I've been growing houseplants for much much longer than you've even been alive, and I'm with you on a number of these. Others I might like in other people's collections but never again for me. I will not grow marantas, calatheas, tradescantias (the indoor types) fittonias, pileas, certain peperomias, and then there are those that just bore me, like ZZ plant, money plant, dracaenas (not sansevierias which are now dracaena, stupidly, the actual regular species) or palms. Life is too short to grow stuff that we don't like or make us crazy.
Omg, you named all the ones I'd never have either and I mean exactly, lol!
Oof you named all the ones I have. 😂
I actually agree with pretty much all of these as you named. Yep.
I really do not have problems with Calatheas but Alocasias…I have wasted too much money on. The Alocasia that I have not had problems and seems more stable is the Watsoniana.
it depends primarily where you are living. If you live in West Indies, you can grow easily most of those indoor plants, even outside, but if you live in Paris, France, for exemple, it is very different ..... I love big leaves philodendron (ring of fire, melanochrysum), but they hate me and are slowly dying, it is painful to watch ..... I have more success with Anthurium (crystallinum and clarinervium) and I can watch big leaves growing ..... When I am bored with some plants, I give them away to friends or co-workers !
No matter how many times we’re warned about certain plants, I find it funny how we all have to try for ourselves. 😂 Especially the melano and the verrucosum. They’re just so pretty! 😢
I don’t think I’ll ever tire of Syngonium.. especially now that I’m learning about all the different varieties.. beautiful plants 🌱
I agree with you. They are so easy for me and a prolific grower to boot.
I love Syngoniums! I've had mine growing in low light, mid light, full sun in S. Texas which somehow they adored. They even survived the frigid winters of New England when all I had was a cheap $5 grow light aimed at them, and they're always just so happy and lovely.
Here in S. Georgia, spider plants are a common ground cover with hundreds in a bed.
I dug up 3 healthy specimens. One for the aroid greenhouse, one for the bright kitchen window and the last for the sun porch. All dead in 3 months.😂
I fell out of love with spiderplants cause of their constant browning tips but i've since learned from Sheffield plants to water my plants with dechlorinated water. Now all my spiderplants are thriving and luscious
For spiderplants, I used to kill them all too until I noticed their colour fades when they're thirsty. So now I check the colour of their leaves to know if I need to water them. If it's bright green I won't water them, if it's faded green I will. They also kind of like to be snug in their pots.
For the P. Verrucosum, mine started growing well, with beautiful leaves when I transferred it to sphagnum moss and put them on a sphagnum moss pole as well. I never let the moss dry out completely and they're alright now. No underwatering problem anymore!
I am so glad that the lights went on for me on many of the "hyped up" plants. I think I will just love the plants that give me joy regardless of the fads. I feel like I have traveled down the beaten path of plant collecting and "grown-up" ☘️🌿
I think you might enjoy growing Syngonium Chiapense. The leaves are beautiful and rubber like, they grow large leaves and are hardy when it comes to pests or water irregularities.
Oh…that’s my wishlist plant.
Yes! Came to suggest a chiapense! Beautiful thick leaves, climbs and sizes up easily! Love mine!
I find it interesting that different people can grow different plants well or not well. I can barely keep a gloriosum alive but verrucosums thrive in my environment (thanks to semihydro).
The plants that im over are: syngonium llano carti road, monstera peru, ferns, and some others I refuse to remember
For me the whole genus of tradescantia can stay the heck away from me. They always turn into leggy crispy ugliness
Sure the propagate easily but they all turn into garbage and they aren't pretty/cool enough to make it even miniscule worth it 😅
I agree with pink princess and melanocrisis too! Ugh
I've never been a fan of philodendron. Especially the upright ones. I've been leaning into plants that produce colorful and/or fragrant flowers. I love my oxalis as the leaves are pretty and they are prolific bloomers. I've discovered that orchids aren't difficult to grow, they're just different. I enjoy the maranta blooms and am looking forward to kalanchoe blooms. Snake plant blooms are also fabulous and smell like honeysuckle. I'm approaching the stage where if it doesn't have pretty flowers indoors then I'm not interested. Granted, my red aglaonema is so colorful it doesn't need pretty flowers.
