  • Jake Plummer’s highlights with the broncos from 2003-2004. Part 2 will be out soon when I am finished with it. Jake Plummer had a very mediocre first season but in 2004 Jake Plummer was off the charts. Jake Plummer set his mark with over 4,000 throwing yards in 2004 with 27 touchdowns. Jake Plummer one of my favorite Quarterbacks in Broncos history.

    Hard not to like Jake Plummer. I was too young for the Elway era and came in late for the Brian Greise years. So the Jake Plummer teams were my first exposure as a young fan to my Broncos being "good"

      Count yourself lucky you missed Brian Griese! He jacked T.D. twice by throwing him the ball with the defender in perfect position to wipe him out. No time to catch, just touch BAM!

    really sad to look back on how close Jake Plummer was to taking us to the superbowl in 2005. Watched an interview he did and he said the only thing he would've changed in his career was leaving the cardinals on year 3 and going to denver so that they would've had a better chance on going to the superbowl. I mean the first highlight says it all! the way he could throw on the run, i forgot how good he was, imagine if he came to the broncos sooner.

    • @flatcat4078
      @flatcat4078 Před 4 lety

      Nfl is a not just a Team Sport but an organizational one as well. Read my long post if you are really interested in why his career seems mediocre. He's far from mediocre!
      A bad coach can destroy a player and theses type of things non plauers do not truly understand. I've played and coached sports for many years and I can tell you first hand that coaching plays a much bigger role in an athletes success and how they are judged in the end than is seen from the outside.
      Prime example, if Dan Reeves stayed the Broncos coach John elway would never have won one championship let alone two back to back. He would be talked about as the guy who couldn't win the big one. But instead coach Shanahan came in and changed the culture. He gave elway the pieces to become a champion, plain and simple. But in a nutshell we didn't do the same for Plummer who also was not as good as Elway so He needs more help. He needed another offensive weapon or a better offensive line as seen in the 05' championship game and he would definitely have a ring.

  • @flatcat4078
    @flatcat4078 Před 4 lety +1

    I watched Plummers whole career, even going back to some college. Bottom line, he was a gun slinger!. He had a better winning record for the Broncos than Elway and did more for the organization than most know or can begin to understand.
    Broncos football was dead after Elway retired, it was hard to watch. Plummer brought the magic back to Denver. I had season tickets during that time and I can tell you that is exactly what happened. We automatically became a contender with Plummer and that was with decent team at best. Let's not forget many of these plauers were on their last leg from the super bowl years with Elway.
    The Broncos drafting was terrible during those years as well. Basically the Champ Bailey trade truly saved plummers career because we had a threat on defense as well as the O. But as I stated before beside Champ we gave Plummer very little to work with. We passed on multiple stars each year and when it came down to it Shanahan made the ultimate mistake by drafting Cutler. He fell in love with the Patrick Mahomes like Arm talent yet failed to see thats about where the comparison stopped. So he drafted him instead of building around Plummer. The Broncos passed on numerous players year after year that would have taken the team to a SB winning level.
    Here are some names if you all have forgotten. Marshawn lynch, MJD, CJ2K, Desean Jaxson to name a few!!! Not to mention Randy moss in free agency lol.
    Without any of those players Jake Plummer powered offenses were able to take down the patriots many times including handing Brady his first playoff loss and stopping their potential 3 peat!!!. The Broncos would go toe to toe with Manning and the Colts but usually would get knocked out by them in the playoffs due to the team just being better than the Broncos. Champ would literally shut down Harrison and Manning would just go everywhere else and the Broncos offense could not keep with the offensive juggernaut that the Colts was.
    Plummer played his butt off in those games and basically in all his games. He was a winner, he had those intangibles that you just can't measure. It's truly a shame that we never got to see him play with a better offensive team. People like to point the blame on him for many of the team's losses including the 05' afc championship loss to the Steelers but go watch the game again. I was there, Plummer was being pressure by that nasty defense the whole game. They got the best of him and it's as simple as that. We were outmatched, we could not protect Plummer and they were dialing up all kinds of exotic blitzes. We were outcoached and outplayed across the board, but I always hear people just blame Plummer for that loss. Yes he had a bad game but when you look at it it only makes sense why.
    One thing that no one can take away is that guy has heart. He always displayed it on and off the field as far as I cou ld see. In the end the organization screwed him and he retired because of it.
    It truly would have been great to see what Plummer would have done throwing to someone like Randy Moss!!! and to think he could have done that while handing off to a number of top back like MID, cj2k or Beast mode.
    The Broncos organization literally blew it!
    They did Jake Plummer dirty!!!

    • @flatcat4078
      @flatcat4078 Před 4 lety

      Another thing I wanted to say is that Jake Plummer would absolutely be a Top QB in today's offensive geared Nfl.
      I feel this way about quite a few of the older players because despite what anyone thinks the QBs /Wrs are far more protected now. The NFL is all about scoring these days and its easy to see. The league changed and many people fail to point that out when comparing modern era qbs to prior eras.
      Say what you want but the farther you go back with the NFL the rougher it's been for Qbs all the way back to the invention of the forward pass.
      It's hard for people who haven't lived through or understand the difference in multiple eras to see this very important point! This is also alot deeper than the NFL being rougher on qbs and not being focused so much on scoring and such but I digress.
      Jake the Snake would tear it up in today's game. I believe he mentioned something along these line in one of his last interviews about his Broncos career.
      When anyone tries to talk about how much better plauers like Mahomes supposedly is thsn the past greats be very quick to remind them that it was a different game then. Mahomes is definitely not throwing 50tds playing against players like Lawrence Taylor and Reggie white when they can freely take two steps then hit Mahomes helmet first in the chest then like drive him with all 300lbs+ with some players directly into the ground like a pancake. I think Phil Simms called it the dead whale or something like that.
      There is a reason that many of the players back then had shorter than what seems to be normal careers. I believe many players like Montana, Young, Elway asnd such would easily have longer careers in today's game.
      An interesting case is tom Brady and now Drew brees. They both now have played in two eras really. They both came in when the league was still more of a physical game and they both played all the way into today game which emphasises finess.
      If anyone here thinks Brady is playing for 20+ years back in the day you are highly mistaken. Also... If you think hes tougher than than Elway you are just as clueless.

    • @MorvusMonvrus
      @MorvusMonvrus Před 3 lety

      @@flatcat4078 Hey man, most of what you said is solid, but give Brady credit where it's due. If you don't think he's Elway-tier tough due to his (literally unmatched) longevity, just look back to before the QB protection rules, at some of the absolutely BONE CRUSHING hits he took early in his career, and bounced back up from. He's also the 2nd most sacked quarterback in history, and will likely become #1 after this year. I don't think Brady started out with elite TALENT, and rather grew into it, but it's a pretty big stretch to not acknowledge him as being top-level tough.

    Jale Plummer was super inconsistent, when he played good he was good, not excellent, but I remember that when the game was on the line, you could never rely on him to make a great decision to pull the team through (to be fair is not a “never”, but it was 50/50), ultimately that was the reason Shanahan drafted Jay Cutler, because he got sick of Plummer’s inconsistency.
