Such a great video tutorial that you made . It's a big help for me to understand and calculate the fabric needed for my desired depth of pleats and how to calculate fabric in the whole process of pleated skirt
Thank you so much for sharing

Ok. Thanks for telling us. Chances are it would be an evening video... But let's wait and see.
Thanks ma, ❤ please is it the same calculation for kissy pleats?
I love sewing the measureing is my problem im in jamaica thanks
The calculation you made for the waist measurement divided by 3, is it for a pleat of one inch only or it can be used for up to 2 inches and more
Wow amaJin thank u so much... This trick is really important for me.... Btw I'm going to sewing this 1st time....
Hi mam,
I've a fabric of 3.5 metre(140 inch). I want to stitch a box pleated skirt with waist measurement of 35 inch. How much do i need to take measurement for each box pleat.
Can you please guide me
Hi Janet from Jamaica 🇯🇲 good day I a am happy for this tutorial but how I cut a button front skirt with one inch pleat
💕💕💕
I just started learning to sew and I was thinking about this and i came across your video. Thanks for sharing. Can the two excess inches be used for the zip?
Hi ma'am tnq u sooo much ma'am since from 2020 I am search for pleats calculation method I got best calculation in your class
Wow! I am happy I could help. I give additional details in the follow up video here: czcams.com/video/T1GZ2Gj3Ytw/video.html you can take a look
Thanks for this video my daughter needed a school uniform and i wanted to TRY to make 1 for her.
Thank you so much. Can we use this technique for calculating the amount of fabric required for box pleats also?
You're welcome! Yes you can. But we have another tutorial specifically for box pleats. You can view that one also
Hi what would be the calculation for 2” pleats.
For 1 pleat that is 2” we would need 6” of fabric
So shud we multiply waist * 6 ?
Hi Cynthia. Yes, that's correct. Remember to add sewing allowance for seams.
Thanks, how do u calculate 38 hips pls
Hey Hilda. No need to calculate hip measurement when making a pleated skirt, because of the excess fabric, it's guaranteed to be wider than your hip
I just discovered your channel and loved your videos ❤❤ just a small note , the music is louder than your voice n it would be better if you turn it down a little
Hi Sophie. Happy you're here! Thanks for the heads up. We've already made the adjustment in our recent videos. So there's no music during the tutorial.
Pls I have a question, " How did you get the 36"?
Hi Yaa Saah, Can you be more specific? Or perhaps you can indicate the time in the video you're referring to.
Well-detailed tutorial, I understood everything except the part you divided 86 by 36, My question now is how you got the 36 you divided with the 86
Hi Obiefule! 36 Inches make 1 yard. So dividing the 86 by 36 was to determine how many yards we would get in 86 inches.
36 inches equals 1 yard. So this is to find out how many yards of fabric you will need.
Hiiii, what would be the side width ? That’s what I’m confused about
Hey Deijah, no problem! We're to help. You'd have to give some details though. What are you referring to as the 'side width '?
@@rgieasysewings the skirt length. My waist is 36in, Would that be my judgment on how short I want it to be right ?
@@deijah2228 Mmmmm. I'm a little unclear about your question but I'll do my best to explain. In body measurements, 'width' refers to measurement around areas. For example, waist, hip, and bust. For length, you measure from top to bottom. For example waist to knee or knee to ankle. Your waist measurement is not the judgment for the length of the skirt. The length depends on your preference. So for that, measure from your waist toward the floor. stop at the length you would like. Could be the floor, your knee, below the knee above the knee, wherever. It's your preference. Hope this was helpful.
How do you calculate the amount of pleats that are needed?
Hi Ray, to do that you would divide the waist measurement by the width of the pleat. So, if the waist measurement is 28" and each pleat needs to be 2" wide. 28/2= 14. So you would need 14 2" pleats for a 28" waist. Hope you understand
I have a question what if the skirt or dress already has the pleated but the skirt or dress is too long and you just want to make it shorter. If you cut it and sew it will that damage or lose it pleated
Hi Bailey. No, cutting and sewing will not cause the skirt to lose the pleats. When you're done, just lay the pleats properly (you can use straight pins to hold them in place) and iron the skirt.
@@rgieasysewings Can you do a video on this subject because no one had made a video on it. You search on youtube there are tons and tons on how to make a pleated skirt but not a single one of them teach you on how to make a it shorter without damage or losing it's pleated
@@baileytsukino2222 ok. No problem. We will do one in a few weeks God's willing. Just added it to our list.
This is a great tutorial if i want 2" pleats and my waist is 30 I know I divide by 2 so I would have 15 2" pleats but do I still multiply by 3
Thanks. Yes you should still multiply by 3. The measurement per pleat would be 2 X 2 X 2
@@rgieasysewings Thanks so it means that my fabric would be 90" plus seam allowance for a 30" waist
Shouldn't it be 30 ×6. Since you said every 1 Inch pleat equals 3 inches. Correct me if I'm wrong please.@@rgieasysewings
Hi hi. Remember it's 30". There are 30 1" in 30. You would multiply each of those 1" by 3, hence 30" x 3. I tried to simplify it... hope it makes sense.
Get job
This was great and exactly what I was looking for. Could find how to make pleats, but not how to calculate the fabric -- and you showed us how so easily! Thank you.
You're welcome. Il truly happy the video As helpful to you.