I'm glad you were able to find what works for you 😊
Emma, thanks! So agree on all of them. I am still fairly new to plans, and been kicking myself for being unable to keep 80% of the ones you listed alive. The other 20% I have not owned yet and now probably never will. Thanks for the advice. Good to know it is not me but the plants! X
I am laughing about the birkin too! But I have this weird relationship with mine. It is mostly green, but it grows so wonky that I can sort of relate to it! Lol. It's actually getting pretty tall. It's in my bathroom so it's not taking up any of the more valuable real estate!
I think I am also *mostly* done with syngonium. I do LOVE my Chiapense and Frosted Heart, as well as my Albo and 3 Kings. Otherwise, I feel like they are just taking up prime real estate in my home.
I agree with you on the philodendron pink princess. Does anybody else think that when you get it home , in a few weeks of growing time, the pretty pink turns to a very ugly color along with the green part of leaves? No an appealing plant. Don’t know if it’s getting too much or not enough light.
I have my Pilea Mojito in Soil Ninja PON and it loves it! Lives on my shelf under a grow light but is forever pushing out new growth and pups
Melano, verrucosum and Pink Princess- I totally agree, however I still have them :) My number one on the never again list is epipremnum N'joy. You can literally overwater it with one mililiter more than usual.
I am happy to say that I managed to grow Alocasia zebrina from corns. but it all started not so funny, at first I bought a black zabrina on sale, which was at a 50% discount, I decided to rescue it, but unfortunately, after a month, it completely lost all its leaves. I was very disappointed and just put the pot in the corner of the room and did not look at it for several months, when I finally decided to throw it away, I found that there were about 10 corns in the ground, I planted them in the soil and after two or three months, 5 of the 10 corns grew up😊. I kept the corns in warm 20C, and when they sprouted I gave them grew light and then the leaves became bigger
Try Syngonium Chiapense and Philo Splendid if you haven’t already have them. They’re among my favorites and so easy to care for. You’d love both 👍🏻🤗
I’ve got a splendid growing at the moment from props. Hoping to get it going big 🤞 thanks for the rec!
I had the same problem that you had with pink Princess except it was with white Princess. It just fre smaller and smaller leaves without variegation despite increasing humidity and light
Oh that is so strange cause spider plants for me explode. Like I add stress coat to my plant water to avoid brown tips and other then that
I do nothing special for them. It has to be your sun / Earth location. I have blinds but I put tension bars with white shers to filter my light down a little.
I feel you with the Spider plants! The only one I have is from my mother and it is VERY established. The babies I try and grow from her usually die though. The only success I've had is water propagating and then into a self watering pot. Bless them but they are the 👹
I had a blast watching this installment. I felt like you were in my head about every single plant except the spider. I couldn’t laugh at you because I’ve killed Snake Plants without over watering. I’m so over my Philodendron Green Princess and the darn thing won’t die. 😂
Alocasia; they're thirsty, need alot of light but still prone to get leggy, losing leaves and having pests. I'd rather have a cactus. 😒
Love the plant roast, for your environment and your care, of course! I agree with you on most but I have other plants I struggle with too and I keep trying every time one dies I do an autopsy and I do research and I just can’t stop trying! Thanks
An autopsy, omg, too funny!😂😂😂
@@WendyP1965Ik right 😂
My "will not buy again" list was almost identical to yours! It's a relief to know other people struggle with the same houseplants. Thank you for that!
I was also done with syngoniums until I found "red arrow" or syngonium erythrophyllum. So far, it's been an easy keeper, and it's beautiful, too. It hasn't lost any leaves yet😀!
I've also recently bought a philodendron species that makes me smile every day😁! It's a philodendron squamiferum. I love its funny furry looking stems! It's another super easy keeper that is doing soooo well without needing any special attention.
I hope these are available "across the pond!"
Hi! New subscriber here - clicked on because of the title! I have most of the plants you mentioned and agree with 90% of your experience...the only syngonium I can keep alive and thriving is the Batik, which was a wishlist plant. It behaves entirely different than all the others I've had. (Maybe I just have a unicorn!) I actually love my Birken. I was very late to that party due to crazy prices, but found one for $17.99 at the GROCERY store and it's growing quite nicely and the variegation is holding on for a LONG time. It's nice and full, too. I can' even bring myself to speak of the PPP or the Paraiso! 😂 Thanks for sharing and keeping it real! 👏🏽🪴👏🏽
How close to a window is your Birkin by the way? I always wanted one but don't know much care on them. Your comments are welcome!
