I got mine 2 weeks ago and just finished the first sensor. No problems with staying on. I was checking every hour to understand how my sugar levels were changing with insulin dose, food, time of day, etc. Much better control now. My time in range is over 90% with a few highs but no lows. I've checked it against my One Touch Verio a few times and they were very close. My experience is excellent and your videos are very helpful. Thanks.

I check mine every 10 minutes when I'm testing various foods and combinations. Overnight, I check every time I wake up, if I remember, to try not to lose data. When the Low alarm goes off, I check. I don't bother with the high alarm, because I no longer take insulin. Otherwise, I check occasionally throughout the day - every hour to 3-4 hours, when I think of it. I'm type 2. Currently a very high A1C, but with the major changes I'm making (multi day fasting, fast weight loss, nutrition, avoiding most sugar, exercising), I expect that to come down quickly. Just a week in and I'm already seeing major results, though I know the results will slow down. Last year I lost 38 lbs in 3 months doing almost all of what I'm doing now.

I've only been using for 10 days and your help has been very valuable to me. I know Libre say to not cover the sensor hole but they also say the sensor is not guaranteed for use in salt water which I swim in for over an hour at a time. Therefore I have left it covered and had no problems so far. I use a transparent waterproof medical adhesive sheeting cut to a circular shape. It is advertised as breathable so maybe that's why its okay. Thanks again, I really enjoy your videos. Scanning 15 times a day until I get used to it, more in normal range and my HbA1c down

Hi Tom, another important tip is to make sure you set the sensor for application according to Abbots instructions, pressing down on a hard surface. If users don’t this may lead to a faulty sensor error. I also find if the sensor starts saying to scan again in 10 minutes it’s usually the filament a bit bent to pushing down and wiggling it a bit will sort this. Finally I wear my sensor on my inner thigh as it never gets knocked and I don’t need to tape it there, I’ve only ever lost one in 3 years wearing it here climbing up onto a high bar stool. I have never lost a sensor to the dreaded scan in 10 minutes error so this can be fixed if you get onto it right away. Maybe a couple of useful tips to add into future videos 🙂

I would say my #1 frustration from my own experience is sensors ceasing to work with 24 hours or less. It's REALLY annoying when I put a new sensor on in the morning and by 12-2am it's already telling me I need to change/scan a sensor. At least 1-2 sensors per monthly package (and I only get up to 3 sensors a month sometimes) are failing within 24 hours and even when I take off the failed sensor, the little filament is always pointed straight into my skin, so I don't understand why I keep having so many sensor failures and I'm starting to think about just going back to finger sticks because there is much less margin for errors and failures, but having my glucose reading at the tap of my phone is just so much more convenient and less of a hassle because you don't have to drag out all your diabetes supplies every time you want to see your glucose reading. I honestly don't know what to do, except keep complaining and keep ordering replacement sensors. Ugh! 😡

@@jaymiemitchell5917 Yes, I have called and received several free sensors to replace the bad ones. I just had to call again yesterday to get ANOTHER new one and the old sensor only had 2 days left on it. I just don't understand how they go from working for 12 days to suddenly not working at all and having to change it. My biggest issue right now is that we just moved back into our house, everything is still packed up in boxes, and all my old sensors that I needed to send in are now all mixed up, so I don't know which sensors are the failed ones.

I scan about 16 times a day. I scan to make sure I’m trending down from a high blood sugar and also to make sure I’m trending up from a low blood sugar. I usually use my meter only for treatment decisions. But I do use my meter on the first day of a sensor because the first day I usually have crazy numbers but then it’s more in that 15%-30% difference. I like to catch my highs early so I do scan more often than most.🤷🏻‍♀️

I applied a Freestyle Libre 2 sensor now about 24 hours ago for the first time. I have learned a lot in this short time. I am a 77 year old Type 2 diabetic diagnosed about two years ago. I sort of knew these continuous glucose sensors existed, but for some reason didn't think about getting one. I can say that after 24 hours, I've learned of several spikes in my day that I suspected but didn't know because of when I tested my blood every day. So I am finding the videos to be helpful. I'll skip the next one about watch alarms because I don't want to wear any watch.

20 or more times a day and at night when I get up to go to the bathroom. This is the tight control I always wanted to get my A1C down into the 6-range. Before with test strips, they would

I have the Libre2 was well as a desk job, so it's fairly convenient to scan regularly. As a result, I generally average 20-25 scans a day, sometimes more after any change in medication or dosage. I do have a few reminders set so that a couple of scan times occur at about the same time each day. I also click both the 1h and 2h reminder options after entering my carb intake on the reader after taking a scan. I also do one blood glucose scan with my first meal of the day, along with a CGM scan about 10-15 min later, so that I have a good idea about how the sensor is trending in relation to a blood reading.

I think they had quality control problems and wouldn't admit it. Also, I never heard about or read about keeping the little hole open. Great video, Tom. I scan anywhere from 6-10 times a day. The high side is on those days where I have high or low glucose. There are some things I have found that help. One is that I have moved the location from the back of the arm to the side. I did that because the surface is flat and so adherence is better. Abbott recommended to me that if the sensor starts coming off, then use of a medical adhesive tape about 5 inches long will hold it in place. And you can still shower. Thanks again!

