DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, TOP Sights: Bacardi Island, Puerto Plata & Monte Cristi

- Welcome to Part 2 of the series in The Dominican Republic. This Caribbean country has the best beaches, mountains, lush green jungle, waterfalls, salt lakes, vibrant culture and beautiful colonial towns. It's really worth it to escape from the luxurious hotels and explore the country. Last time you already saw our little family settle down on the beach in hotspot Punta Cana, but not too long since we’re road tripping the entire country. We explored the natural beauty of the Samaná peninsula. We went on a whaling expedition and hiked to the most awesome waterfall El Limón. On the country's best beach we were one with nature, at Playa Rincón.
This time we visit Bacardi Island, the best bounty island in the Bay of Samaná. From there we drove along the North Coast to Puerto Plata, which is the oldest town in all of the Americas. Cristoffel Columbus first set foot on land here! We top it off in Monte Cristi, close to the border with Haiti. The climate changes instantly as we see sand dunes and rocks everywhere. On El Morro we have the best views of the West in the Dominican Republic.
After this video you'll see us cruise the South Coast of the Dominican Republic. We’ll explore the salt mines in Salinas, enjoy freshly caught fish in Barahona and dive into the bluest waters of Bahía de las Águilas. Of course we'll also visit the Dominican capital Santo Domingo on the way.
Our trip to the Dominican Republic is part of a great tour along all the Caribbean islands. We'll continue island hopping all the way down to Trinidad and Tobago. First you'll see us cruising around the Dominican Republic for another two weeks. Next up will be Puerto Rico, Saint Martin, Anguilla, Saint Barth, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago.

Ningunos de eso lugares se llaman isla Bacardi, en cayó levantando simplemente se firmó un comercial de ron Bacardi, y por eso muchas personas decían las islas del comercial de Bacardi.
I explained this in the video, but I guess you didn’t see that. No not the official name of course 😝 but the locals will have signs saying Bacardi Island. I have visited multiple times and I must say, lately Cayo Levantado is becoming the better known name.. the first time I visited they all called it Bacardi Island.
Si vas a Google maps y pones “Isla Bacardi” te lleva a la isla, so eso quiere decir que ambos nombres son aceptados

We’ve been to most of these places, but there are better places. We love the nature, the more pure places. At Bahia de las Águilas is the best beach 😍
Seems that the current turmoil in Hiati is not affecting life/tourism in the Dominican Republic?
I don’t know. It’s a different situation now. We didn’t ever consider crossing the border even before this situation.. but now, you wouldn’t even wanna go anywhere near. Let’s hope and pray Haiti will have a brighter future one day.. 😢
