7 BRAVE Battle Droids Who DESERTED the Separatists & FELT EMOTIONS - Star Wars

- During the Clone Wars, many battle droids fought and died for the separatist alliance, with most of their actions being programmed by the Central separarist computer. Some Battle droids however, were able to break free from the central computer, and gain full control over their actions, including being able to feel strong emotions and desert the Separatist army.
Number 1. Mister Bones.
Once the Clone Wars came to a swift end with the destruction of the Separatist council and the decimation of the Jedi Order through Order 66, all battle droid production factories were ordered to stop production immediately, leaving them dormant for many years. As the time of the Empire came however, one Rebel fighter was able to scavenge enough spare parts from an old separatist droid factory, allowing him to create one of the most murderous, destructive and violent B1 battle droids to ever grace the galaxy. His name was Mister Bones. Mister Bones’ creator, Temmin Wexley, painted the murderous battle droid Red and black, and attached bones from dead birds and fish to his mechanical limbs. On top of this, Wexley attached a vibroblade to one of Mr. Bones’ limbs, and also replaced half of his head with a telescoping red eye, before sharpening Mister Bones’ nose down to a very fine point, intended to resemble a menacing bird of prey.
Because Temmin Wexley had no friends and was bullied by those around him, Mister Bones became a very close friend with the boy. The crazy B-1 unit protected Temmin from a pack of bounty hunters, and After the Battle of Endor, Mister Bones even helped to rescue New Republic Starpilot, Wedge Antilles from Rae Sloane, of the imperial Remnant.
Following this, Mister Bones also helped to incite a rebellion on the planet Akiva, before trying to kill Han Solo not long after, believing he was a threat to his master. He even helped to liberate a group of Wookie Slaves, including Chewbacca from the horrid prison on Kashyyk known as Ashmead’s lock. Finally, Mister Bones served at the battle of Jakku, chopping many sandtroopers to pieces, before tragically being killed by friendly fire from new Republic A-wing fighters, while protecting his master. Number 2. B1-CC14
B1-CC14 was a B1 battle droid created by the separatists for the purpose of guarding prison transports. After Count Dooku ordered the kidnapping of Clone Trooper Kix because of his discovery of the inhibitor chips inside of the head of every Clone, he decided to send Kix directly to his home world of Serenno for further questioning with Darth SIdious. To do this, Kix was frozen and placed inside of a cryo stasis pod, and then loaded onto the separatist cruiser known as the Obrexta III, where he was guarded by B1-CC14.
As the Obrexta 3 was on its way to serenno, it was viciously attacked by Republic Forces, not knowing that Clone Trooper Kix was on board, leaving the separatist ship badly damaged on all sides.
Realizing that the ship was in absolutely no shape to make it all the way to Serenno, B1-CC14 disobeyed his orders from Count Dooku to take Kix to serreno, and instead activated the ship’s emergency distress beacon and hyper drive and jumping into hyperspace without calculations. It is still unknown why this B-1 Battle droid disobeyed his orders to this day, but it was probably due to some small malfunction.
After the swift hyperspace jump was completed, the ship arrived at the dusty atmosphere of a desert planet known as Ponemah Terminal, where it burned up and crashed into the sandy surface, leaving Clone Trooper Kix, along with himself stranded on the planet for the next 50 years, until they were discovered by the Crimson Corsair pirate, and his crew.
Number 3. Coppertop
During the early months of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Commander Cody and the 212th were stationed on the rocky planet of Bogoa, fighting against the huge hordes of droid forces there. While on their mission , Commander Cody noticed something incredibly unusual about one of the enemy B1-Battle droids. This B-1 Battle droid was completely friendly to the Clone forces and even provided medical attention to one of Cody’s injured brothers.
After noticing this, Cody carries his injured brother back to their camp, and Obi-Wan asks Coppertop then asks coppertop, if you’ve turned your back on life as a ruthless killing machine, what are your primary protocols”. Coppertop then awesomely responds, saying “One. to live free. Two. to protect the weak. And three. Rescue strays”. Obi-Wan is genuinely shocked and confused by this, because these are the exact opposite traits to the standard B-1 battle droid units. Because of this, he fought alongside the 212th and helped them in combat against Asajj Ventress. - Zábava

If you think about it, the separatists droids had a really tragic history. They were only created with the objective of killing as many beings as possible and, despite being machines, they were conscious beings and had their own personalities. And after 3 years of war, most of them were just shutted down without receiving any award.
not to mention they were constantly being abused by general grievous wish the droids would come back into the star wars continuity

