    I fractured my elbow in several places after a skiing accident years ago and eventually developed epicondylitis on the opposite side from the largest chip fracture (which is still floating! very cool to see on my x-rays). I watch a lot of these videos because, as a medical coder, I like to understand what I'm indicating in a patient's records but this one was especially interesting to recognize all the tests and whatnot from my own visits with an orthopedic dr.

    i spooked the doctor doing my entrance exam for the army. my elbows can hyper extend. he thought he had done it to me by accident. he spent a good 10 minutes playing with my arms since it was the first time he had actually seen it personally. he obviously understood what it was, but never seen, so he just kept moving my arms and asking if it hurt or was uncomfortable, testing thresholds. i was amused by him being so amused.

  • @jg8263
    @jg8263 Před 2 lety +5

    Busted up my left arm about 15 years ago, downhill mountain biking and clipped a tree with my hand and forearm. Every once in a while since then, my arm will lock up going into extension, but I can grab my wrist with the other arm, give a pull, and it pops (hurts like hell for a minute) and full range is restored. Hell of a thing to live with, but the hand injury from it was worse. I cannot properly bend my ring and little fingers any more and had to give up playing guitar.

    Very interesting video Dr Gill. I dislocated my left elbow when I was 10 years old and a vividly remember being told that I would have to live with it as they couldn’t get the joint back into the socket. I’m now 34, can do most things with the arm but there is a significant reduction in the extension of the arm and by God, it hurts if it’s knocked ever so slightly. Doesn’t help either that I have hyper mobility in my joints either.

    • @alexmcglynn4845
      @alexmcglynn4845 Před 2 lety +5

      @@DrJamesGill they attempted surgery to manually restore the joint but it wouldn't pop back in. The other option if I remember right was to have the bone broken then pins in place through the arm to guide it back into position. Mother didn't wish for that so they said I may be able to live with it and my body may form a "false joint" around the dislocation.

    Another great video as always! The human body is fascinating. This helps me better understand the mechanics of my arm/elbow and why it’s sore sometimes after straining it at work from a poor/repetitive movement/heavy box (I unload trucks and restock the sales floor at a retail store and because of my proprioception issues I’m sometimes very clumsy and prone to hurting myself as a result). Appreciate the explanations very much 🙂.

    Time for a fun elbow story! So, sometimes I have this weird thing happen, where I can’t extend my elbow fully, just a few degrees from full extension, at least when I move slowly. But when I extend my arm quickly, I hear a cracking sound, like cracking your knuckles, and then I can extend my elbow just fine, no problems. Is this something that happens to anyone else? I’m curious!

    Interesting to hear about your ulnar nerve. I trapped a nerve doing heavy deadlifts many years ago and I was told the issue would radiate down via the ulnar nerve. I already have bad circulation and all of my fingers go numb at different times. Doc suggested cubital tunnel syndrome...so wondering if one can have both that and carpal simultaneously. I still lift weights but deadlift less now for sure and overhead pressing and vertical pulling movements are definitely impacted.

Sometimes when I feel this and I push through it anyway, as the elbow moves into a “straight” position there’s a string at the back that glides over something. It’s really uncomfortable and I’m worried if I do push ups it actually gonna snap haha.
