pedal gets most of the way there though.
    For Klon stuff I like the ChowDsp ChowCentaur. Has a standard analog modeled mode and a neural net trained mode. Use the neural mode for lower noise. Pretty awesome.
    Cheers Ryan

    The BOD sounds nothing like the Tech21 SansAmp BDDI. The low end is COMPLETELY off, as is the case of pretty much all bass plugins I've tried along the years. I mean, it's free and can be useful, but people shouldn't dismiss the real BDDI if they don't like the BOD tone. In my opinion bass modelling haven't got much better since the original Line6 Bass POD, which is a bummer.

    • @bradylasserre9320
      @bradylasserre9320 Před rokem +1

      I disagree. I have an original SansAmp BD and I think think it does the almost synthesized bass thing incredibly well. I'd be more than happy with using it when I'm too lazy to hook up the actual pedal.

    • @ok-tchau
      @ok-tchau Před rokem +1

      @@bradylasserre9320 My experience has been completely different. I also have the original BDDI and have been looking for a digital alternative for decades, because I have zero fetish with analog gear and reamping things is a tedious task. At least the BDDI have phantom power, so it's a bit more convenient than my other preamps. When I can't reamp I use the paid Darkglass plugin, which sounds ok but I'm not sure if it's faithfull to the real B7K Ultra. I have the regular B7K and it sounds very different, the drive knob is much more aggressive than the plugin, but this might be the case with the Ultra version.

    • @bradylasserre9320
      @bradylasserre9320 Před rokem

      Ever try the Helix BDDI? While it (in my opinion) isn't as close as the mentioned freeware, it has a very nice sound.
