"Killing Me Softly" (Roberta Flack/The Fugees) - 1940s Swing Cover by Robyn Adele Anderson
All my videos are live, using one take. Arranged by Robyn Adele Anderson - Hudba
I am 68 years old and think you are as good a female singer as I have ever heard !
HOW… How in the world did you elevate this incredible song to an entirely new level? EXCELLENTLY Done!
THIS LADY CAN SING IM IN LOVE WITH HER VOICE
this woman is killing me swifty, aggressively and violently with her level of beauty, grace, and intellegence; let's not even mention her silk vocals
Boku No Nico Agree in every sense with you. Robyn is flawless.
kieran couldn’t have said it better!
How it is said here in Brazil "Você tirou as palavras da minha boca"
You know about her intelligence? Have you spoken to her at all in order to gauge that particular trait?
Yep, I've been dead for like a year now.
Robyn is one of my favorite performers from Postmodern Jukebox -- she's the reason I began listening to them.
Whenever I listen to Robyn sing, I feel like I'm in a dark smokey club, rubbing elbows with gangsters, movie stars, and politicians, everyone hoping The Rat Pack makes an appearance.
YES !!!!
watching Georgia play that bass is beautifully hypnotic.
lOVE aDELE
Why has it taken me 60 years to discover this goddess of a woman?
If any singer can turn a sad song on its head, transform it from a musical downer to an "upper," then Robyn Adele Anderson is surely one for the job. Who can forget Robyn's jaunty interpretation of "Careless Whisper?" Now, we have Robyn's take on this famous song of sad recollection. Here, our little songbird plays a character who refuses to "die" softly. Rather, she seems to rejoice in recalling the little death of a catharsis which has left her feeling liberated and triumphant: someone else (she realizes) has known her pain and has survived the experience to sing about it, as will Robyn's character. Good ol' Fred Nietzsche once observed: “What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.” In her jazz interpretation of this standard, Robyn portrays a character who is no pity package --- making this well performed "cover" both interesting and justifiable.
+Woodbridge Little Band nice. i wish Miss Robyn would read this,
+steve cuzz --- Thank you for your support!
AGREED
I'll just leave this here ^~^
With @WoodbridgeLittleBand's comment in mind, it reminded me of the French idea, "Le Petite Mort". ;) Have a nice day ^~^
I'm think you miss the point. The original was not sad at all, but the voice of an impassioned lover enthralled, ever intertwined, with her mate.
Its late night, droplets from the rain are running down the glass panels, lighted city skyline distorted through THE droplets, and the lovers on the middle of the floor locked eyes to eyes in an embrace, love making so slow and intense it hurts.
That's the original.
Robyn, you are much more talented than the people being played on radio today! A true superstar.
I would die for "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" :D
Powi now so would I
Murilo Da Silva Let's make a huge campaign "CGYOOMH by Robyn Adele Andersone" :D Like... both of us...
Powi I'd totally support that, she may hear us, who knows Lol haha
Murilo Da Silva OK, I'll write a cheesy comment on a T-shirt then - don't know how it will help though but - we'll see :D
nah-nah-nah 🎵👍
She belts out an amazing sound with no effort, just doesn’t get more beautiful than this!
i mean you can tell she's busting her ass actually, but still ya very impressive
never thought my search for a jazz version of this song would come to an end
Miss you with PMJ, So happy you're still putting these covers out.
is she one of the Addams family?
If you mean she pretty like Morticia, I guess so!
From when RF introduced this song in the '70s, and then in the '80s by The Fugees, I aways imagined it being performed in a swing tempo but never heard it done that way until today. Totally worth waiting for. Thank you so much Robyn Adele. You really nailed it for me.
The Fugees were _well_ into the '90s - 1996, to be exact.
Bravo Georgia Weber for the solo bass playing. It is one for glory!
Wow that middle section! I love the Billy Joel vibe of it, like his 70's stuff. And of course Robyn's vocal is killing it as always! The song is a classic and this is a powerful version.
Holy shit this was 6yrs ago
Time flies when you're listening to good music
I cant get over this song, listened to it 20 times in a row
Love the way this lady sings! That little hip swing and those eyes!
Aw, dat bass girl; Jesus! :D
Err.... I mean, good skills :')
+Il Venir LOL thanks!
Yeah I know but I called her already. Get yer own!😀
Fab cover of “the ballad of Don McLean” originally composed by Lori Lieberman after she reluctantly went to one of his early shows and wrote the lyrics about how he made her feel. A little known fact in “post modern” world!!
I can't get enough of this video. I have to listen to it every single day. Robyn gifts us with the quintessence of talent, style and beauty.
GAAAH! One of my all time favorite songs since I was a kid listening to the 45 on my parent's record player!!! I LOVE this!
I love you Robyn Adele!!!
The Best version I know
They say it ain't don't mean a thing if it don't got that swing. You got dat swing. Y'all kicked ass on this!
I love the Lauren Hill/The Fugees cover of "Killing me softly". With that being said, I absolutely adore this style and flavor of this cover!
I was in the 10th grade when this song first came out. It's the song I still equate with the first girl I ever fell in love with. Even sung in this genre, the song is still great and doesn't lose anything.
You got my vote Robyn . What a breath of fresh air , an escape from what passes for music these days .
My favorites are the ones like this, where you take an oldie and do it in another old time style. The inventiveness in all of your song covers is unparalleled, great video as always.
God bless you Robyn
The eternal diva of PMJ! Robyn A. Anderson rules!
Hi All, Robyn just gets better and better; Talent = Robyn.
Excellent no matter who she is with. The lady stands on her own.
I come back to this and don't know if it's her voice or eyes that draws me back again.
I can't stop thinking about killing stalking bruh

