Sound is the vibration in air, so the bigger your auricles are the better you will hear. However they are just that, they do not contribute to the actual process of "decoding" these sound waves. The part of the ear responsible for that is the eardrum which basically functions as a vibration-sensitive membrane and is located inside your head so while your "ears" may fall off, your eardrums will not. And while your ability to hear will be much worse, you will retain it and thus will be able to listen to audiobooks. Dab.
