  • As ELS 502 and 501 cross thru Iron Mountain, MI's NO TRAIN HORN ZONE you can see them creeping along because local drivers ignore the railroad crossings and just go out in front of the train.

    Right Jason! Perhaps Iron Mountain could fund its entire budget from tickets issued to those who disobey STOP signs and crossing signals.

    It's not like ELS is running 150 freight cars on their trains. Most trains will clear the crossing in 5 minutes or less. What's the hurry?

    Many commenters complain about the drivers, but I live in the area. There are no gates on any of the cross streets in the video, and twice I’ve rolled up to a crossing with no lights or bells and yet a train was in front of me. And, one of those was literally next to the fire and police stations. Yes, there are stupid drivers, but the state, county, township, and railroad are not doing what needs to be done to protect the public and the railroad employees!

    Maybe those ones saying they are going slow shouldn't be too bad. Try taking on say ELS 402 so the engine by itself weighs 250 thousands pound and not taking into consideration the cars it is pulling. Try stopping going 25 mph would take roughly one tenth of a mile so think about that.

    Where I live, we have the same problem. At some crossings, they race the train before the gates go down. I've noticed some are getting upgraded with gates. One other bad thing, on the CPKC mainline that goes through the city (east and west) there's only 2 crossings and they do NOT blow their horns at all

    It's a complete disregard for the law. FLASHING RED LIGHTS MEAN STOP AND DO NOT PROCEED! Do these drivers do the same for a school bus? Okay, the only time a flashing red light can be proceeded on is at an intersection where it acts like, or in conjunction with, a stop sign. This is not the case here. Does Iron Mountain have a police department? Local law enforcement should be keeping better tabs on the situation, and making examples of these scofflaws before a tragedy occurs.

    Jason I can't believe that is a " no-train-horn" zone with no gates; just lights !?!? We have one down here in Decatur, Alabama at the old L&N station it had gates and lights before and when they decided to make it no-train-horn for the Historic district they added a concrete berm down the centerline of the road to prevent Cars from crossing the centerline to go around the gates when they had trouble with the gates and lights they had to revert back to using the train horn as I captured in one of my videos on my channel but being there I'd so much traffic up in Michigan you would think the MDOT would care more for it's citizens!! Keep up the good videos if I ever get up to UP MICHIGAN would you take me on an emberglow hunt? I miss those videos very interesting casual videos with great scenery !!

  • @georgetabback9084

    At a minimum, gates (if not quadrant gates) are needed. In NJ, you cannot have a quiet zone unless there are quadrant gates installed, at the expense of the town, from what I understand. Do better, Michigan.

      @@TylerDonitzen-777 You need an obstruction. Signs don't work. People tend to obey traffic lights more. Put traffic lights in there that preempt when trains approach. But they're more expensive; full length of the roadway gates would be effective.

    They creap through town, because their tracks are that bad, NOT, because of dumb people pulling out in front of them, if they could go any faster, they would go faster, but they can't go faster, or the train could jump the tracks! I don't know why, that too cheap of a railroad doesn't actually properly repair the tracks on their line. TERRIBLE RAILROAD, very sloppy in their work. I live in Central Pennsylvania, very near Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, we have a short line Railroad, called the Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad, their tracks are in excellent shape, they replace them when they need to replace them, their tracks, years ago, use to be part of the now defunct, Reading Railroad. This railroad that you video, MUST, be managed POORLY, because, they should be able to run on good rail, it's a very poorly managed railroad that doesn't properly maintain their tracks.

    • @erie910
      @erie910 Před měsícem +1

      Then why does the train increase its speed after the head end has passes the last crossing? The bulk of the train is still on what you call "bad track."