It breaks my heart whenever people say they don't like syngonium. But honestly I get it. Same with the melanochrysum, I just can't anymore
For the zebrina I had the same problem with growing them from corms until I had accidentally left them next to a fan I think the constant movement helps the stems thicken up to support a bigger leaf
Ooooh that’s a shout! I’ll have to give that a go! On mine! Thanks!
I put my PPP in the garden against a tree. and literally said "fend for yourself!" 🤣 spiderplants.. outside in the garden. My alocasia cuprea is doing that root rot thing too. I have like 15 varieties of alocasia in the same pots and mix but noo cuprea just wants to be different. 🤨
I have also struggled with my Pilea for years, gave up a while ago and trashed it. Shortly after that I went to the plant store with my boyfriend and he picked out a Pilea for himself. That thing is absolutely THRIVING in his place?? Its growing super fast and looks really nice. Idk what he is doing but its somehow working lol
I also just bought a Paraiso Verde and verrucosum (they were both pretty cheap) and i want them to do well soooo badly. I hope I can make it happen haha
I also agree that Syngonium are prone to pests and the leaves die off super quickly when damaged, but they also grow back very reliably and really fast even when all the leaves are gone and theres only the stems & root system left. I also loooove the pink Syngoniums so much, especially the Milk Confetti
I love this video so much, made me chuckle so much as I totally agree on so many! Thank you for keeping your content ‘real’, just brilliant
I fell out of love with my pink princess as well. However, I got a TC pink princess and have been in love with it. I find the TC pink princesses to grow so much nicer and the pink variegation has been stable and consistent on ever leaf.
I can't for the life of me keep Monstera or Calathea alive, but I'm not ready to give up yet. I love ferns, but I'm not ready to try again with those.
I have completely given up on tradescantia.
The variegated philodendron never really did it for me, especially since they cost an arm and a leg, and they are incredibly finicky.
The biggest planty surprise for me is Caladium. They are doing really well, and I adore them, even if they do dormant in winter. I also love spider plants, but I'm an overwaterer, and end up drowning them.
Sooo agree with the Pilea. I’m like how do people grow these giant ones??? 😅
No idea!!
Hi Emma, I know how you must feel! I am never, ever, ever going to try and grow another MILTONIOPSIS ORCHID AGAIN! I started giving them numbers b/c I had purchased quite a few. Last number was NINE!! I do absolutley LOVE them, but oh no, never again. I cannot give them what they need just to stay alive, never mind thrive! :(
For me it’s calluna and bromelias. Callunas I guess are just better in the garden and bromelias I can’t figure out, and when they die, they die, you can’t propagate any part of them to salvage. But with spider plants I’ve done well. I had one years ago when I knew nothing about plants, it lived a long time and put out flowers and pups but then I got overwhelmed by other things in life and let all my plants wither. I have a little new one now and am hoping it grows big and lush 😊
Love this video 🙌 I get your aversion to spider plants, haha. On my list there are ficus too. No matter what kind of focus or what conditions and care it gets, they always die on me 🤷♀️
Love that you’re not apologizing for your opinions. I am actively trying to remind myself to stop apologizing for everything. It’s a tough habit to break. But we are better off when we celebrate how great it is when personal preferences vary. It keeps life interesting.
I do love the Syngonium podophyllum albo-variegatum and Syngonium chiapense (especially the variegated versions). I’m not into the pink ones either.
I love Pilea peperomioides but it did take a few attempts to grow one well.
My cats love my Dracaena marginata too but they don’t want to mess with dead leaves. I’ve worked out if they’re out of reach, it’s fine but I get it. If I didn’t have them bc (before cats), I wouldn’t have them.
Great video. Great energy. Thank you.
My cat also loves stringy leaves! So- I started growing her - her own grass. It helps.
Totally agree with you on the verrucosum. I’ve had mine for about 2 years and it’s still a stick on a moss pole, and I live in Hawaii, it’s humid as hell here and it’s still not happy 🤦🏽♂️ idk what’s wrong with her
Any alocasia, no matter what I do, they always die, no matter the type either. Pairiso Verde's and variegated Burle Marx, always revert. Especially my BM, it keeps all it's green leaves, but leaves with variegation die almost immediately whenever I repot it.
