    The fact that this 90-something year old Priest is public enemy no. 1 to the Devil is honestly kind of comforting somehow. The image of him taking a slow drag of his cigarette after saying “I’m not afraid of the Devil, he’s afraid of me” with a stony expression just goes to show you how badass both the Greatest Generation and Italians are.

    As ever, I am deeply impressed with the respectful, neutral handling of potentially controversial and inflammatory topics like this. For those who devoutly believe in its reality, there are no slurs or denigration of their beliefs; for those who equally devoutly disbelieve, the information is presented as simply an objective retelling of the perspectives of a different faith. Well done to everyone involved in the process of creating this video!

    I like the point out that Father Gabriele seems not to mock mental illnesses and could distinguish various mental disorders from "demonic" possessions which is why his exorcism numbers were quite low. Lots of people claims to be possessed but Father Gabriele did not scam the patients with false pretense to garner wealth as he knew not to mock someone who is actually ill with mental disorders like schizophrenia, personality disorders, etc.

      For all the talk about science and religion somehow being opposed, that's not the case, and never has been. The Catholic Church, for all it's faults, has more often than not embraced science (Galileo was a political spat). They support a lot of genetic modifications of food crops, for instance, because they see it as a moral obligation to help feed the hungry. Mendel, the father of genetics, was a Catholic monk.

    • @thatfunkyduck
      @thatfunkyduck Před 4 lety +85

      Also the first thing he always emphasizes is the fact that like 99% of "possessions" are mentally ill people who aren't necessarily faking it, but for a variety of reasons are exhibiting the symptoms due to psychological reasons.
      But then there's that 1% of cases, the kind that come around MAYBE once every 1-2 years, and almost always involve a victim who had either recently dabbled in the occult, or who had someone suspiciously close to them who practiced "darker" things.
      THESE are the bizarre cases, the ones that seem to defy logical explanation.
      The 7 year old mentioned in the video, for example, who threw 5 grown men across the room with ease. The people who start speaking fluently in old languages they have barely even heard before. And yes, there really are an alarming number of eyewitness testimonies of acts of levitation by some victims, many given by very credible people.
      I don't know what to make of all it, but at the very least, it makes for entertaining reading! 😝

    Thank you for your respectful and open-minded treatment of this controversial subject. I am neither a clergyman nor a mental health specialist, but I have witnessed and experienced some things for which the Christian spiritual explanation is the most cogent and logical, at least to my understanding. We humans as a species have taken this spiritual battle worldview for granted for the bulk of our recorded history, and the current prevalence of mere materialism ignores that, or sweeps it aside unexamined, at the peril of us all. Open minds work both ways.

As a member of the clergy, I have on more than one occasion witnessed things that cannot be explained by modern psychology and psychiatry. It is my most fervent prayer that no one, ever sees these things for themselves. Though, I know that someone will.

I honestly feel sad for those who've never known they were Loved Unconditionally by Christ and who weren't given the blessing of Rock solid Faith....
    And time is short folks...Evil is alive and flourishing, preparing for war and wants to take as many folks as possible when judgement comes upon Christ's return...which is gonna be a lot sooner than most think...and so we stand on the edge of the tribulation period, which I hope and pray finds at least some of the lost souls desperate enough to consider giving Faith a chance.
    Christ Loves us all, even the worst if the worst and truly wants to deliver them all...they need only ask and accept his Love and guidance. Anyway, didn't mean to get all preachy, just felt compelled to try and share a bit of Love and hope to those tired of being lost and alone. GodBless everyone

    To answer the question posed at the end of the video, I'd like to give my perspective. As an agnostic atheist (and raised as such), I personally doubt that 'demonic possession' is the root cause of these cases, but I also believe that (once modern medicine has tried its best) exorcism may well be an effective therapy. The human mind is a fickle yet malleable thing, and if one is genuinely convinced that only exorcism will set them free, then the ritual nature and authority of the ordained priest may well be enough to break through the obsessive thoughts and impulses, allowing the patient to heal. In much the same manner as hypnosis can be used to treat compulsive disorders like OCD, PTSD, and anxiety, I think this ritualised trance and firm belief from all parties can, at the very least, relieve the symptoms of a person's demons, whatever their cause.
    Just stick to the text and don't DIY this stuff, same as any other treatment. Bleach and a Bible does not a trained professional make.

Think mothers lifting cars to save their children, which has been scientifically proven! As for the flying objects and supernatural voices, I'd say probably a mixture of shared belief and 'mass hysteria' / the same social forces that drive Pentacostal and Evangelical congregations to experience seizure-like episodes when driven to frenzy by their leaders. You see similar behaviours result from the concerts of bands with a strong cult of personality, as well as some political rallies. It's fascinating stuff!

  • @ElicBehexan
    @ElicBehexan Před 4 lety +15

    I belonged to a church that permitted "lay exorcism" and did preform a few. A lay exorcism isn't quite as... powerful... as a priest one, but one of the times I did it was to send on a ghost of a pet cat. This indicates that not all exorcisms are to drive out demons, but sometimes to send on ghosts. While my then roommate and I, and even another one of our cats, reacted to this cat ghost, after doing the exorcism and marking the spot with Holy Water, we never saw the ghost again. After a friend heard what we had done, she asked us to do it at her place. Neither she, nor her mother, had seen any sign of the spirit of the pet dog who had died, she didn't want to leave it in that apartment because they were moving.
    Many years later I had told a coworker about the sending on the ghost. She told me that when her father had been a child, he and his siblings had all been sick for quite a while, my co-worker said that the doctors had no idea why they were sick, and thought they might die. While they had been sick, one friend of the family had come every day to spend time with their mother. After about 3 months (can you imagine being sick for 3 months as a child?) another friend of their mother's, who was a practicing Catholic, had been there when the other woman arrived. After a short visit that day by the woman, the Catholic woman told his mother that the other woman wasn't a friend, she thought she might be housing a demon and she shouldn't be allowed to visit anymore. The next day when the woman showed up, his mother sent her away. Apparently they never saw the woman again, and all of the children recovered completely.
    So, when we had a temporary worker come into our unit, and we heard her story. A story about one long string of bad luck that started before she nearly died in a car accident and went right up to her working with us. This lady told us that the temp job she had right now was the best thing that had happened to her in some time. My co-worker asked me to do a lay exorcism on her. After much looking for the pamphlet I had used decades before and getting some Holy Water, we went into one of the offices and did it. In two months this woman had been offered a permanent job in the unit, had been awarded child support that had been held up for years and had a health issue that had been bothering her for almost a year be healed.
    Now, did the exorcism cause these things to happen? I don't know. I do know they happened.
