  • Installing new hood pins in the 1969 Mustang this weekend. The Mustang originally had them but they were not installed properly during the restoration. The hood pins and lanyards were installed in 1969 Mustang Mach 1 and Mustang Boss 302 but NOT the Mustang Boss 429 of the year.
Follow along as I DIY install them on the car.

I'm the original owner of a 69 Mach1 that by coincidence is the same color as yours. I was 19 when I bought it new. The reason there were no screws in the kit for the lanyards to attach to the core support is because the loop in the lanyard was simply pushed down over the pin, not screwed to the core support. Also, the lanyards were not routed through the grill, they just lay on top of it. The only difference I see in the kit and the original parts is that the swaging sleeves used to make the loops in the lanyards are much larger than on the originals. Its too bad you can't buy just the lanyards from Ford anymore, but thanks for that part number, it appears to be the closest reproduction available now. I can't tell you how many times I've replaced those over the years because the protective plastic covering on the lanyards cracks and falls off as it ages.

Thanks that's a lot of good insights. I'm going to run my lanyards like you suggested and not through the grille. Appreciate all the information!

Without a doubt the 69 fastback is the Very best looking car ever made in my book

Cool, I've toyed with the idea of doing hood pins, they look fairly easy to install. :)

Yea they aren’t that bad. Just measure three times and only drill once!

Good job sir. This was perfect timing. Something I've been thinking about adding to my car since I take it to the drag strip. Like you said, you don't want the hood flying up into your windshield at 100+. I'm just a nervous Nelly filling holes into my hood. lol

Thanks Bar! It’s a mod that’ll definitely give you peace of mind. I’m with you. Measure three times drill once lol

I totally agree. It really makes the car with the hood pins.

Just do a better job than I originally did with the pins. I’d line up the hoods and fenders before you drill.
