One of the first things I noticed about this band was the rhythm section. Akane Hirose on drums and MISA on bass are so in sync with each other and the rest of the band. Yeah, I like MISA's sly little smile too. She's the typical bassist ... pretty stoic, doesn't have much to say, avoids the spotlight, but she does like rocking out and she likes taking her turns at the front of the stage. She's one of Band-Maid's secret weapons and they deploy her on unsuspecting newbies with ruthlessness. If they could find Ruth they'd deploy her with Ruthness. The song just before this one was *"Dice"* which has a pretty good music video. It also features MISA.
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

The main vocalist is someone that grows on you. I wasn't quite sold on her either in the beginning, but the instrumentations were just so good that I continued listening to it. Although her voice felt a bit too poppy for me, I definitely noticed that she sings in a lower register than the contemporary artists in Japan. What I discovered is that her voice fits a wide variety of songs, and Band-Maid are very good in utilizing that. Now I cannot imagine anyone replacing her. My favorite song lives on her vocals, and I would not have imagined that the first time I listened to Band-Maid.

I liked your reaction and your comments! Others have already said it, but for more amazing bass I second Influencer MV and Manners/Black Hole Official Live. My constructive note would be to make your self larger & higher resolution, and the original video smaller, because you were hard to see (even on full-screen). And I, for one, watch reactions to see peoples expressions (I know there're viewers out there who like to see a big video, without interruption, but that doesn't make any sense because you could just watch the original video).

I love it when people go in blind but I'll tell you that the bassist was all of thirteen during this performance (you'll see how jaw-dropping that is).

Interviewer: On CZcams, I see the same comment all the time: “Wow! They can really play their instruments!” Why do you think people are so surprised by this? What do you say when you hear these comments?
Miku: I think it’s because people have a strong image of “idols” about Japan. I’m genuinely happy about the comments. I want to show “We’re not just the look!”!!
Saiki: We’re looked down because of our look, I guess. But we get to change people’s minds.
Kanami: That’s right. We’re really playing! It’s not air-guitar! We practice so hard every day! (laughs)
Misa: It’s natural to think “Can young-looking, cute girls really play such a heavy sound or play the double bass drums?” I think. If I was just a bystander, my response would probably be the same.
Akane: It’s absolutely a prejudice, so we prove our skill through live shows.

The lyrics were written by the vocalist Saiki. Not about her being hurt , but about the husband of a friend who cheated on her. Saiki was not amused. Did you catch the ultimate male putdown/ insult that she sang "10 minutes of limp gymnastics. Yes the bass guitar conversation was great. Kanami the guitarist the main composer is unselfish in that she writes songs that allows all the members to shine.
Honestly I was distracted by the bass I did not catvh that lyric at first. 🤣

Band Maid is my favorite rock band. Japan also has 2 of my favorite metal bands, both all female in Nemophila (try Zen live) and Hanabie (I Love Sweets mv). The other band which has become my favorite band over these last 7 years is Jinjer out of Ukraine. Jinjer also has a female vocalist. Weird for 50 years very few female fronted metal bands I really loved and now they dominate my playlist.

They don't have a bunch of bass solos, but the band is very "bass forward". If you watch Misa during most of their songs, she is very busy. And you can easily hear her.

Minor correction, it was a bass lead by MISA, Akane on the drums was SMASHING it in support of her and Kanami on lead guitar. You can also hear Miku helping fill in if you listen carefully. Saiki's vocals are also legendary.
While they would call themselves "rock", they have a huge range of influences on this - you really should check out more of their work.
It seems you're more into "metal", so perhaps the J-Metal bands like "Lovebites", "Hanabie", and the like will also be to your taste? Japan has some REALLY good female metal and rock bands!

I get you on the Baby Metal angst. I feel it, too. Therefore. I challenge you to listen to Hanabie. "We Love Sweets" or "Otaku Lovely Densetsu". They are the antimatter of Baby Metal. I don't know if you'll love them, as I do. I do know you'll be extremely entertained.
Also, is perfectly all right if you don't like Saiki's vocals, Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But my opinion is she's one of the greatest singers of this generation and I only watch band-maid reactions, and that's my cheese.
I enjoy her vocals I don't enjoy the vocal stylings of baby metal :)

By the way, you picked the rare band maid song that doesn't have uplifting lyrics. Saiki wrote the lyrics to this one ( most of the time it's Miku), about a friend whose husband cheated on her during covid. Which tells you what Saiki thinks of that husband.

Yeah Babymetal, it's amazing how so much talent can just not work for me. The band sounds like studio musicians and the vocals and dancing aren't my thing. To each their own though.
