Buzzbait also A LOT more fishable around vegetation obviously.
Whopper Plopper you can pause it, rip it, and if a fish misses you can let it sit then continue the retrieve.
The sounds of both are unique too.
Definitely a place for both in everyones arsenal

I prefer the 130 size over the 110 and the 90 in my experience the 130 can be fished slower while maintaining that plopping sound and and it’s a louder sound and with the bait being in the strike zone longer and slower fish can track it better , I’ve used all three sizes and have had 2-3 times more fish on the 130 size then any other size,, the 110 needs to be fished faster in order to maintain the proper sound , you can almost crawl a 130 with a 7 gear ratio reel and get the proper sound ,

Been making buzzer baits since the 80’s. Didn’t know what a whopper plopper was the other day till I was on wish. Tons of knock offs on there. I bought a half dozen of them off eBay for $11 shipped. The reason I bought some is because my dad uses low gear ratio zebco spincasters. They never wind fast enough to get a traditional buzz bait up on plain. Also the cheap, light, line used them snaps when casting heavy buzzers.

Brother you obviously know what you’re talking about and what works for you and I could ask the same question to any pro bass fisherman, do you ever slow down and fish for pleasure?

Another thing different between the two is the whopper plopper floats. Since it floats you can pause the retrieve or change caden of the retrieve.

nice video. the whopper plopper comes in many many sizes. i've caught many many big bass on standard buzzbaits as well. Each bait has it's own characteristics like you stated. the only thing i feel that the whopper ploppper has that the standard buzzbait does not is the added commotion on the surface (whopper plopper 75). both are great choices, but if i had to throw one before the other i would choose the plopper. Check out our page for some examples in our fall fishing videos!

Whats the difference, one basically requires a steady retrieve and the other, you can plop it and forget about it, wait and start your retrieve again, slow or fast.

BLat I love your vids. Maybe I can help you for a change. I fish a whopper plopper alot. However I don’t just cast and real. I cast it and let it settle for a few seconds then I pop it like a hoola popper a few times then crank it. The other way I fish it is like walking the dog with a zarra spook. I have better luck fishing itthis way.

i've lost my buzzbait and was so sad cause i was confident that i was gonna get a fish. so i went home got my plopper that i had for 2 years never caught anything with it and just recently caught 2 largemouths but they were 11in-12in. I do see the difference between the two, i will buy another buzzbait, what would you recommend?

Hey B lat. I’ve also found that I can throw a buzz bait when there are leaves on the water or grass just touching the top.

Cavitron buzzbait is money as well as whopper 110 size

  • @crown951

You can also pause and use the smaller ploppers as a popper while retrieving it

Same with the 130 , a twitch / pause retrieve can be deadly for smallies

B-lat how does weather factor in to your choice between a plopper or buzzbait? Wind vs. no wind, sunny vs. overcast, etc. Thanks for the awesome content

Caught a 37 inch pike on the one that is about 2 inches bigger than this. Thay was insane to see. But, like you I don't like to give them much room to move with it after hooking them. I dragged that big girl right in lol
