Apply lightener with 20% vol developer for on scalp applications - chemical burns can be caused by using too high of developers ie: 30 & 40 volume but also I tell my clients to not wash their hair for three days. This allows the scalp to build up oils to act as a barrier between the scalp and the lightener and will help with any stinging or irritation. Apply the lightener to the back of the nape first bc that’s where there’s the most density of hair follicles, apply to the hairline last bc the follicles are less and fine - you could cause breakage if applied too early. If you’re working with blue you have to take out the yellow and brass from the hair with a toner otherwise you end up getting green or at best turquoise. And even on short hair, section as best you can so you avoid patchy areas like what ended up happening here. Also you may use a hair cap to help process the hair faster, i double cap my clients to really contain that heat. Hope this helps.

i just got my license and thinking of getting my color/chemical license
No as long as the scalp is not irritated scratching, combing any abrasive on scalp it will burn. I had many, many, many burns, all my hair fell out. Coat scalp with Vaseline or coconut oil no irritation itcwill not burn. The higher the volume the quicker the hair will turn the lower the volume you can leave on longer. Martha said you will get burn because it's a chemical not true.
