  • The ah 64 apache helicopter | the ah64 apache helicopter is a revolutionary development in the history of war. It is essentially a flying tank -- a helicopter designed to survive heavy attack and inflict massive damage. It can zero in on specific targets, day or night, even in terrible weather. As you might expect, it is a terrifying machine to ground forces.
    In this article, we'll look at the Apache's amazing flight systems, weapons systems, sensor systems and armor systems. Individually, these components are remarkable pieces of technology. Combined together, they make up an unbelievable fighting machine -- the most lethal helicopter ever created.

Just getting the damn thing off the ground without overcompensating and drifting sideways into a wall takes practice. Flight training with a helicopter puts you through a lot of exercises that simply involve taking off, hovering without drifting, and then landing in the same spot, because even in a private/commercial helicopter it's hard to do that.

    • @mage3690
      @mage3690 Před 4 lety

      It don't, which is partly why they're going with radar guided missiles today. As for why that wouldn't work on radar, radar guided systems work like more of a flashlight-camera system looking for reflections rather than using a laser on one tiny point. You could use flat mirrors to mostly reflect the light away from the source, which is the entire point of the F-117, so that works. Any curves so the edges aren't sharp and you're right back where you started, though. Then you need to cover the whole thing in radar absorbing paint just for good measure, which is expensive and rather thick due to the physics of reflecting long wavelength light.

    The Apache & the A-10 Warthog working together for our ground troops is such a beautiful thing. Goddamn beautiful I say! You won't win....
    Edit - I wonder if we can figure out a way to put A-10 gatlin gun on an Apache helicopter.( Have to make the heli would have to be double in size probably but so..........!!!!! Gotta be a way!!!!!!!! Think! Haha. Seriously though.........

      Both are 30MM rounds. I flew the 64 for 20 years and learned a lot about the 10 from another 64 driver buddy who was. USAF Crew chief on the 10 prior to The primary his Army service. As I was told, the primary difference between the two 30MM rounds is the size of the shell that houses the powder that propels the rounds. The 64 moves at slower speeds than what an A-10 requires for flight in an attack dive so it doesn’t require the range the 10 needs. Both are high explosive rounds.

    • @mrgrinch837
      @mrgrinch837 Před rokem

      It actually uses three different techniques. The black hole infrared suppression system, infrared flares in the dispenser and low level flying makes it very difficult for a heat-seeking missile to lock on. All three make it very very tough to take it out with a shoulder fired Sam.

      It has an infrared suppression system, it has an infrared jammer, it flies low to blend in with the foliage which makes it harder track. And when you fire off that missile and you have that nice white smoke showing exactly where you are, all they have to do is turn their eye towards you and pull the trigger and you disappear into red mist. The saying goes, you can kill a skunk by stepping on it but are you willing to pay that price?
