    Impressive patience! It is a great example for trading cost with time. I would rather replace those breadboard circuits with custom made PCBs, it would greatly reduce the tedious wiring need/time at the cost of the PCBs and the less tedious PCB CAD design.

    Great project, I might try to replicate.
    However, few toughts: I would try to fit 4/8 channels on one board (maybe one/two boards for each color?) and make a backplane to fit the boards (with the node controller and power lines) . Do not fear to play with the placement of components and maybe try to use the components leads (resistors mainly) to save some wired connections. That way leave less room to errors. Nice layout of the boards, but in my opinion, could fit more circuits on one board.

  • @chrislewis2262
    @chrislewis2262 Před 4 lety +5

    The cube was always a great project but dude you could have saved more time and headache if you did each colour on 1 circuit board each, preferably "new" ones not used. All 8 channels would fit nicely on 1 board. So instead of having 7/8 boards you would have like 4. It would of saved you time and troubleshooting. Just watching the soldering of them gave me a stroke and I'm a electronics major. Overall good job.

    Can you please clarify if ALL shift registers (including the one on the ANODE board) feed their signal from Pin-9 to the following shift register? The reason I ask is that the schematic does NOT show the shift register on the ANODE board as being connected to the first BLUE cathode board. Also, the Arduino data pin shown on the schematic is NOT being bussed down to the first BLUE board so how does data get to the first BLUE board???

    • @gordonhope9219

      I am trying to get an answer to this exact question myself. if I look at the schematic, it appears as if the ANODE board has its own dedicated shift register, however the schematic is not bringing down the Arduino data pin as a bussed signal down to the first Blue board. I just completed the ANODE board but =pin-9 on its shift register is open and not being used.

    I actually have no idea what I'm seeing. I recycle and have torn a lot of things apart for the copper. Would this be considered 'primitive' considering what's being done with chips, shelacque, wafering, etc.? Could we be looking at development of 3-D television? Throw some spun fiberglass, cotton candy, crystals in there and use auras to create ghosts? I'm guessing that the programming is another matter entirely in how to get these crossovers to function for desired effects (Microsoft)? Reminds me of that movie about Steve Jobs and they spun a few moments of him swimming through numbers & concepts . . . and then Wozniak accusing him of not even being on board. Interesting stuff. Thanks.

      It's because of the way the neutrals work. The colors are each vertical, with the neutrals horizontal. Only one level at a time is activated by the neutrals, so while the whole cube has current for a single layer at a time, only one layer is active. It flickers a little because it flips between layers in a sequence.