Thank you for your video. Paraiso Verde is on my wish list. But I'll certainly think twice before getting one. I love my three PPP : one big sister and her two lil sis that was on the pot with her. I get so use to their temperamental majesties. I got them during the last bit of the PPP fever. I must recognize if I knew more about them, I would never buy them. Variegation is sooo random and rare with them. They, my euphorbia white ghost and my 2 ficus shivereana moonlight light taught me a good lesson : never ever buy a plant because it's "rare" and fashionable. I'm growing plants for years. But that didn't prevent me at all to be a fashion victim 😮
Agree with almost all of them u said, esp can't do most philodendrons. BUT I do intend to keep my 2 Birkins (a staple for me now) and still like syngoniums even if they sometimes get thrips... but I am a big elephant ear family fan since they grow so well for me 😊.
New sub from Australia 🇦🇺. You made me laugh with your Alocasia zebrina. Have watched a few of your shows and have decided to subscribe. You are self effacing natural and funny. So new sub here. 😊
I can NEVER get a string of pearls to live, they always get root rot no matter what I do🥲
I agree with you on the pilea; won’t try it again. Thanks for sharing Emma!
I wanted a PPP so bad for so long that when they finally became available in my area over the summer I bought at least 4. 😂 Now I know why they’re called princesses. It’s not because they’re pretty and pink. It’s because they’re so high maintenance and fussy. One of the plants I got is completely dead, another is propagating after almost dying, another one the tip keeps dying so it has so many offshoots it’s turning into a small bush, and the other is huge but minimal pink. And of course every single one of them does the Cinderella slipper thing and I have to go in and release stuck leaves. 🙄 I’m still not giving up yet. I just bought another one last month for a fresh start. 🤦🏾♀️😂
I’m surprised yours are so difficult! I have 4 as well and they grow like weeds. I do have them under grow lights but my biggest issue I have w them are the stuck leaves. Almost every new leaf gets stuck. I’m going to give away 3 of mine and keep only the most highly variegated one bc they grow so quickly for me I just don’t have the room
@@sarahg2665 the ones that gave me the most trouble got left out in a rainstorm by accident. 😬 The others do grow pretty quickly. It’s just those stuck leaves and random browning I hate. Sometimes I get impatient and end up ripping the new leaf off while trying to free it. I definitely plan on getting rid of most of them eventually but for now I’m having fun experimenting with them. I’m so happy they’re more available. I found some extremely variegated specimens at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and my fave plant shop.
Literally got rid of my Birkin today! PPP last year as I didn’t like the reddish leaves. Had to get rid of most of my philodendrons as I just can’t seem to keep them looking good or growing. Have heard the melanochrysum being called a melanocrisis 😂
Loved my spider plants all of last year and early summer but they’ve not been right since our holiday when they were possibly overwatered 😢
I am with you! Nesrly all of them. Only Syngonium ... i somehow can grow the insanely big.
And with paradiso verde i dont know jet. I habe it since 4 to 5 weeks.
If you love frosted heart syngonium you will love chiapense! Tough as nails, very leathery and can grow massive leaves easily. Have similar leaf shape to frosted heart
Yes to so many of these. 1. Birkins. Just sit zombie like, doing nought. Same for Brasil's. 2. Any Pilea. Look at them funny and they become lemmings. 3. Spider plants. Pale, mushy and dull.
I am so with you on verrucosum. That traumatized me 💁🏻♀️😂 never again.
Lmao!! No lie just before this video I was looking at my pink syngonium neon robusta and saying to myself “what’s up with this weird patchy variegation?” It was so much pinker as a baby plant. 😮😂💖
I agree with your experienced with pink princess, peperronia, berkin, milano very same to ours. Add it up like verrecosum, plowmanii the worst. But, for paraiso verde i guess you need to transfer it to a bigger pot when it has about five to six leaves and enough lighting the whole day. Ours they like the place where i put them at the veranda wherein it gets 1 to 2 hours morning sunlight. And dont forget good potting mixed. For Syngonium and alocasia, just simply throw it at your backyard it will grow massively.
I love my white princess and white knight. I got the white princess as a starter and it's doing so good!
The spider plant death touch is hilareous. I have had 0 troubles with mine in fact its THRIVING, i just sort of think about it once in a while and i guess thats enough lmao.
