    Thank you Katrina. Though I am sorry you have had this experience, you may well have helped us all by showing us what to do.

    Sorry for the loss of your rhubarb. And thank you for the warning. I think the most important is the prevention (be careful with watering). Probably this fungus is already in the soil (everywhere) and it attacks weakened plants.

    Exactly the same happened here. Trouble is we get an awful lot of rain here in SW Scotland during the winter and the ground gets waterlogged. Thankyou for your tips. I haven't removed it yet, but its my first job today!

    It's a shame that the rhubarb died, but the allotment looks so beautiful already. I am so looking forward to your April garden tour. ☀️💐

    That's 😭 the Rhubarb got crown rot. I planted rhubarb the first year of getting my plot and it was 3 varieties and only one variety has survived because the other two got crown rot. Thanks for sharing this video Katrina.

    I've lost two rhubarb plants to crown rot in the last few years. Breaks my heart because I really like rhubarb. So this is welcome information in my efforts to protect my remaining plants.
    I have one rhubarb plant that acts like a weeping rhubarb. That is it grows flat on the ground. None of the stalks will grow upwards. I've never seen anything like it. It's taken three years to establish itself to the point I may be able to harvest a few stalks this year, maybe. Gardening does sometimes have its mysteries.

    I really do enjoy yours videos. You could use Trichoderma Harzianum is a fungos that is also used as a fungicide. It is used for foliar applications, seed treatment and soil treatment for suppression of various disease causing fungal pathogens. Thank you very much indeed.

    My Rhubarb has done exactly the same this year. I will have to look at what I can do with the soil as the rhubarb was in a large planter with salad crops and I need to remove the planter. They’re in my garden though so slightly concerned it will spread to other parts.

    Thanks for the video, was the only info I could find about crown rot for rhubarb. I am pretty sure that's what has happened to all our plants. We dug up one crown and the roots have that same pumpkin colour but not as mushy as yours in the video, more spongy texture. Would it still be crown rot, but progressed less? What colour are the roots normally?

    Could you water heavily with Jeyes fluid to kill the ground spores of fungus, by "dumping" the infected soil surely you are transporting the infection to another site, why not use the flame gun on the soils when is spread out thinly on the ground, that would kill off all spores. Chris B.

    • @homegrowngarden
      @homegrowngarden  Před 2 lety +1

      Once you have it there's not a lot you can do. It might be worth trying if the disease hasn't taken hold yet but once it attacks the roots it's hard to reach with cinnamon anyway.

    Also Phaecilia is a soil cleaner.
