Beautiful horse and you explained each step very clearly. It was very helpful thank you. Please keep your videos coming.
This video and your info are really helpful for me as a new rider. It’s definitely not boring!
I love the basics that you attend to. Nothing boring here. Nice to see your routine and hear how you change it up for the horse’s individual need.
I like the way you ride with long reins. My coach forces me to ride with short rains even he sees my horse doesnt wanna go over his back when they are short, then with long reins he is doing so well, over his back, comfortable, happy. I think I am going to change a coach.
Thank you so much for showing just how important the warm up phase is - and that you need to take your time. I thought my trainer and I are the only ones. Far too many ride a couple of rounds in walk then start hammering away. :( My warm up looks almost exactly like yours - flexing and bending already in the walk, rising trot and early light canter, depending on how he feels (he tends to be a bit cold-backed in winter and I learned it helps him warm and loosen up better).
What's hilarious is that what you show as "warm up" too many people I've seen already consider as "working phase". :-D
Thank you, Amelia, for this very helpful video on warming up your horse! I’m trying to create a warm up routine for the horse I am riding - who is kind of lazy but actually really athletic when he puts his mind to it - and our big issue together is getting symmetry in our bending and steady rhythm in our trot. So many components of your warm up are perfect for us!
I'm so glad you liked it!! Please consider subscribing as that helps me out a lot
Fabulous stuff! very clear verbal and visual explanations. Would prefer the other rider not wandering about during your warmup, but that's only a tiny distraction from your lovely work.
Hey Julia, Thanks for the feedback! I'll be sure to take note :)
Thank you! Super helpful and what a beauty he is.
Very important work, and very useful for any horse.
Thanks Amelia. 🎩 👑 🎩
Thanks for the great content. Your direction is so helpful and I use your tips frequently in my riding.😊

This is awesome thank you I was stuck trying to explain this vital aid.
It's necessary for me to watch this video sometimes.
I'm thinking how to make horses relax everyday.
Thank-you it's so nice video!
(I'm afraid I can't write English well)
So helpful, on many levels
Love this 💚
cant wait for part 2 & 3 !!!!!!
great video! I work several off the track tbs n needless to say they r crooked
Very nice warm up.
Have a question for you.
What is the recommended time to work a horse out and how many times per week?
Thanks
Ramiro Rosiles it depends on your horse. I work my horse 5 days a week and sometimes 6. He’s training level and coming into first. When he was in intro we only worked him 4 or 5 days a week. It really depends on your schedule and your horses fitness level. Time is around 30 to 45 minutes at max including grooming and tacking. Hope this was helpful and sorry I’m kinda late
Amelia, what brand of saddle is that? It looks so supportive.
It's a N2 saddle. They are the best ;)
Thanks! Going to check them out!
Amelia I love your simple unadorned teaching style; but am a little bit of an oldster; and am finding myself surprised and uncomfortable with your warm up being with your horse so "deep" he is BTV all the time..and shortened in the throat area....only towards the end is he starting to get his head close to Verticle and though he is long and low in the end and opening his throatlatch; he's still nose tipped in...wondering if this really is the new "normal"..??
Hi Linda! Good question. Really it depends on the horse and on what you are trying to achieve. For me the warm up is a stretching phase and I am working on stretching and engaging the back and neck muscles. With this horse, taking him a bit lower and deeper helps him to loosen up correctly in his back and neck so that when I bring him into a show frame he is not stiff. It's important that you can move and change the horses Fram and not just ride all the time with the poll the highest point and the nose in front of the vertical.
Should I be walking for 10 minutes every time I ride?
How do I teach my gelding to get a nice low frame like that?
Hi Amelia. I would I get to know that my horse is totally warmed up before I trot him
It depends on if he has been in the stable or out in the field. There's not a set time, you have to listen to the horse and feel when he is loosened up and listening to you and starting to step under himself.
@@AmeliaNewcombDressage thank you. well, in general, do horses break into trot from walk upon clucking even if they arent warmed up well?
How much total time each walk, trot, lope during warm up?
v1rag0wv it depends on your horse. For my horse who is in 5 to 6 days of work per week is 5 to 10 minutes of walk,25 to 30 minutes of trot, and 5 to 10 minutes of canter. My horse is only beginning first level so the times will vary.
Just curious what determines if you warm them up like this or low and deep?
In general, horses that have a high set neck or want to be high in the frame I ride deeper to warm up.
Where in California You are
Southern California!
Shouldn’t the poll be the highest point of the horse?
good riding but boring
My Gray Pony good riding is always boring 😃😂
what is fun then?
Good riding is never boring. It is the confidence you build with this type of steady work that wins competitions later.