I'm so happy for that for you 😂
Totally agree on the Pilea, mine is alive, but not thriving. I switched to only distilled water and organic food, and it seems to be happy enough although very tiny & skinny. I’ve had it for about nine months. It almost died but now maybe it’s just strengthening it roots? 🤷♀️ I agree on the dappled or variegated type, looking sickly. My Paraiso Verde is new. Still acclimating it, and thinking about adding a second one to make the pot fuller. I’ve heard that heat and light are essential so I’ve got it on a heat mat fairly close to a grow light. It’s cold here in the Midwest US and I keep my house rather cool. We’ll see.🤞☘️🌿My cats also are fascinated by my Draceana and anything spiky leafed!🤣 Also agree on the Berlin; not drawn to the stripes or the growing pattern whatsoever.
I'm so glad you said that about the PP & birkin. I've been holding on to mine but I'm not really enjoying them. I want to like the PP but I just can't grow it nicely 😅
It’s soooooo tough to get the ppp to grow well!
21:17 omg that zebrina is hilarious! Thank you for sharing this, it makes me feel so much better about my wonky plant journey 😅
isn't it just! It's just so awkward!! Never be ashamed of awkward plants, all plants are different & no plants are perfect!
That pinkish syngonium looked a bit like my cucumber plants at the end of the harvest season--sick and at the end of their lifespan.I wouldn't take it (or anything with this colouring) if I get paid for it!
My electric blue Colocasia-- I got multiple babies. They dry out easily w the soil. I then grew them in nutrient water and Pon. They don’t size up. They shrivel up very quickly. The ones that sizes up somehow mysteriously gets spider mites and I have to start all over again. Hate them so much now. (Actually I still love them, but they hate me).
The plant I’m so disappointed in is the 2 variegated Burl Marx I paid quite a bit for - I have one leaf left that var and it’s on its way out .
I love the green but paid paid for these .
As far as the BM Fantacy I have a ton it props so easily . Tfs ❤
When you mentioned the melano I was like “YES!” This plant is sooo sensitive. I sprayed mine with neem oil and it died. If you look at the new leaves they rip and they love to get caught coming out. It also gets fungus issues easily. I finally have two props that look ok, but they have to be inside, under a light and don’t even look at them. But I doubt I’ll ever have one that’s insta worthy lol 😂❤
Yeah that just seems like far too much faff for a plant…
Ah I featured a couple of times in this 😂 I dont own a birkin anymore but I remember it being such a hot plant, I do still have my zebrina black stem, but it’s not happy 🤦🏻♀️ I love my Pilea Peperomioides though 🤭
Hehe yeah but the ones I showed of yours were so beautiful!
I think it´s totally fair to try a few times and then just don't, it´s not worth stressing out over it. If you ever want you can try again, maybe in a few years or in a different home. I also love to see how different lists like this are for different persons, also "easy" house plant lists can vary a ton.
If you keep on trying with plants over and over again, don´t forget to try different substrates, like semy-hydro/pon with a self watering pot, if you didn´t do that already. I have my spider-plant in that for example and so many people write that theirs needs to completely dry out in-between watering, well mine love to have wet lechuza pon roots.
I´m not trying to get you to try again with any of them though!
For your zebrina, I think they always have really long petioles, even the big ones. I have one with ridiculous long petioles, got it at a plant swap as a corm, because I could not transport one of the ones that already had grown, the petioles are just too long to transport via bike :D
Great video. I gave away a few pink princess too. My pilea died. I never joined the Birkin craze.
Your accent is intriguing! I hear the British accent but not much at all. I’m so curious about this!
Omg I agree so hard on a lot of these!! Birkin, pink princess and money plants especially are just mehhhhh for me as well 😅😅
I have resorted to treating my verrucosum to a caladium. Everytime it gets spider mites (it's a guarantee at least once a year), I chop it all the way back and let it start from scratch haha, and now I know what to expect from it, I'm at peace. But I mean I much prefer my el choco to the verrucosum for a more dramatic splash of red.
Hi Emma 💫 I will NEVER try another Hoya Compacta. I have killed 3 now. The regular and variegated. I cannot figure out what they want. I see people have huge beautiful ones and I can’t keep them alive long enough to see one grow. It’s the Hoya I cannot grow and it’s frustrating. Good thing there’s plenty of other plants to love. 💫
The only plant I own that’s on your list is the PPP and I’m not so upset that mine isn’t very pink but it definitely isn’t sizing up.. even after I chopped it.. but it’s alive and I am ok with it
Spider plants also make my list of never again 😅 as did the Birkin and the pink princess philodendron's.