Song I had to learn in English class ten years ago with my best teacher ever !!!! Thank you for all the memories :)
How could 700 people dislike this? The lighting?
Just love it! You are great 👍
This song always brings my vikings to tears. And no one's even going to get that reference.
Week 2: Liesmith's reference is still over our heads. Tacoma1993 suspects it may be an obscure joke, but gets frustrated each passing day. Rumor has it he wakes up everyday at exactly 4:35AM PST screaming "FML!!!"
Everworld!
+Liesmith No one has read that! (But it's soooooooo good! A real shame it never gets around.)
Liesmith This comment convinced me to read it
Hacker doge samurai dinossauro megazord felps XD you were already convinced
Ok, I just found Robyn's page through an acquaintance. I have seen her on PMJ videos before and admire her work and vocal talent. But... And there's always a but with an opinion:
I think this song was written to be sung with the emotion that Roberta Flack originally had and covers like the one Alyona Yarushina convey. It's ok to feel sad and hurt sometimes. That's why the song writers write songs that convey happiness, sadness, anger and any other emotions that we feel as humans.
I want to feel sad when I am sad and maybe cry to let that emotion run its course. I like to feel happy when I'm happy and laugh. Anger, the same thing.
This, by no means, is meant to cast shade on Robyn. As it takes talent to arrange a song in a completely different style. And having found Robyn's channel, I will continue to explore her talents. But, I will always have a "soft" spot for the original feeling of Roberta's "Killing Me Softly".
What a wonderfull voice she has. She's my favorite singer today
Wow just wow
Thank you
I love her voice she makes the most difficult covers possible. you go girl
Wow! Just wow...
Beautiful voice!!!! excellent arrangements too. Good work y'all.
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him, to listen for a while
And there he was, this young boy, a stranger to my eyes
Strumming my pain with his fingers (one time, one time)
Singing my life with his words (two times, two times)
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd
I felt he'd found my letters and read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish, but he just kept right on

Singing my life with his words (two times, two times)

I sign in just to comment that the drummer's smiler at 1:23 killed me with cuteness
That was really good!
Wonderful as ever, Miss Robyn! You are pure talent!
OMG - she's done it again. We all love this lass - that must be awkward for her ?
Love your music.. really vintage guy here..
Bravo
Nice!!!
This feels like something out of a Christmas' film🦌🦌❤❤❤😄😄😄
Still my favorite. What an awesome voice...
This is so great. You know there's one other song by Roberta Flack. One of the first times I heard it was during a company break and a woman had a cheap AM radio playing tunes. This 30 minute break was generally making telephone calls, chat, etc.
But when her song--by Roberta Flake---came on of "the first time I ever saw your face" everything stopped and everyone not only listened to that little tinny radio radiating out these wonderful sounds but stopped what was going on in their lives. No one spoke and hardly anyone breathed as she progressed through that song and held everyone captive.
If you can recreate that, you can do anything, Scott. It literally leaves you breathless. I know you can.
It leaves you knowing her thoughts, her feelings, her pain, her wants. But when she ends on that one, final note that is so long sustained in the later version, even on a cheap, little radio years ago you don't forget, you don't want it to end, you want it to continue and then resolve to that tonic note (which some will not understand) and when i does, you feel so resolved, so released. You don't speak of it but you have transcended beyond what was basic music, and merged for a brief time with her soul. How can i otherwise express what I felt on that first time of hearing this song.
You can do that, I'm sure; I've heard what you can do. To do that with that sustained, unwavering note is shear magic.
Holy cow
Eva ending 🤩
Thanks Robynica. Came back again, to hear you again and your great singing.......
Greetings from Los Angeles.
My favorite of all of her covers so far.
WOW!
It was with done degree of skepticism that I opened this one. Roberts Flacks original came out at a rocky but special time in life and has stood unchallenged and untouchable all these years.
I should have known better than to doubt. No fear.
Robyn you once again put your touch to something known and special and make it come out special and magical.
Best best wishes in all things!
*melts*
Outstanding.
OMG MY FAVORITE SONG 😍❤❤❤❤
This is a perfect cover of killing me softly, its almost as if this is the original version!
couldnt agree more, dude
Deezus nice and strong
You should hear the original by Frank Sinatra it's more similar to this version than the Faith Hill version
@@crvenom I thought perry como sang the original

never die!
I just LOVE this style of music you're making, and you're just _killin'_ it. Also, this band lineup is excellent. The piano player and bassist are just...mm! 👌 Major kudos to the drummer as well. I really enjoy seeing musicians my age embracing these older / classic techniques.
Wonderful version. Brilliantly performed. Che Brava Robyn
The best cover I've ever heard.
I was playing this, and my little 2 year old sister started to try to sing it. It was so cute!
