I test rode a TCX with a SRAM 1 X. I liked it . I don't know what year it was (baby blue with red lettering) It put my trek FX 2 disc to shame. It would fit comfortably into my fleet alongside my two Cx bikes. ( One with a carbon fork and the other steel fork )
I did a 3 mile loop on it testing acceleration, comfort and stopping power The test included gravel, flats climbing and descending.
This bike was born to race. On gravel bigger tires are best 38 40
. As far as chainrings, 40 was barely enough for me. Definitely not a fan of SRAM double tap but I could adjust to it😊
Nice bike & good review. for that slow shifting cog it might be worth checking that cog and the ones either side for one or more slightly bent teeth. Happens sometimes and doesn’t take much. For the seat-post wedge creaking when you're torquing it, a little anti-seize (not grease) might help ✌🏻
We bought a used TCX Adv. for our son to use as gravel bike last Summer and I ended up racing CX on it last Fall. I rode it this Winter as a Winter road bike and now I'm sold on it. I own a TCR and a Revolt yet I still will get me a TCX of my own for CX and Winter or sloppy riding duties. I behave much like a road bike on the Road compared to a Gravel bike with road tires.
Does the giant tcx feel as fast and good on road as the tcr and revolt?
@@vincentverstappen7351 the TCX behave more like a road bike than the Revolt. I can’t tell how slow compared to the TCR it is but it’s definitely quicker to respond to driver input than the Revolt.

I ended with a 2018 TCX SLR 2 in january, and so far it replaced my mtb and road bikes. Yeah it sounds odd but this bike just lets me do everything i want: go to mountains, ride gravel trails, ride long distances (+100K). I think i'm at a point that i want to keep this as my all around bike and not try others, because maybe that's when i could see the differences. I know maybe getting a road bike would fit better for those +100K tarmac or asphalt rides and this can't do everything my Scale does, but it's the better in-between point because here you have to ride a lot to get into good trails.
I'm still flogging a 2016 TCX Advanced Pro1 (exactly like your old one) that i bought used. Big guy at 230lbs, and it works incredibly well for me. I do have Chris King/Stans wheelset, Brooks C17 saddle and wider bars. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another of I ever kill it. The only yhings that i would change are the "overdrive" headset and the Dfuse seatpost. Not because they are bad, but because they are oddballs and limit aftermarket changes. No biggie.
The D-Fuse is the best seat post I’ve ever ridden. I’ve been racing my Revolt for two years now and it’s been great.

with the clutch system on most rear mechs now do we even need a big heavy chain guard on the chainstay?

Thanks for the review Clint!!! I come from an old CX bike (57cm) and look for a new one and the Giant seems to be exactly what I am looking for. The only point is, I don't find here a store which offers it and I ask myself about the size. I am 1.83m with 87 inseam and between ML/L. What is your size please? What would you recommend?
My inseam is 78.7 and my height is 173. At your height I recommend a Large.

Where do you race cyclocross?
We used to have races all over Florida (around eight weekends during the season ). Now there’s only one left, which is in the Gainesville area in January. It’s called Swamp cross. The organizer does a fantastic job putting it on.
This bike is 2,000 dollars overpriced in todays market. A FULL 12 speed ELECTRONIC GRAVEL groupset is only 250 bucks, and they cant put it on a 500 dollar frame, and still charge you 3,000 bucks in 2024 for a GRAVEL bike?
