What a day this was. Gus Johnson with the call for the Louisville OT comeback, and Dick Enberg on the mic for Illinois' crazy OT comeback against Arizona.
LVille fan and still most stressful game of my life. "This kid is a legend in the state of WV" "taquan dean...baseliiiiine!" Gus Johnson was amazing. WV was amazing. Comeback was amazing. Epic college hoops game. Thanks 4 the upload.
Ya this was the first louisville team I started watching when I was like 12 and 13. When I got into watching lville sports for myself, not just watching with dad. But I remember walking away when they pulled ahead at the end, with like 4 min left in the game, and thinking that the elite eight was great and that we were literally one of the top 8 teams in the country, I remember just feeling proud about that, and how I've never seen louisville make it that far in person, then all of a sudden I hear my dad start screaming and shit and I run back to his room to catch the comeback !! And we just screamed and celebrated and cheered, high fived, everything! Great memories!!
I remember watching this game at the newly built Cardinal Cafe. The place was a madhouse. You had to have a reserved seat. It's ironic how some of these coaches would meet multiple times for some of the instant classics in college basketball. Beilein and Pitino would meet again for the 2013 national championship and that game was an instant classic also. Man, this one was a barn burner.
This was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. Can you imagine that Elite 8 weekend? This game, the crazy Illinois/Arizona game that followed, UNC/Wisconsin was better than expected, and topped off by the wild double OT UK/MSU game. Has there ever been a better Elite 8?
That Elite 8 weekend was bonkers. The closest I can think of was in 1992, but it was the Duke/UK game and the Michigan/Ohio St game that was memorable. But yeah that was the Best Elite 8 weekend ever.
LOVED this team, entertaining to watch them. So many players that put in 110%, especially Gansey and Herber. But D'or was very underrated on this team, he was solid.
Damn, I remember this one! This Elite 8 was 4 incredible down-to-the-wire affairs with 3 of them going to OT, including 2 double OTs if I'm not mistaken.
Honestly this West Virginia team sort of changed the game of basketball, their style of offense would later be perfected by the Golden State Warriors, and also nowadays everyone wants a big that can shoot like Pittsnogle
Interesting stat about UL being 7-1 in regional finals. Now the Cards are 10-3 (Losses: TWICE against UNC both times in the EAST region, and Michigan State - 2009)
The parallel to this game was the 2012 Elite 8 game against Florida, which the Gators were 8-11 from three point range (led 41-33 at halftime) in the first half, shredding the zone defense. West Virginia made 10 threes, finished with 18 of 27 shooting from that spot. It's very rare to see a center (Pittsnogle, who was 6 of 9) shoot threes that often (MSU's Goran Suton - 2009 was another example)
Wisconsin became the first team since Louisville (2005 - played in Nashville the first weekend) to advance to the Final Four out of the WEST after playing a Fri/Sun pod the first weekend (Wisconsin spent the first weekend in Omaha, which is slightly closer to Madison than Louisville was this past season)
The Lights out shooting token white kid has always been our kryptonite. ( cant forget about Hansboro in 2008) Oh Spike Albriecht in the final. Travis Deaner from Marquette back in the day. Mcnamara from Syracuse. i could go on all day.
FACT: Since 2004, Louisville is the ONLY team in a WEST region bracket to play a first weekend game in a Fri/Sun pod (Nashville) and make the Final Four.
One guy today that reminds me of Tyler Hansbrough is Doug McDermott, who some sports analysts are fawning over, leading to the notion that the Bluejays could win the Big East regular season. Frankly, i'd say either Marquette or Georgetown could win the regular season.
If Rick could of sealed the deal with Sean May and got him to commit. May was the center for UNC, Louisville would of won it all in 2005. Oh well Pitino got his title over Beline in the 2013 title game! Go Cards!!
And it was against a school he almost became the coach of (Michigan), not to mention he lost to it when he took Kentucky to their first Final Four (1993) since 1984.
I remember this game Wvu blew out to a big lead and appeared heading to the Final4 but then rick pinto call a time out for louieville and it was over louieville won ..lol
Strange coincidence seven years later, in that Peyton Siva fouled out around that span in the Elite 8 game against Florida (Gators led 65-64 at that point).
All referees should no longer be able to ref high level sports after age 45. The speed of the game moves too fast. Several times during the game I have heard whistles before any contact or infraction. The refs are anticipating the calls because they no longer can process the information fast enough or can not see the infraction because their eye sight has deteriorated. The goaltending call on Garcia at the 57:10 mark was a clean block. The guy was trying to finger roll the ball over the rim, never was going to use the backboard. Did the finger roll to avoid Myles and never saw Garcia. Refs were going to call a foul but instead changed it to goaltending after no contact was made. The whistle blows almost at same time as Garcia blocks it. This is the reason I can not stand NCAA, the ole boys network lives on. A block call at 1:19:25 is crazy. Another call that the old man has to anticipate because he can longer keep pace mentally and physically. This game was refereed horribly on both ends for both teams. Plenty of calls that were called turnovers on WVU that were clearly fouls and vice versa. Referees should have to have physical done every year to gauge fitness, mental acuity, and eye sight. Crazy but they do not have a single test year to year. Once in the club, you are good.
For real? Damn, Mack in his 2nd season has his team @17-3/8-1 in ACC play, and ranked 6th. A lot could change, but sorry. Not even close to a DePaul fall off! Thats asinine and disrespectful. Could've at least said IU or something. Macks recruiting well too..After the NCAA leaves us alone...Louisville will still be a power. Sorry bro.
Anybody know who the clown of the play by play guy is? Or who his stat guy is? Ya would have thought he might have thrown in a stat or 2 about Pitino's Kentucky teams coming back from being down 20...or 30 at LSU...just sayin'
The "clown" is Gus Johnson, widely regarded as one of the most exciting PBP announcers ever to do March Madness. Get off your pedestal, bozo. You suck. You suck a lot.

