It is very helpful to me to see that you are accepting some trot steps in between the cancer to walk in the walk to canter. I have been insisting my mare not trot, probably getting a little bit too hung up on that rather than accepting a a couple of trot steps. Insisting on no trot is probably making her tense.

Thanks for watching Diana, and don’t forget to subscribe to get notified of my new weekly content! Thank you Amelia. I found it helpful to see the resistance of this horse that is learning, because of course we all encounter resistance as our horses are learning and gradually building muscle. How old is the horse in this video? By the way, I am living in Athens, Greece now since 2019, where there are virtually no dressage trainers, so you’re an immense help to me!!!
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage , I recently purchased and am working with an 8 year old Andalusian mare (sport horse type), who was ridden poorly before, BTV with hollow back. I have her since mid April, and slowly she’s building the muscle in the right places to make a nice top-line, although we still have a long ways to go. I am holding off on changes but soon will be ready to consistently do the exercises in this video. Thank you again so much!
I am currently at the stage where our walk canters are good but our canter walks are not always good, with him running through at times. If I practice on the circle, he gets them quickly but when I incorporate them into say riding a test with other movements, I don't always get them nice and crisp.
Think about utilizing shoulder fore/shoulder in during the downward transition. This will help with the collection needed for a balanced downwards transition. I also have a great video on walk-canter-walk that you could check out: czcams.com/video/ZH3YS_tW0uc/video.html
Do you have a video on the canter-walk transition specifically? I'm wondering how to clearly, but subtly, communicate canter-walk as opposed to canter-trot.
Great video! I have a lot more practice to do. My horse gets hot and tense if I do more than a few walk/canter transitions. He curls under and starts to anticipate. What can I do to help him be more settled with this exercise?
A little bit of lateral work might help, also throw in the trot transition at times before he gets tense. Try to prevent the tension is easier than trying to defuse it.
the problem with my horse i don't know how to teach him to go from canter to walk i have to go to trot then walk . can you give in details the aids what you do exactly with your hands. body and legs to teach the horse to go from canter to walk without going to trot . people just say use the walk aids . how can the horse tell the difference between my trot and walk aids . thanks for the video i spent months improving my 4 years ottb to get the correct canter lead right

@@AmeliaNewcombDressage thank you very much i guess the problem with my horse is collection he is still trying to learn . sometimes he does it sometimes like he haven't learned it . i try to keep steady contact so he can take the bit
We are at the same place with training and getting ready to teach flying changes. I doing the walk on the straight line now but the downwards transition isn't consistent he wants to trot for a step or two. Am I not using enough leg? I will try the shallow circles and see if that helps. Thanks so much for video and good luck in Chicago
He may not be strong enough yet if he feels like he needs to do trot steps. Build his strength and connection off your seat by doing transitions within the gaits (ie lengthens). Hope that helps!
My guy takes a quick trot step and changes. I have a hard time keeping him up in the front and more under with his hind end. He has the walk canter back to walk and change leads between each walk. Any help you can suggest would appreciate.

Please do!
Thank you for another great video! We're still working on straightness in the canter as my horse likes to pop his right shoulder out. Left lead canter needs work, but through steady consistent work I'm sure we'll get there.
Yes! You got this! Keep going!
Thanks for watching Amanda, and don’t forget to subscribe to get notified of my new weekly content! I love hearing from viewers about successes and difficulties. You will DEFINITELY get there with steady consistent work! :)

This is a NICE horse glad you are taking the time. I struggle with a shorter connection on 1 of my horses he resents it and gets short strides and stiff. And bending is really hard for him so it will be quite a while before I can do these!
Thanks for watching and subscribing Wendy! You'll get there with your boy, you know how it is with the taking the time! :)

@@AmeliaNewcombDressage Yes, I did hear. Will this be at Lamplight? I will be at Tempel Farms in Wadsworth in early October. When are the finals for you? Maybe I can come see you compete. And best wishes. I'm rooting for you!
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage Yes, absolutely. We are only working in the circle at present; he's not ready to try the walk transition on the long side yet. He really needs the circle for keeping the bend. We've been working on contact; submission, and supppleness all last month- in all gaits, plus staying round and deep in the w/t & h/t & t/c transitions. When I tried the w/c transitions last week, it was the first time he could do them. I was over the moon. Jump is the key!
This was very Helpful! Back to work!
best of luck! Let me know how it goes!

Thank you for the great video!! So very helpful. We have been working on the canter-walk-canter transitions, but adding the serpentine pattern will be good. In your next video, can you comment on when you like to start actually trying the flying changes? I have heard that it is best to wait until after you are done showing second level. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching Diana, and don’t forget to subscribe to get notified of my new weekly content! Yes in general, it's absolutely best to wait until your horse can do everything in the second level very well before attempting the changes. They need to have that strength and balance before they start the schooling for changes. Let me know how you get on with the canter walk canter. Here are some more videos to help with that!

Have been trying to do changes.
Keep up the good work!
starting them now. we have good canter-walk-canter. but we've beat 2nd 3 to death and I'm afraid we overdid counter canter...
Thanks for the lesson.
My pleasure!

@@AmeliaNewcombDressage Google Review Done and Dusted.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! He's 7 years old. And Greece is beautiful! Lucky you!
These two videos might help you: czcams.com/video/U9SFVGzqXV8/video.html
czcams.com/video/XcCF6uFjhcM/video.html
Great video! I have a lot more practice to do.
My horse gets hot and tense if I do more than a few walk/canter transitions. He curls under and starts to anticipate. What can I do to help him be more settled with this exercise?
A little bit of lateral work might help, also throw in the trot transition at times before he gets tense. Try to prevent the tension is easier than trying to defuse it.
Can you talk us through canter walk. We’re good at walk canter, but keep trotting through canter to walk.
Check this video out for help: czcams.com/video/ZH3YS_tW0uc/video.html
the problem with my horse i don't know how to teach him to go from canter to walk i have to go to trot then walk . can you give in details the aids what you do exactly with your hands. body and legs to teach the horse to go from canter to walk without going to trot . people just say use the walk aids . how can the horse tell the difference between my trot and walk aids . thanks for the video i spent months improving my 4 years ottb to get the correct canter lead right

I have a great webinar on the Flying Changes that will help: amelianewcombdressage.com/free-flying-changes-webinar-reserve-your-spot/
The clicking is really annoying I doubt there's a way to eliminate it but maybe dropping the volume or voice over
