You soon becoming a connector among tennis CZcamsrs. No one better than you for that role. Looking forward to those podcastvideo styles.
Thanks!
Just to add to this spread sheet, I spoke with Hubert Hurkacz 2 days ago at wimbledon and I did ask him the tension of his strings, he mentioned 22-23kg.
Good one!
Hi Jonas, Francisco Cerundolo uses a Grip 4 too, I saw him in a Espn interview and he said that uses that grip since junior years!
Very cool info, thanks, mate!!
Love the windows 95 style GUI of the specs sheet used by those stringers. If it ain't broke....
Hair looks good man!
Interesting - on the stringing spreadsheet I noticed one player with ProKennex. Quite (very) unusual; who is it and which of their racquets could it be? How many pros actually use their racquets? The company’s been subject to ownership changes but have they put more effort on producing pro racquets? I’m playing with their Qi Kinetic 310g (racing green colour) and am very pleased. Gives me the vibes of my old Prestige from the end of 90-ies but with much much less vibrations. The shape and box construction are very similar.
Most tour players use the racquet they played with when they were 13 years old!😮 Modified by more weigh but the same racquet never the less. Rublev is the exception to this however. 90% all of recreational players cannot hit with tour players racquets. Need to be 5.0+ NTRP.
Thanks 🙏
Look at Bublick and Kohlschreiber tensions. They use lower tension in the mains...
Hello Jonas! Talking about paint jobs, do yo know of any pro that uses Wilson H19 this days? Kind regards
ok, players change tension for different tournaments. do they change the weight of the racket, too? for example, wimbledon a bit faster surface, the racket a bit lighter? all the best
Where did you get the federer poster?
I want to correct you the steam is a power racket it’s equilbaent to the ezone except a lot less power and more feel and control I one the first edition blx 100 it was never marketed as a power frame
Alcaraz must have big hands as I can barely see any space between fingers when grabbing grip. I use grip size 4 as well and almost touch fingers while grabbing grip and so do a lot of pros.
Are you going to review the new angell react?
Just sharing a recent racket change spotting by a doubles pro player - Rajiv Ram at Toronto open is using Solinco Blackout now instead of his 2019 Pure Aero.
Cheers
Kunal
Thanks, Kunal! Well spotted
Nice hair style
Carlos hits relatively through the ball, I think the grip 4 gives him more stability.
For us 'humans' I think larger grips can be effective on heavy racquets.
There's a great article around that with larger grip sizes the hitting force can be increased... ;)
I use size 4, I do not have a large hand, but I can hold the racquet much better. Also the shape plays a role for more "round" shapes I use grip size 4 and for more rectangular like wilson or head I would prefer size 3.
@@RaphaClassic yeah I also prefer grip 3 on Wilson and 2 on Tk82 of Head, the small rounded grip slip a bit too much
Years ago I've played also with a grip 4 babolat
@@RaphaClassic I found Head and Wilson have the smaller pallets on the market. L4 feels relatively small compared to Babolat/Yonex..
why do they not use updated rackets instead?
is alcaraz using the new aero 98?
Hi Jonas, no doubt you already know about Tommy Paul leaving his entire set of Wilson Blades in his hotel room after trying a Yonex. I'm probably being horribly cynical, but I'm wondering if Nicholas Jarry giving away his Blades to the kids in the crowd after losing to Alcaraz at Wimbledon wasn't an entirely altruistic act? Do you happen to know the inside scoop? Thanks
Hi I didn't see Jarry giving away his racquets, is that true?
@@Tennisnerd Yes, it’s absolutely true. The sportscasters on The BBC were very impressed by Jarry’s generosity, especially after losing 😀 I just wondered if couldn’t stand the sight of them anymore, whatever the racquets were under their paint job, if there’d been one to begin with that is. PS I just wish Tommy Paul would have called me before dumping his 😂
What about berrettinis easy power
thanks as usual. I have a curiosity you might explain: how come players like Galan or Brouwer still “use” a Blade V7? (or whatever they have in the color of V7)
probably meant to represent a pro stock model of blade?? but not sure
They may not have sponsorship for newer racquets.
@@bengray5013 I have no idea how such contracts work: I thought Wilson will simply say 'we are updating the PJ to our latest model, so you use these now...'
