In this segment of On Location, Coyote free handles a Black Widow spider!
Yes you read that correct, in an attempt to prove that this widely feared arachnid is actually rather docile and always more interested in avoiding humans than inflicting a bite, Coyote will attempt hold one with his bare hands.
He does this with the confidence that these mild mannered creatures will actually remain calm if unprovoked…but there is always the slight chance and the question...WILL IT BITE?!
Well if Coyote is bitten the consequences will be extremely painful and potentially deadly, so the team will be on standby to call for medics just incase the worst scenario actually unfolds…to be BITTEN by a Black Widow Spider! YIKES!

I used to catch black widows all the time as a kid and young adult. I kept one as a pet for three years. Named her Matilda and fed her a cricket every couple of weeks. She was awesome!

@Brave Wilderness, I am extremely thankful for what you and your team do to inform people about these venomous animals and how to act around them as to not get bit or stung. Yesterday I was walking home when I accidentally ran into a black widow web. I then checked my self and noticed that there was a large female on my leg. I likely would not be writing this message if I hadn't watched this video 2 years ago and learned how to handle black widows and to stay calm instead of swatting at it. Once again Thank you for all of your work!

I have a pet black widow but it died:( my cousin accidentally put it on a burning/hot spot and it died we buried it and said good bye :( he only lived up to 18 minutes with us they didn't bite me or them it was friendly but it keeps making webs and keeps going to our arm but really they don't bite

The Black Widow Spider is such a beautiful and interesting creature... everybody thinks of them to be dangerous and aggressive when the truth is they are very timid and delicate creatures, I have 3 of them right now as pets and I have built a relationship with one of them, I know that sounds crazy but while having them I've been able to study each of their behaviors and notice that they interestly all have different personalities... it's crazyy as hell 🕷

They are ! I am so happy you understand them like that. I am actully friends with a Black Widow in my room, she and her babies live in my closet. I hold her in my palm and she has not one time shown me any kind of frightened or vicouse behavier!
One day, I came home from school and she was sitting on my bed and was waiting for me to come play with her and her babies. but the next day she passed away. When females lay their eggs they live up to about 3-4 weeks later and they die.

Andrew M. Black widows arnt aggressive. You have practicaly nothing to worry about while handling one. Just dont try to forcivly move it. Let it crawl on you and dont agitate it.
Most people are bitten by them because they stick there hand to close picking up a nail to finish boring up a wall or something. The scarry part is black widows have the capability to kill a person with the venom.

I wouldn't call it risking his life; he's an adult in fairly good shape. A bite might make him sick, but unless he sustains multiple bites or is allergic, he's not gonna die.

The freehandling had no tension for me, purely because I’ve freehandled four at work (including one that was a bit agitated) to rescue/relocate em. They are sweethearts if you are comfortable handling spiders and know what you’re doing.

There are a whole bunch of tiny little jumping spiders living in my house, and they are just the best little roommates. Jumping spiders are my favorite spiders and really help my arachnophobia.

I love spiders. They’re quite misunderstood, especially black widows. There is *no* spider that attacks a human because it wants to. Most spiders run away if possible, or play dead, including black widows, but if constantly provoked a female will bite as a last resort. Even tarantulas are quite relaxed unless threatened.

As someone who is currently in France and who just had a physical encounter with a black widow spider a few hours ago, I highly appreciate this and this is fun. I held the egg carton a while ago not knowing that there was a black widow spider under it and it crawled on my right hand as if it's just going down the stairs. Fortunately, it didn't bite me. It's beautiful and shiny in person. :)

Yeah, when you're allergic the bite can turn out fatal. However in most intsances if you are healhty or in some sort of good health the bite wouldn't do that much to you. It's deadly up to a certain degree, get it? It's just all about how your body react to the venom. Hope this helped you a bit. The seizure isn't from the bite either, rather from shock.