Combined with a long commute where passengers are also not allowed to eat or drink, it is imperative that she check frequently. We have found that both the Libre and Dexcom have some glitches but overall they are much, much better than painful finger-sticks. I think people expect too much from technology, and tend to panic over a few points. If they devoted some attention to food and exercise management, those readings wouldn't terrify them.

Calling up, talking to a rep, giving the code, answering the questions, giving my address, waiting for a replacement, wondering if it's going to work, etc. It's so stressful. I rely very heavily on these and I spend $240/month for them. I am also seething that my pharmacy which I have been using for thirty years and knows me well won't even replace it until Abbott ships another one to them. Does ANYONE back up their products anymore? They can't even replace something they sell??
I have been an Abbot customer for many years, and so has my T1 daughter and my father was as well, but I am done with this stuff. I can't do this anymore. I don't get test strips so I am lucky when I find a few to hold me over until the sensor comes. I follow the instructions to the LETTER. I have experience using these, I know exactly what I am doing. I don't know, are they recycling these and reselling them after fixing the error codes? Seems a bit odd.
Completely done with Abbott and my current pharmacy, sadly. /end rant

Any advice about the sensor adhesive failing not from the skin, but the plastic sensor itself? the adhesive sticks great on the skin, but the sensor itself seems to detatch from the adhesive. Do cgms from other manufacturers have a better track record on sensor failures? By the way, you comment on using sensors in various places, but the back of the arm is supposedly the only correct place to apply. I have this freestyle for a few months now. it is great, when the sensors dont fail. Last 3 sensors failed, and 4th is already starting to fail after only a couple days. I think abbott is slacking in the quality control lately. They are already pinching pennies, by not including the 2 alcohol swabs in sensor package, indicating that yes changes are happening in the mfrg process, including a decline in quality. They have a faq on website where they advise people to purchase the alcohol swabs themselves now. Maybe they are pinching pennies on the adhesives also.

I read somewhere (or maybe heard in one of your videos) that the purpose of the hole in the middle of the sensor was to equilibrate temperature and humidity. Perhaps. But I have a suspicion that its real purpose is to allow blood to exit should you hit a small vessel rather than having the blood accumulate under the adhesive and loosen it prematurely.

I scan about 20 times a day. I was just diagnosed in January and a1c was over 13. Just got my first a1c after starting insulin at 7.2. Doc says this is good. I couldnt have done it without the Libre.
I knocked a couple off and started using patches, but was concerned about wearing the patch for 14 days. The patch is very sticky and hard to take off the sensor. So I use large bandages (1 3/4 X 2). The pad keeps from pulling on sensor so I can change often. I suspect this might help with that hole also.

Does it matter how many times you scan your sensor? If you keep a food and exercise diary, and then look at the graph of ups and downs and correlate it with your diary, can't you wait even until the next day when you have time to take a good close look at things? Clearly this is meant for type II DM, not type 1. I've been on strict keto for years and want to fine tune my benefits.

I thik that middle spot hole is construction dependant, it serves to push and pull the big needle. Only the black thread with contacts stays 14 under the skin and measures the resistance. You pull out and throw away the big metal needle with the applicator immediately after inserting it. It is only a pipe to guide the small one, this small is flexble and cannot penetrate your skin. This hole is bad for swimming/showering. I think it is better to close it (water drains to the hole in skin and can cause infection on the enter point. It could also damage (short) the electronic circuits of the sensor. But maybe the evaporating on the skin surface also damages the electronics when closed?!

That's what I've been doing. My question is when you have your libre sensor in your arm can you inject insulin in that same arm or should you avoid it? I have been on both long and fast insulin for over 3 years. I talked my Dr. Into using Free Style 2 about 14 months ago. Have had NO problem with my patch failing. I follow the I instructions from Libre and it works for me. I have a problem that my reading requires only 1 or 2 units of insulin. I do not like sticking a needle for less tha 3 or 4 units of insulin. Then I have found that I need to multiply by 3 to get my insulin to within the required range. If I take only 3 units my sugar doesn't drop. If I take 9 units it will drop into the high end of normal. If my sugar is not going up or down I am lucky to get it into normal. If my sugar is raising upward then it is x4. So instead of 9 and to take 12 units. This is when the chart my Dr gave me shows I only need 3 units. This confuses me. I when I am trying really hard to bring my reading to the normal range and instead it ends up stilling being high or drops down to low and I take 1 or 2 Religh tabs to bring my sugar back up. My A1C has been at least 9 and sometimes 13 during the last 3 years.

There is 13 minute delay between blood glucose reading and the Libre interstitial fluid reading. One measures in blood the other in the fluid around cells, so it takes time for blood glucose to be passed into interstitial fluids. And of course not all blood glucose is used up, but can be passed out, so doesn't make it into the 'body's system' In a way the interstitial reading is the more accurate because it is the glucose that is actually being used in cells. But this would then mean the changing of readings of what is diabetic. At the moment blood glucose reading of 5.7 would be pre-diabetic, for interstitial Im guessing that would be 5.6 or so.