I 100% agree. I think I had a heart attack watching this. But it was the best game I ever saw.

this was around the same few years our football and basketball team used to do battle with WV i miss these days

Best UL game ive ever seen in my life...never forget it...ever! The city went nutz! Hats off to WV they came to ball

Dude your AWESOME ! Just telling a friend I wouldn't mind looking at some old games ..and my wish came true .. THANK YOU !!!!
Thanks for posting this. Its nice to remember why we call them the "Cardiac Cards". #L1C4
I watch this game live back in 05 and I sttill get nervous watching it in 2019. 1 helluva of a game.
Thanks for the upload. I'll surely never forget nearly getting "Pittsnoggled"
It's still hard to believe we blew that big lead.
OMG ...JUSTIN THANK U FOR THIS CLASSIC SIR!!!!!!!!!
Damn, I remember this one! This Elite 8 was 4 incredible down-to-the-wire affairs with 3 of them going to OT, including 2 double OTs if I'm not mistaken.
And the one that didn't go to OT was a well played 88-82 game between UNC/Wisconsin.
Honestly this West Virginia team sort of changed the game of basketball, their style of offense would later be perfected by the Golden State Warriors, and also nowadays everyone wants a big that can shoot like Pittsnogle
Interesting stat about UL being 7-1 in regional finals. Now the Cards are 10-3 (Losses: TWICE against UNC both times in the EAST region, and Michigan State - 2009)
I remember our whole staff was in the break room during overtime we closed the store lol
Wow... I remember this game as if it was yesterday. Go Cards!
I use to be a sports head and I remember crying so bad when Louisville was getting hit hard by wv
Louisville was fantastic ❤️😁

Hell of a game
6:45 Louisville beat LSU in the 1980 regional final. The Cardinals beat Iowa in the Final Four.
Still the best NCAABB game of all time. Beilein's revenge this weekend
The Lights out shooting token white kid has always been our kryptonite. ( cant forget about Hansboro in 2008) Oh Spike Albriecht in the final. Travis Deaner from Marquette back in the day. Mcnamara from Syracuse. i could go on all day.
Pitino vs. Beilein. Definitely not for the last time.
FACT: Since 2004, Louisville is the ONLY team in a WEST region bracket to play a first weekend game in a Fri/Sun pod (Nashville) and make the Final Four.
Michael Stallworth Now 10-4, with both losses being to UNC and Michigan St.
Rick said in the press conference that he thought it was Brandon Jenkins who picked up that reach in foul.
One guy today that reminds me of Tyler Hansbrough is Doug McDermott, who some sports analysts are fawning over, leading to the notion that the Bluejays could win the Big East regular season. Frankly, i'd say either Marquette or Georgetown could win the regular season.

All of West Virginia’s 18 made three pointers were in regulation. They made zero in overtime.
Ellis couldn't hit a free throw to save his life.
in the early going Louisville have no idea that they have been PITsnoggled to say the least
It sure was.
Now look at us smh…
i hate when that happens in the ncaa tournament so sad
I remember this game Wvu blew out to a big lead and appeared heading to the Final4 but then rick pinto call a time out for louieville and it was over louieville won ..lol
I forgot 'Cisco fouled out with 4 minutes left.

Beline lost this game on the boards ! Should have put a bigger man in the backline of the 1-3-1 zone!
1:35:51
Right outside of
try entering in Elite 8 and not Sweet 16
Hell ya. F wvu
That linkin park 'Points of Authority' intro got me fired up
WVU got robbed in this game

I have hated Louisville ever since this game!! WVU beat WVU as usual.
try ncaa dot com/march-madness-live/
All but the semis are on there.
This is all Louisville has now is glory days of the past. Their program is going out like DePaul did in the 80’s
For real? Damn, Mack in his 2nd season has his team @17-3/8-1 in ACC play, and ranked 6th. A lot could change, but sorry. Not even close to a DePaul fall off! Thats asinine and disrespectful. And you subscribe to Justin, so you're actually a Louisville fan???????? Gtfoh
Frank from Lexington, get lost.
Dwayne Louis I was a Louisville until they ran Pitino out and hired a mid Major coach
@@frankwhite1895 then don't come back...

I smell a Kentucky fan. Only Big Blue could find a way to spoil the glory that is Gus Johnson.