I also agree with the whole pink syngonium thing. They just don't look that pretty. I will say, however, that I do have a syngonium strawberry ice that I've been lucky enough that the pink variegation(so far 🤞🤞) hasn't mixed with the green and gotten that muddy look. So many strawberry ice syngonium can look absolutely atrocious while a few look really beautiful. I got lucky with mine. If I ever find myself not loving a plant, I just give it away to someone who wants it. Though sometimes I'm stubborn and just keep trying because, dang it, I want to love it😅😂
I enjoyed the video - such strong feelings lol! I thoroughly enjoy growing my money plants ( pilea peperomiodes) but pffft to each their own.🤷🏻♀️ I also like my birkin but I’ve had a few problems with it - I will keep it though. Spider plants…. Oh my, how do people keep them alive.🤦🏻♀️
Glad that I'm not the only one who struggled with it. I've tried spider plants since I started as beginner as they were always suggested to the ones who is just starting with plants. But no, they never survive, tried it in full sun, semi sun, semi shade and completely inside with dim light and none of them worked, it's been 3 years and I've tried Spider Plant 4 times and I'm just done with them for a long time!
Ferns, I know ferns thrive in cold weather. But they shouldn't just die in hot weather. Tried it twice and both died slowly. I've seen them healthy in other gardening places. I'm not gonna touch this anytime soon
And my pilea, it grew healthy and later died for unknown reason I didn't know. And I would like to try it again in future, hopefully soon and hope it survives.
Hello I'm a new subscriber My name is Bryan I saw you on another one of my plant channels with Patrick and this is the first video I've watched and I love it any advice I can get on plants to avoid because I live in Arizona is great thank you for the great content I'm going to be going through your channel🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hello and welcome 🥰
I agree with all of these 😂. I still have syngoniums tho. They constantly have spider mites 🙄
I love my syngoniums because i can neglect them and they just don't care 😂 I also had one pushed against a monstera which was RIDDLED with thrips and the thrips completely ignored it, I wonder if thrips have preference over their syngonium varieties!
I wont try any more peperomia, they just never seem that happy in my care. The only ones I have now have sentimental value, but I won't be overly bothered once they die...
I absolutely struggle with the Pilea Peperomioides too!!!
With you on pileas - they just grow wrong in my care. And once I saw really mature ones I was sort of over it. lol
I have gorgeous pilea peromiodes! But, I live in Wyoming USA! Love your content.
Yep pink princess and paraiso verde. Haven’t give. Up on my verrucosum yet though.
Happy to reach your channel! Have you tried copper antennas on your plants? I guess you should give it a try! I have tried it on my own and it works!
What do they do? Or is it just a trellis for support?
I am STRUGGLING with my verrucossum!!! It is currently in a small cloche….doing well BUT when it outgrows the cloche??? Goddess help it and me!!🤣🤣🤣
alright I'm gonna add to this while I'm watchig this:
1. PPP:100% agree. I'm not a fan of this plant at all. I don't like the way they grow and the variegation looked iffy and muddy most of the times. I had a small one that I got as a freebie when I bought another plant of a private seller on fb market place and all I did was put it in one of my mantis terrariums and when it died I just did not care at all
2. P. Paraoiso verde: Oh yeah I never really got why this plant is so popular. I actually don't really like the variegation and the way they like to grow ver leggy.
3. P. peperomioides: oh my gods I am so glad you agree. Pileas are really difficult for me as well for some reason, and honestly, I'm just not a big fan of how the plant looks after a while. The stem is so often bare at the base and it just ends up looking meh.
4. D. marginata: I had a very sentimetal relationship with this plant. i was the first plant I ever had waaaaay back when I was like 13 and I had it for around 3 years and it did really well.... until I went on a class trip for 2 weeks and my mom decided it needed to be outside in the 40 degrees Celsius hot sun because "it's totally a palm tree"..... yeah safe to say it burned to crisps and I didn't have any plants for years after that. So while I love that plant, I woun't get another one of these anymore, it just doesn't feel right.
5. P. birkin: I just absolutely hate how this plant looks and that is my reason for not wanting one lmao.
6. P. melanochrysum: OH MY GODS WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT AHHHHHH I regret getting a baby one of this as m first "rare" plant so much. It's so beautiful but for what priceeeeee. I sold it really quickly after getting it, and the only way I am getting any melano in my home from now is is gonna be through a P. splendid.
