  • *Disclaimer gas stove top ranges can be dangerous, tampering with them may result in fire, injury, or even death! Use this information at your own risk!
    Quick Fix: Simply Unplug the stove top igniters until the water evaporates if your certain they are clean.
    Unplug the igniters
    Clean Igniters with a quick evaporating degreaser
    (Rubbing Alcohol is a strong suggestion)
    Wait until they dry
    (could take several hours)
    Put back together!
    All of the igniters on your stove top range will spark when they get wet.
    Be careful when cleaning them. If you did not get your igniters wet, they may need to be replaced or fixed by a professional.
    Here are links to the more detailed guide, it also addresses other appliances. Scroll to the center of the page for stovetop ranges.

    You are the ONLY one that informs us that ALL igniters will spark even if only one is wet or dirty. One of my burner was never used and it also sparked. Without your comment, I might have replaced the whole stove. A through cleaning plus an OVERNIGHT wait did the trick. Thanks.

    Excellent and detailed video that actually worked for me. I have a premier stove that has worked great for the past 8 years then today when we turned on the burner the igniter would not stop clicking even though the fire was lit. I turned of the power to the stove, cleaned the igniters with rubbing alcohol and dried with a hair dryer for about 10 minutes. Works like new!

    Okay while watching a thriller movie alone in the family room @2am, I started to hear a flickering sound just few meters away from me. Kinda funny, I thought the movie was playing on me and I was getting scared. But long story short, it was the stove. I am calling the serviceman early morning but I thought of doing it myself through CZcams and lo! I found your video. I followed everything and it was pure magic. Now I can finish watching the movie. I have a LG gas range and heard this clicking coming from all the burners on the stove and first thing to mind was, oh great, have to phone for service. Plus you can’t buy parts for LG appliances in Alberta, only a qualified LG service repair person can order parts. After watching your video I did spill water on one of the burner. When I pulled the covers off I noticed that they was lots of grease splattered on the igniters. Like you said I used Q tips with acetone rubbing alcohol and all is good. Thanks for the simple effective video & saving me from an outrageous service repair bill.

    About 45 minutes ago (around 2:30am) one of my burners started clicking. Found your video (thank you for posting it, Dave!!). It was really difficult to pull out the oven to unplug it, but I did it. There is a separate gas line, so I assume it is not leaking....I don't smell any gas. It is a pilotless stove...a GE Profile 12 years old. I have no rubbing alcohol, so I'm hoping it is ok to leave it unplugged until morning when I can get to the store.

  • @dannysideris1188
    @dannysideris1188 Před 8 lety +23

    This video is INCORRECT: The sparkers are not the problem. The knob switches you turn are the problem. Water trapped under the control knob can cause constant clicking. Suppose water did get to the sparker on the stoveheads, this will STOP them from clicking and/or working at all if anything. The reason why this video still works is because while the unit is unplugged, the water coincidently dries from under the plastic knobs. For a quick solution, all you need to do is pull of the plastic control knobs for each stovehead and point a hairdryer at the knob unit switches. It may take 10-20 minutes and several sessions depending on how much water is trapped in the switch. As they dry, the clicking should slow down to a stop :)

    • @DavidParas
      @DavidParas  Před 8 lety

      +DannysWorkouts Great Estate +DannysWorkouts Great Estate Danny, I appreciate your input, but it depends on the stove top build.
      Unplugging it will normally solve the sound problem for either, but it
      takes a few hours for the water to evaporate. For my stove top, the plastic nob was completely
      dry. The stove was being cleaned and water was poured into the area
      where the igniter was. I consulted a few experts, and the video is what
      they suggested. The continual sparking is a fail safe so there isn't a
      gas explosion if the gas is accidentally left on or faulty. Some of the
      newer stove tops are more sensitive, but in most it is just moisture near the igniter.
      It could also be that when you take the knob off more air flow is
      getting to the whole area under the stove and drying it more quickly.
      There are no raw wires near the control knob, but there are raw wires at the igniter. If the stove top is set up like the one in this video, taking the plastic knobs
      off won't fix the problem czcams.com/video/SaNzFOx7vIM/video.html.
      It really depends on your stove top, the manner I suggested in the video
      will work for all stove tops, not just ones with the knobs top side. Also the ignters may spark just because they are dirty, not wet. If that is the case your method will not do you any good.

