    Congrats to the What's Neat staff on #100 Show! What a milestone! I do have all my slot car set's..1/32 & 1/87th scale! I do need something smaller for my n-scale layout which is 4' & 6'. It was a treat to see the original staff on the 100th show! How cool is that! I've been a fan since the first show! You came a long way!
    It's always a treat to see & hear Chris Palomarez & Mike Budde to see what they are up too! It is the "World's Greatest Hobby" Till Next Time! Have A Merry Christmas! "MoPac Jack"

    Congrats on 100! While I agree prototype modeling takes guesswork out of things, I'm a strong proponent of "proto-lancing", where taking something real as a starting point and putting your own spin on it really builds your creativity. Great show guys!

Not sure if I have enough life left to deal with that. As Mr.Regier says, this is the best midel railroad bull session about topics and technics of interest.

    Dirk Rynolds! I remember from the first few episodes, where you answered viewer questions. It's been such a journy since episode 1, and i hope to be watching for a hundred more. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy and Safe New Years. And always, Happy model Railroading. As you say, "This IS the best hobby in the world" and as someone who aspires to one day have a layout, But the fun is in getting there. The processes of choosing a scale, to planning a layout, to building it, it's a journy, much like a train trip; Such has the remarkable trip from the beginning of WNTW.
    Once Again, to everybody out there in the studio, and those throughout the hobby & Industy, I wish you all the Warmest of seasons greetings, and a happy and safe New Year of modeling.

    Great episode, and congrats on number 100! I have to disagree with Ken on prototype modeling. There is a lot of guesswork with prototype modeling if you don't model the present day, as there are many things that change over the years. Layouts will never be completely 100% prototypical, and there will be some details that cannot be replicated.

    Who manufactures the little red trolley on the left side of the desk? It's in front of Chris Palmerez (sp). Is it a model of Mr. Roger's neighborhood? My granddaughter is crazy about Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood! She's almost 10 months old.

    • @JamesRegiersModels
      @JamesRegiersModels Před 4 lety +1

      That trolley is one that I kitbashed from a Tyco Broadway and a Bachmann Spectrum Birney Safety Car. Here is a video I put up a while ago about making it. czcams.com/video/yYoTEX4D00k/video.html
      I designed it after the original Trolley in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, which was about G scale. I was inspired by Paul Lally's HO scale trolley, which went back and forth in the opener and closer of the show from 1982 onwards, but his trolley could not move under it's own propulsion--mechanisms and technology at the time made scale speeds impossible--and it had closed sides. I wanted mine to be operational and to look like the original.

    • @JamesRegiersModels
      @JamesRegiersModels Před 4 lety +1

      I should also note that the trolley on the table had a two sided banner, with one side reading "Merry Christmas", and the other side reading "Happy Chanukah". I modeled the removable banner after the one that appeared on the Neighborhood Trolley for the "Christmastime With Mister Rogers" special that aired on PBS in 1977.

    Question for James. James your beacon looks great, but the Rapido Trains beacon is the wrong color. I'm a ATSF modeler and have two of these units that I would like to get the color corrected in. How do you go about fixing this problem? Thanks, Joe

    • @JamesRegiersModels
      @JamesRegiersModels Před 4 lety

      Hi Joe. Just saw this. I noticed the same thing with my B36-7. The red LEDs that Rapido used for their stratolights are certainly disappointing. Unfortunately, I don't know that there is any reasonably simple solution to the problem.
      I have used clear acrylic orange paint to tint the warm white LEDs in the stratolight beacon on my GP35, but I do not think it would have the same effect on a red LED.
      The only solution I can think of would be to replace the LEDs in the beacon with white 0201 LEDs--I think that size is what Rapido used. White LEDs can be toned to desired warmness with clear acrylics.
      I would have to do some experimentation with the 0201 LEDs before making any clear recommendations on how to proceed with the replacement, however. I plan to share tips for working with them as soon as I am able.
      In the mean time, Aaron Heine electronics makes stratolight beacons that may suit your needs. The other option would be to let it slide for the time being. Fortunately, the redness seems to be toned down considerably in video.

      The trolley is configured after the 1976 Christmas Time with Mister Rogers special. The banner on top is two sided with “Merry Christmas” on one side and “Happy Chanukah” on the other. I have often had it at the Magic House during the holiday season, though a cracked gear kept it off duty this year. I would have talked about it, but we were already running long, and I had a lot of stuff.