7. Syngoniums: I kind of agree. I have multiple syngoniums and I love how they look. The only way I can really keep then happy is in my terrariums and they look gorgeous in there!!! My faves are the red arrow, grey ghost, mojito, wendlandii and the regular albo variegata... and maybe the chiapense since it looks and behaves very differently. but yeah, I only grow them in my terrariums.
8. Spider plants: Like with the birkin: I hate the way they look and grow. I hate it so much.
9. Baby A. zebrina: OMG YES!!! baby zebrinas are so weird looking!!! Big ones are really pretty and grow beautifully!!! (I have a juvenile-ish one I am about to just stick in a (huge) terrarium, hoping it will look decent in there) But yea, baby ones? NAH FAM!!!
10. P. verucosum: I tried it ones. NEVER AGAIN. I had spider mites for the first time ever after getting this plant. AFTER ONLY ONE (1!!!!) WEEK OF OWNING THIS PLANT!!!! Like with the melano: Only gonna get verucosum into my home in form of the P. splendid. It's a shame, they are really pretty. While having this plant was the ONLY time I ever had spider mites, and I have like 25 "spider mite prone plants" (actually never mind I also had them when I had my frydek, that was basically the exact same experience I had with the verucosum now that I think about it)
Love your video didn't make me feel so bad about not wanting any of the plants you roasted😂😂 l'm wondering if living in Belgium has alot to do with certains of the plants you mentioned if you think UK is bad with lack of sun come to Belgium 😂😂😂😂❤❤
I too do not like any of the pink syngonium varieties! They either look muddy or sick 😀🇨🇦
I have the same 😂problems most the plants mentioned, here in Florida.
I agree with every single one of these! I thought I was alone in the spider plant deaths!
No! They’re sooo oddly difficult!
@katishaburrows7066 I'm holding funeral services for freakin' four spider plants right now☠️. Yes, I was delusional after the 1st death that I went out and brought more😵💫. Now, I just roll my eyes when I see them😠🪴
I think we all have different environments. I have tried plants that did not survive. My house does not have the best conditions for certain plants, so they die. With all the options available, I opt for the plants that thrive and look good. I do have spider plants. They are in my basement to just survive the winter. I will clean them up this spring. Then they will spend the summer outside where they look fine in a more shady environment. It is also a matter of economics. I do not want to spend my money on that just go down the drain.
I despised the Pink Princess the minute I saw it!
I never had a chance with my Verrucosum bc my cat destroyed it by batting it around and pulling it out of its propping vessel! I thk it's the most beautiful plant in the Philo family!
mine have been pretty pink but im sick of chopping them, im drawn to the dark/pink contrast
Except for the Chinese Money Tree & Syngoniums (which I've been OK with so far), I'm with you on the rest of your list....the hype is over! I've never owned a Melanochrysum, Verrucosum or a Paraiso Verde and NEVER will. And I'd like to add the Silver Sword to that list....have never been able to get it to grow well let alone size up (and I'm in Sydney where the climate is more temperate than the UK). No one can say you're wrong cos it's your opinion, your experience. Thanks for sharing them and making some of us feel like we are not the only ones who have struggled with these ones 🤦🏻♀🤩
Hello Emma! I do not hate u for ur thoughts! I have so many baby plants n they need so much!!!I just a punk princess bc I love pink n gif a great deal otherwise I be ok too😂 the Chinese money plant hates me too! 😂😢 I have birken too but only bc it was given to me!
I desperately want to make a verrocosum stay alive in my care. I LOVE the veining on the back and the fuzzy petioles and i just can not make it work. They're always getting spidermites and acting somehow both over and underwatered. They're a nightmare 😅
I have a zebrina & I’m finding it hard to keep alive! It is super thirsty & really annoying haha please teach me how to keep alocasias alive!! I had a alcocasia black stem that just died off… I have a alocasia green shield & it’s quite well!
How do you kill a spider plant? LMAO
My best plants are alocasias, Chinese evergreens, sygngomium, philodendrons meanwhile calathiums are my problem child dispite distilled water and humidifier.
calatheas can be super difficult depending on their environment. sounds like you're doing all the right things though!
My cat likes the skinny thin leaves too. She thinks spider plants, ferns, draceana's and pony tail palms are gifts for her to eat lol
I agree on every single one you mention. I'm quite over most philodendrons, exept Florida beauty and Florida ghost 😊 thx for a great video 🥰
For me watermelon peperomia. Every time I get one, it hates everything I try and just dies off 😢
