- Happy to share the full first set, unedited and in one go, of Tuba Skinny's first appearence in the foyer at The Casino, in the old pretty little spa town of Châtel-Guyon, some 110 miles west of Lyon, May 19th, 2018. Jazz aux Sources à 20 ans, Le Festival de Swing à Danser, couldn't have invited a more appropriate band to entertain the audience and get dansers going wild. William et Maeva and Cathy et Gilbert were outstanding on that small area, showing pure joy. Due to the huge crowd, almost standing on top of each other, one was given very little space to work with, trying to stabilize the hand-held Sony HandyCam FDR-AX100, a bit off the optimal angle for shooting.

I love this band. Everyone is a virtuoso but the clarinetist is the standout because of the way he weaves his magic around and through the melody. And the washboard - what can I say!😀😄😁😆

I remember Al Hurt from when I was a child and Shay Cohn reminds me of him by how SMOOTH she is on that horn. So sweet.
Al Hirt was a slick, commercial player, Dixieland in the worst sense. He was sho biz. Shaye is much more authentic in her re envisioning old songs and her creativity and inventiveness. She plays in a modern, classic style, an artist..
My highlight set. Although I have a lot when Tuba Skinny has been playing. 🙂