    • @DavidParas
      @DavidParas  Před 8 lety +3

      +Greg Dahlen It's a fail safe to prevent a gas explosion. Water conducts electricity very well and acts as a bridge from the switch to the igniter, when the water dries the bridge is not longer there, the connection is no longer complete when the water dries. There is a very small space between the switch and the igniter, (when you turn the knob for the gas, you're tuning the ignter on simultaneously). When water gets in the small space between the igniter and power source it acts as if you have turned on the switch. It will click until the water evaporates. Unless of course the ignter also needs to be cleaned. I hope that clearly answers your question, let me know if not!

    I have a DCS gas cook top that would not stop igniter clicking. I cleaned the igniters and
    the burners, and replaced the re-igniter module (blue box). Did not fix
    the problem. Then I found a posting for a GE stove doing the same
    thing. Turns out there are two gas jets for each burner, a simmer
    burner on the bottom and the main burner on top. The simmer burner MUST
    light to heat up the igniter, and tell the circuit that the burner is
    lit. Then the igniter will stop clicking. If the simmer burner is NOT
    lit the re-igniter thinks the burner is off and constantly tries to
    light it. Three out of four simmer jets on my stove were clogged. I
    ordered new jet assemblies directly from Fisher and Paykel (DCS
    manufacturer), and low and behold the stove works like new.

      +Liz Goldman Liz, it should be either directly behind or directly underneath the stove. Most are very easy to access, but some builders put the plug behind the counter or in some older homes they could be directly wired into the wall. In that case the only other thing you could do would be to shut off the circuit breaker to your kitchen, which I would not recommend doing unless you know what you are doing. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

    Ok I cleaned the ignites and wanted to know what If waiting really matters. Cause I didn't wait and it still clicks. Do I need to clean them again and then wait overnight or should I just wait several hours.

    • @DavidParas
      @DavidParas  Před 6 lety

      Anzil - it should quit clicking as soon as the igniters are dry, they click because it's a fail safe to prevent a gas explosion if there is a gas leak. Once the igniters are dry the clicking should stop. It's perfectly fine to continue to use the stove top right after - they should only need cleaned once.
      Use the stove could make them dry faster, but if you cleaned them really well and the clicking doesn't stop after around 24 hours of drying then it's likely a different problem altogether.
      If that's the case, I would suggest a repair person, it could be one of the igniter is bad, it could be corrosion under the igniter, there are many different things to trouble shoot if this doesn't solve the issue for you. I wish I could be of more help, but I'm not a stove top repair man and many stoves can be vastly different than each other.
      I can say for my stove, years later I had another issue with it and because the stove top was attached to the countertop I was unable to fix it myself and ended up opting to replace the entire stove.
      You could also try calling these guys www.appliancepartspros.com/ - they have helped me resolve some issues over the phone - I was going to purchase a part I thought I needed and they walked me through the repair over the phone, I ended up not needing the part. They didn't charge anything for it either, I couldn't recommend them enough.

    Another cause is the jet in the center of the eye can be clogged. If enough gas doesn't come out of it and the flame not reach the little pointy thing, the stove attempts to relight....causing the sparking click. I had to remove the jet, ream it clean with a sewing needle and re-install to get mine to stop. You'll see this happen more when the gas burner is turned to low/simmer.

      At this point - I would suggest calling a technician...there could be a few different things that might be wrong and I don't know what to suggest if drying it didn't work - I do have to say the same thing recently happened to my mothers stove top so I might have an answer in a few days but can't promise anything - it likely needs to be replaced by a technician - or at least someone familiar with repairing stove tops...Sorry I can't be of more help!

    When you turn on a burner, an electronic igniter generates a spark that ignites gas going to the burner. Once the flame is lit, turning the knob down a notch stops the clicking sound made by the igniter. Will the igniter burn out if left on to long?

      +philanna38 They can burn out and or just go bad overtime but they are pretty durable. They are made to last every day use for a number of years. There are commercial ones that you should use if it's going to be used all day all the time that will be more durable and last longer.

    In my case I spilled water that made it under the knobs and apparently got water in one of the sensors surrounding the valve. After cleaning everything and trying to dry it out it would still spark randomly now and again. I finally had to replace the wiring harness that connects the four valves to the ignitor control module. It was not overly complicated and cost me a little over $40. problem solved.

      I'm glad you got it fixed, good to know about the wiring harness :)