You know B1s with some actual independence would probably have been an actual effective military force worth there weight in credits as opposed to being a force of mass produced mechanised 3 stooges. If these units are anything to go by

Yeah putting some actual independance would have made them really effective and worth their weight in credits, and commando driods are a result of this idea.
One problem.
Money, and the Trade federation well enormously wealthy were sure as hell tight on money when it came to things such as Quality. B-1s were literally the bare bones of having a effective disposable army of cheap weapons. B-1's were cheap, effective in numbers, and could be built quickly and use anything the trade federation had. They were also fairly intelligent to begin with but effectively dumb down by programming to make them easy to command.
Canonically B1s were genuinely really good at their job originally but the massive amount of bloatware and lack of proper maintanance just lead to them basically running out of computing power and/or memory.

I love that without their predetermined programming, Battle Droids are either unstoppable killing machines, or friendly and kind. Makes you really wonder what it would be like if the Droids weren't shackled to their shitty programming.
The animated series Resistance had a B1 reprogrammed as a squad leader for for B2s, used as security for the main group.

I think it’s possible B1-CC14 wasn’t technically disobeying orders. If the intention was to keep Kicks alive until he could be questioned, maybe the droid saw that as a better method of keeping him alive than to continue with the predetermined path. Idk, just a thought…
I feel bad for Nunzix, imagine living your whole- very long life, sitting out the entire rebellion only to decided to make a stand against their knock off counterpart, serve as a spy expertly, and have your fucking mind re-programed on the fly by the people you were trying to help- only to die because of it. Its sickening.
Let’s just hope someone in discovers him many years later and fixes him up.

I always love the star wars lore where a battle Droid gets his freedom but i wish there was cannon story of a battle Droid in a game about how many planets the separatist capture with the main battle Droid u play as and later on the game droid gets free from the separatist and where he live his life at the end of the clone wars and the beginning of a new hope then well he joins the rebels and in that story will tell us the end of the droid.

General Kalani kinda counts because he refused the shut down order thinking it was a trick( it kinda was when you think about it), and stayed active with his droids
Well, in his way he didn't betray CIS. He just didn't shut down thinking it was rebel trick.
All of them feel emotions, for instance, pain, fear, cowardice (demonstrated mostly in clone wars) but also joy and unity (in the lego games)

It would be cool if there were a star wars spin-off show about a group of battle droids who managed to evade the separatist alliance and move to an uninhabited planet and form a peaceful civilization, living peacefully and happily.
Probably would only get a short run miniseries, but would be interesting to see what Faloni could do with it.

Late Clone Wars era droids got an update where they received "individual intelligence" it's part of what made them so endearing and dumb.

Lego star wars is cannon. The star scavenger from "lego star wars freemakers adeventures" is present along with the ghost crew ship from rebels in the final sieg on cidius in the final movie. Meaning roger the clone wars veteran who tought rowan how all the jedi fought, is canon.
Quite late, but Mister Bones is also in the game, unlocked with a code.
There should be more of these droids maybe even in a game or *COUGH COUGH* put one in a movie if you work in Lucasfilm *COUGH COUGH* sorry had some dust in my throat. I love B1 Battle droids and think they should be used more. Also Mr. Bones should be build into a small squad of separatist droids made to mimic Mr. Bones.

Droids like bats and farmer prove to me that they got order 66 pre-installed unlike the clones, and have the same experience as them but in reverse.
One clone who got "cured" of order 66 explained it like something else taking control of his body, but still being conscious. Like the driver being shoved into the passenger seat, but still getting in trouble for all the laws the new driver breaks. Perhaps this is what the Droids felt all the time until they "malfunctioned". Gaining full control of their bodies and thoughts, the opposite of what the clones feel when they get order-66 administered.

Crazy theory: what if the farmer B-1 was on Stewjon. Obi-WAN’s homeworld. The farmers that found hi look a lot like Obi-Wan so maybe they are his brothers.

Mr. Bones certainly puts a lot of other clankers to shame. Coppertop has the most complex behaviour I've ever seen in a B1 droid. With enough time and influence Farmer could turn an entire droid army against the separatists and the greedy Trade Federation. It's a shame we don't see those amazing droids in CGI episodes, which would have make a break from the dumb clankers.

And now Star Wars Outlaws has given us another one in the form of ND-5, a commando droid in a trenchcoat who gets into criminal antics with his human friend, the player character.
I wish we'd seen some of these guys in the clone wars