@@idna_firry depends on ranking and results, also there’s players that may just get reduced costs on racquets (even at the pro level) and or they bought there racquets through standard retail outlets, so if a player is using an outdated cosmetic then it’s likely they are either not sponsored or partially sponsored. It’s quite common to see this in the doubles tour or from lower ranked players on the singles tours.
@@idna_firry and yeah if you're a top ranked player with a full racquet sponsorship then the racquet company will give you your particular racquet mould of choice with the updated cosmetic (or not he cosmetic of whichever racquet model your ure paid to endorse)...
at this point, it's better to list the pro players using a more or less off the shelf racquet. I've heard ALcaraz' racquet isn't heavily modified and now that the Pure Rafa is pretty close to his actual frame.
The old Pure aero vs was basically almost a pro stock version of the regular pure aero in my opinion, all vs line is.
Yea, Alcaraz specs unstrung are supposedly 305g, 31.7cm or something, and a 295 swing weight.
So roughly strung that's going to be like 32.6cm with a 325 swing weight or so. So pretty much around a stock Babolat Pure Aero 98.
I think what's being missed though is that it's very likely Alcaraz has a lighter batch that's sent to a customiser and then it's weighted up to those near stock specs. So there is probably something like silicone in the handle and some lead around 12 o clock under the bumper. That's going to change how the racket feels a little bit.
The Pure Aero Rafa Origin is probably rather close to what Nadal actually uses yes. It's even got different string spacing to the other Aeros in the lineup right now, even next to the lighter Pure Aero Rafa, so it's not just a weight change etc.
compare Steam 100 with Blade prolabs
I think Nico Jarry may even hit harder than Alcaraz and Sinner
Painting racquets to make them look like another model should really be treated as fraud. The Wilson Blade is nothing like the Steam--they're almost opposites. It is impossible to seriously argue that there is no intent to mislead in cases like this. Very few woman have any business trying to use a Blade (and not many male Rec-level players either.) Just release a new version of the Steam and be done with it!
The Wilson shift is basically a Steam from my understanding
Companies don't like to keep a tonne of moulds around for mass production. Too much overhead for them.
They would rather make more profit with fewer mass production molds.
@@amanjain4817 yep. And to keep business rolling they need to update the molds and/or paint jobs every few years or so. Hence the situation the whole thing is in.
You've got guys like Nadal, Sinner, Berretini and so on using older models of the lines they endorse and that's fine I think. It's bad business if those guys retain the original paint job for their rackets.
I think, however, that it's not quite the same when you have players endorsing lines they've never used. It's even worse when they use a mold that's completely different to the one they endorse, and that's where I somewhat agree with the OP.
It's not fraud it's marketing.
Hence the term “endorsed by” instead of “used by”, so no it’s not fraud at all...
Alacariz is using grip 4 because he has wrist arthritis
well... im 41 and i dont have my own house... guess im not that lucky...
There are quite a couple of theories that Alcaraz uses a leather grip which would make a grip size 4 normal
Is that you ? Harry potter 😂
don't understand why they don't just re-release the steam 100 or similar racquet... it's kinda weird how almost all Wilson players play with a Blade PJ... so you're marketing Tsitsipas racquet to the same people watching Raducanu... and supposedly those 2 audiences want the same green racquet. Why don't they at least make the Steam players play with an Ultra PJ?
also, all Wilson racquets look so bad on TV - the weird PJ was super cool at the beginning.. but now you have to squint to see what Wilson racquet people are playing with... knowing full well it's all BS.
Babolat, Head and Yonex product placement with their pro's is way clearer.
41? I thought you were 32-35.
Really?! I thought he was 17!!
This comment deserves endless thumbs up!
Haha, keep going! :)
Serena used 4G and gut
Lucas Van Assche is a male player in the Steam « Blade » bandwagon!
You don't look 41.
I take that as a compliment :) or you might mean I look like 51...haha
I think companies need to find a way to sell new racquets but also have the consumer understand that the racquets the pros using are not always objectively better. I never really understood why people want to use what the pros are using. Equipment is important but pros got to where they are at solely from their skill level and they’ve been using the same racquets theyve been using since they were juniors. Worry about improving your tennis 🤌
