A couple of things! First, i hope this shows people that although a scuba tank exploding is not common, the results are disastrous! Notice that the door after the test was dislocated. You can go back to the unit before and after the test and see how the explosion dislocated the door. Imagine that tank exploding on the back of a human (that's one negative way to get a "ripped" body ☹)! Second, this device works! It is a safety device meant to stop people from dying or a boat from being destroyed. It does the job! Yay! Be careful people. Dive well!

It is a safety device. ... The fact is no one would be injured or killed using this. That is a good thing. No one complains that the airbag in their car only works once. It only has to work once to be worth it.

Very impressive safety tool. I have witnessed air tank explosions. The metal can rip a man into... bleed out in seconds!

Exploding scuba tanks is an extremely rare event. But catastrophic when it happens when filling with a gas. Testing is done with water if a cilinder fails it just cracks and leaks water. Filling tanks is best done behind a concrete wall. A small water bath doesn’t do much about the explosion but helps to cool the tanks while filling.

The biggest take away from all of this? The "Tick tick tick tick" sound before it blew. I've heard that sound before BLEVEs (boiling liquid expanding vapour explosions).

And that's why your tank valve should have a burst disk and regular visual inspections and hydro testing

Gutes Video !!!! Solche Füll Boxen sollten zur Pflicht werden

Nice. I'd say it's well worth it. It only has to work once.

The experiment is not meticulously presented: cylinder mayerial, cylinder rating, temperature. A video camera inside would have been great. I think it was a steel tank for firefighters with a normat pressure of 300 psi tested at 800.

Filling tanks submerged in a large water tank made of brick is how its done here, the explosions I have heard about were never bad.

  • @cook3744

A tank probably rated for 150-160 bar exploding at probably 315-320 bar I’d say is pretty reasonable! Nice blast cabinet tho!

Firstly and foremost. What was the tank rated to? And what was the actual reading of the pressure measurement? For all who may be interested, the "rated pressure of the tank" indicates at what pressure the air receiver tank can safely handle to operate efficiently without putting itself or anyone’s safety in danger. And then, and after all - yes!!! WOW! And KaBooM! And once again, WOW!

What was the tank rated to? 3000psi? They are tested at 1.5x nominal so 4500psi shouldn't be a problem
